Invincible Soul Emperor

Chapter 554: Chapter 554 Cultivating Formations

If the Divine Wood Art were to be completely restored, it would indeed become a Divine Level Cultivation Technique. So, why would I switch to another one now? Even if Cheng Lu’s Cultivation Technique is powerful, it couldn’t possibly be Divine Level, could it? And even if it were, the Divine Wood Art is undoubtedly the most suitable for me.

It was precisely for these reasons that Ye Qingchen was not very enthusiastic about this training session. But when he thought of Elder Yang and his First Senior Brother’s earnest expectations, he didn’t know how he would refuse Cheng Lu’s kindness.

However, what Ye Qingchen didn’t expect was that after entering the secret chamber, Cheng Lu didn’t mention Cultivation Techniques at all. Instead, he asked, ”Little Junior Brother, do you know anything about the path of formations? What I mean is, have you ever worked with them before?”

Ye Qingchen looked at Cheng Lu in surprise, wondering why he would suddenly ask this, but he still answered truthfully, ”To be honest with you, Third Senior Brother, I am currently a first-rank Array Master.”

In truth, Ye Qingchen’s insight and knowledge had long surpassed that of a first-rank Array Master. Recently, with the aid of the Ten Thousand Laws Formation Flag, he had somewhat neglected his formation studies. Otherwise, with Qin Yue’s Immortal Array Canon and his own talent, he would have broken through the rank of a first-rank Array Master long ago.

Ye Qingchen had thought revealing his formation rank would disappoint his senior brother, but to his surprise, Cheng Lu became rather excited. ”Master is truly wise. He predicted everything! Little Junior Brother, you are indeed very suitable for my Cultivation Technique. However, your current attainment in the path of formations is still a bit low. Let’s start by improving your formation rank.”

When Ye Qingchen heard him mention the Cultivation Technique, he couldn’t help but finally speak up. ”Um, Third Senior Brother... actually, I’m quite satisfied with the Cultivation Technique I’m currently practicing. I don’t want to set it aside to learn another. I hope you can understand.”

Ye Qingchen looked at Cheng Lu with some guilt, as his Third Senior Brother’s expression had stiffened upon hearing his words.

But soon, Cheng Lu burst into laughter. Pointing at Ye Qingchen, he roared, ”Oh, Little Junior Brother, it’s not your fault! It’s mine for not explaining clearly. The Cultivation Technique I mentioned isn’t a Cultivation Method in the traditional sense. Little Junior Brother, look!”

As Cheng Lu finished speaking, his body began to flicker with various lights, and his aura surged violently.

”A sixth-rank formation... the Imprisoning Dragon Array?” Ye Qingchen stared in amazement. At that moment, Cheng Lu was using his body as the formation core, deploying the sixth-rank Killing Formation with his own meridians.

Cheng Lu withdrew the formation from his body and smiled. ”Now do you understand, Little Junior Brother? My Cultivation Technique uses the body as the formation and the meridians as the medium. You arrange various formations within yourself to enhance your offensive and defensive attributes. Since you can recognize a sixth-rank formation, you must have a respectable knowledge of them. In that case, you should understand how powerfully formations can augment nature’s spiritual energy, right?”

Ye Qingchen was thoroughly stunned. He had never imagined that Cheng Lu’s Cultivation Technique involved using the body as a formation. Just as Cheng Lu said, the amplification effect formations had on spiritual energy was absolutely terrifying, which was why Array Masters held such an esteemed status.

After the initial shock, what Ye Qingchen felt most was excitement.

I can just imagine it... one day, I’ll be able to set up a supreme Immortal Array inside my own body. How terrifyingly powerful would I be then?

However, he still had some doubts. Using meridians to set up formations sounds incredibly dangerous. Besides that, if the positions of my meridians are changed to form arrays, won’t it affect me when I circulate the Divine Wood Art or use Martial Techniques?

Cheng Lu seemed to have read his mind. ”There’s no need to worry, Little Junior Brother. This is the unique aspect of my Cultivation Technique. The meridians used for arranging the formations are newly generated after you begin practicing it, and they don’t interfere with your original ones at all.”

Newly generated meridians?

Ye Qingchen was stunned once again. As a sixth-rank Pill King, this was the first time he had ever heard of a method to generate new meridians.

However, Cheng Lu clearly didn’t want to waste time on the topic; after all, everything would become clear once Ye Qingchen started cultivating. So, he cut in, saying, ”Little Junior Brother, let’s not discuss this for now. For the next half-month, we’ll practice formations during the day and the Cultivation Technique at night. I hope you can at least grasp the basics in that time. It will be a great help to you in the Four Academies’ joint test.”

Ye Qingchen nodded, filled with excitement for what he was about to learn.

Cheng Lu took several array flags from his storage ring, handed them to Ye Qingchen, and said, ”You mentioned you’re a first-rank Array Master. Go ahead and set up a formation of your choice. I need to assess your current level to create a training plan for you.”

Ye Qingchen took the flags and, after a moment’s thought, began to set them up. He decided on the Return to Origin Array. This was one of the most difficult formations for a first-rank Array Master to deploy. Ye Qingchen had barely managed to set it up back when he first broke through. After continuous practice, he could now deploy it with a one hundred percent success rate.

Cheng Lu nodded in satisfaction as he watched Ye Qingchen create the Return to Origin Array. Not only was the formation exquisitely arranged, but Ye Qingchen had also made some modifications that increased its power by more than thirty percent.

It seems my Little Junior Brother has a real talent for formations.

Cheng Lu then pointed out a few minor flaws in Ye Qingchen’s deployment and offered suggestions for improvement. With the Immortal Array Canon from Qin Yue, Ye Qingchen possessed vast theoretical knowledge. But without a mentor, he had been forced to learn by trial and error, which slowed his progress considerably.

Now, under Cheng Lu’s guidance, Ye Qingchen’s mastery of formations advanced by leaps and bounds.

Barely an hour had passed before Ye Qingchen successfully set up a second-rank formation, reaching the realm of a second-rank Array Master. Cheng Lu was surprised by the speed of his breakthrough but found it acceptable. After all, the solid foundation Ye Qingchen had shown meant he’d likely been stuck at the peak of the first rank for a long time. It made sense that a little guidance would lead to a breakthrough born from accumulated effort.

Two hours later, however, Cheng Lu started to lose his composure. By this point, Ye Qingchen was skillfully deploying various second-rank formations with an extremely high success rate.

Another two hours after that, Ye Qingchen successfully deployed a third-rank formation, reaching the realm of a third-rank Array Master!

Advancing from a first-rank Array Master to a third-rank Array Master in less than six hours... Is he even human? Sheer shock was written all over Cheng Lu’s handsome face.
