Invincible Soul Emperor

Chapter 508: Chapter 508: The Saint Heir Escaped

This lesser demon was so fast that Ye Qingchen couldn’t dodge in time!

”Get lost! Don’t you dare harm the Young Master!”

In the nick of time, Xiao Xiao lunged forward. The Vermilion Bird Flame blazed across her Vajra Silk as she met the demon’s attack!

BANG!

The two collided. Using the force of the impact, Xiao Xiao propelled herself and Ye Qingchen backward. At the same time, the lesser demon was also thrown back several steps, clutching its scorched claws and howling in pain.

Seeing this, Ye Qingchen’s eyes lit up. ”The Demon Clan fears fire!”

He immediately summoned the Fen Tian Earth Fire, sending a sea of flames surging toward the lesser demon. The creature emitted a thick black mist to shield itself. Although it blocked the fiery assault, it was clearly wary and had lost its earlier arrogance.

Simultaneously, Xiao Xiao attacked with her Vermilion Bird Flame. Working together, they forced the lesser demon into a continuous retreat.

However, the other humans were being hunted by two other lesser demons, screaming in terror as many died on the spot.

”Young Master, the two of us can’t fight so many demons alone!” Xiao Xiao proposed. ”Go help the others! Tell them about the demons’ weakness so we can unite and fight them together!”

”Can you handle it alone?” Ye Qingchen asked, worried.

”With my flames, suppressing it for a short time won’t be a problem!” Xiao Xiao declared confidently.

”Alright! Be careful, then!”

Controlling the Fen Tian Earth Fire, Ye Qingchen dashed toward another lesser demon, saving a human who was moments from being killed. He didn’t notice that the person he had just rescued was Liu Feng, the very man who had mocked him before.

Seeing Ye Qingchen risk his own life to save him, a complex mix of emotions churned within Liu Feng, leaving him stunned.

”Fall back, quickly!” Ye Qingchen roared. ”Tell everyone the Demon Clan fears fire! We can’t let them pick us off one by one while we’re scattered! Concentrate our forces and use flames against them!”

Hearing Ye Qingchen’s furious shout, Liu Feng snapped out of his daze and hurriedly retreated.

When the lesser demon saw its target had been rescued, its eyes showed no emotion. It simply switched its target to Ye Qingchen. To a lesser demon, all humans were enemies. It was their duty to kill any human within their sight, and the identity of their prey was irrelevant. Since the last one had escaped, it would just kill this ignorant fool who had appeared in its place. After that, it would move on to other humans.

Ye Qingchen also gleaned some clues from the demon’s eyes. Though these lesser demons are undeniably strong, their intelligence is far from fully evolved. While they’re smarter than wild beasts and Spirit Beasts, their intelligence is like that of an infant’s compared to an adult human’s.

Ye Qingchen engaged the lesser demon with the Fen Tian Earth Fire. Although the flames could suppress his opponent, each of the demon’s counterattacks sent his blood surging violently. But Ye Qingchen knew his purpose: to stall this lesser demon and buy time for Liu Feng to rally more humans. It might be a drop in the bucket against the entire Demon Clan, but it was the greatest contribution he could make right now.

He used his Fire Spirit Charm Shadow to constantly evade the demon’s attacks, creating distance and avoiding direct confrontations. Whenever the lesser demon grew impatient and tried to attack other humans, Ye Qingchen would dart back in and launch another fiery assault.

Though he was only holding back a single demon while others continued to slaughter the humans, Ye Qingchen became a hero in the eyes of the other warriors. Ever since entering the Sect’s newcomer competition, all he had received was ridicule. But now, this same mocked contestant was saving the Human Race without a second thought. This stood in stark contrast to those who had derided him only to flee with their tails between their legs, making him seem immeasurably stronger.

At that moment, Ye Qingchen couldn’t worry about such things. He focused on using his speed advantage to tie down the lesser demon, waiting for more powerful human experts to arrive.

Meanwhile, the Saint Heir of the Wuji Immortal Palace, who had been facing off against the demon leader, finally lost his composure as he watched the humans being slaughtered. This time, he took no chances, drawing a low-grade artifact and attacking the leading demon.

But to everyone’s shock, even with an artifact and a Martial Technique, his attacks were easily deflected.

Is this really the Saint Heir of the Wuji Immortal Palace, the one who killed five lesser demons with a single, casual strike?

Only the Saint Heir, now personally fighting the demon, truly understood its power. This demon was on a completely different level than the others.

Still, under the watchful eyes of the crowd, the Saint Heir couldn’t show weakness and continued to press his attack. Yet no matter what he tried, his opponent effortlessly neutralized every move. It was a game of cat and mouse, where the Saint Heir was the desperate mouse and the demon was the triumphant cat.

This reversal of fortune was an unprecedented humiliation. Just moments ago, he had established an image of invincibility before the human cultivators. How could he possibly accept such a humiliating reversal?

The Saint Heir knew he was no match for this demon. Though he hadn’t used his full strength, from his opponent’s indifferent demeanor, it was clear the demon had also been holding back. He realized his defeat was entirely dependent on the demon’s mood. Rather than suffer a humiliating defeat here, it would be better to retreat and preserve a shred of dignity. He resolved to withdraw, but decided to first unleash one full-power attack to salvage some of his pride.

His aura began to expand explosively, the sheer force of his presence causing the ground around him to crack and split. The demon, however, merely watched him with nonchalance, as if he was of no concern. The demon had initially been cautious because it had smelled the scent of demon blood on the Saint Heir, leading it to conclude that he had killed the five lesser demons sent as the vanguard. That was why it hadn’t rushed to attack. But after trading blows, it found this human to be laughably weak and began toying with him. As the Saint Heir prepared to unleash his full power, in the demon’s eyes, it was nothing more than a clown’s pathetic solo performance.

The Saint Heir’s aura surged to its peak. The low-grade artifact in his hand shot forward, shaking the very earth as nature’s spiritual energy converged upon it. Yet, faced with such a devastating strike, the demon simply met the artifact with a two-handed push.

BOOM!

A towering mushroom cloud erupted into the sky. The Saint Heir didn’t dare to look back and see what damage his attack had caused. He simply turned and fled.

His retreat sent a wave of shock through the human ranks. Their savior, the seemingly invincible Saint Heir... had fled? He had abandoned them all and run away!

But the Saint Heir couldn’t worry about that now. Once my cultivation is complete, I will return and reclaim my honor!

”Saint Heir, it’s bad! That powerful lesser demon is going after Junior Sister Xiao Xiao!” a disciple from the Wuji Immortal Palace suddenly shouted.

Just as Xiao Xiao attacked a lesser demon with her flames, the strongest of them—the one the Saint Heir had just fought—charged straight for her! Pinned by two demons at once, Xiao Xiao was forced into a desperate retreat, besieged by danger at every turn despite her Vermilion Bird Holy Soul Flame.

The Saint Heir glanced toward Xiao Xiao, his eyelids twitching violently. I can’t even defeat that powerful lesser demon on its own, let alone with another one helping it! If I go back now, I’ll be killed for sure!

Fearing he’d be entangled by the demon if he returned, the Saint Heir didn’t hesitate for a second and swiftly fled into the distance.

”The Saint Heir... he actually abandoned Junior Sister Xiao Xiao!”

The disciples of the Wuji Immortal Palace stared in astonishment.

Is this the same Saint Heir who always swore he would protect her for the rest of his life?
