Chapter 189: Chapter 189: Can We Only Be Friends?

Not wanting to continue the conversation, Ye Qingchen changed the subject and asked Qin Yue, ”How has Elder Qin been recovering these past few days?”

Qin Yue nodded and replied, ”Grandfather has taken some more Spirit Pills over the last two days, and his spirits have recovered considerably. He also said you’re welcome to visit anytime.”

Ye Qingchen smiled. Now that the Breakthrough Pill had been successfully refined and he had no other pressing matters, he could indeed remove the Fire Poison from Qin Zhantian once more.

With this in mind, Ye Qingchen said to Qin Yue, ”Since Elder Qin has mostly recovered, it’s time for the second treatment to remove the Fire Poison.”

Hearing this, Qin Yue joyfully thanked him and led him toward Qin Zhantian’s residence. Since Ye Qingchen’s last visit, a considerable amount of Fire Poison had been purged from Qin Zhantian’s body. Coupled with some restorative Spirit Pills, he was now able to get out of bed and walk around. For a man who had been bedridden for years, this was undoubtedly a joyous occasion.

Seeing Ye Qingchen arrive, Qin Zhantian hurriedly stood and clasped his hands in greeting. ”Young friend Ye, I was injured last time and couldn’t thank you in person. I hope you’ll forgive me.”

Ye Qingchen shook his head with a smile. ”You’re too polite, Elder Qin. Qin Yue and I are good friends, and she has saved my life several times. This is the least I should do.”

Seeing her grandfather’s complexion had improved, Qin Yue was even happier. She said to Qin Zhantian, ”Grandfather, Ye Qingchen is here to perform the second treatment for your Fire Poison. Your health will keep improving, and it won’t be long before you’re fully recovered.”

Qin Zhantian’s mood brightened even more. He affectionately patted Qin Yue’s head and said, ”You sweet girl, you always know just what to say.”

Ye Qingchen gave Qin Yue a knowing look before speaking. ”Elder Qin, let me take your pulse first.”

Qin Zhantian nodded, sat down, and placed his hand on the table. Ye Qingchen sat beside him and placed his fingers on Qin Zhantian’s wrist.

Compared to the faint, thready pulse from last time, Qin Zhantian felt like a completely different person. Although still somewhat weak, his pulse was now strong and steady, and his physical condition had recovered by at least fifty percent.

Ye Qingchen nodded. The Qin Family certainly has vast resources. Qin Zhantian’s rapid recovery is naturally tied to his own formidable strength, but without so many Spirit Pills to nourish his body, this effect would have been impossible.

Qin Yue watched quietly as Ye Qingchen took her grandfather’s pulse, making it hard to see the strong, independent woman she usually was. When she saw Ye Qingchen nod, she understood immediately. She hurried over to close the door and stood guard outside to prevent anyone from disturbing them.

”Elder Qin, shall we begin?” Ye Qingchen asked with a smile as he stood up.

Qin Zhantian nodded and sat cross-legged on the bed, letting Ye Qingchen proceed.

Having done this once before, Ye Qingchen found the process of removing the Fire Poison familiar and smooth. He continuously drew the poison out from Qin Zhantian’s body and collected it.

About an hour later, Ye Qingchen stopped. By this time, the majority of the Fire Poison in Qin Zhantian’s body had been removed, and his life was no longer in danger. Feeling the change within himself, Qin Zhantian grew even more excited. He stood up and gave Ye Qingchen a deep bow. ”Thank you, young friend Ye!”

Ye Qingchen quickly returned the gesture but said nothing, his face slightly pale. Having already spent two days refining Spirit Pills, he was now visibly drained after expelling the Fire Poison from Qin Zhantian.

Seeing they were finished, Qin Yue hurried over. Noticing Ye Qingchen’s pale complexion, she quickly helped him to a seat.

After briefly circulating his energy to recover, Ye Qingchen regained some of his color and said to Qin Zhantian, ”Elder Qin, most of the Fire Poison has been removed from your body. However, the rest has seeped into your meridians and internal organs. To remove it all, I estimate we’ll need another three or four treatments!”

Qin Zhantian nodded repeatedly. He knew his own condition better than anyone and was already incredibly fortunate to have the chance of a full recovery. Having waited for years, another day or two was nothing. He said to Ye Qingchen, ”Young friend Ye, I will never forget the kindness you have shown me by removing this Fire Poison.”

Qin Yue, however, teased him with a playful smile. ”Grandfather, Ye Qingchen has already treated you twice, and you still haven’t offered him a reward. All you’ve done is say thank you. You’re being too stingy.”

Her words made Qin Zhantian burst into laughter. He tapped her on the head and chided, ”You little rascal, must you call out your own grandfather like that?”

Qin Yue playfully stuck out her tongue. ”But it’s true, Grandpa is being stingy.”

Qin Zhantian smiled and shook his head, his tone turning mysterious. ”I, Qin Zhantian, am no ungrateful man. Rest assured, young friend Ye, once I have fully recovered, I will have a big surprise for you!”

Curious, Qin Yue asked, ”Grandpa, what kind of surprise? Why be so mysterious?”

Qin Zhantian just smiled and shook his head, not answering her question. Qin Yue pouted but didn’t press the matter.

However, she knew that given her grandfather’s status and foresight, if he called something a surprise, it had to be extraordinary!

Ye Qingchen was helping Qin Zhantian simply to repay Qin Yue. Besides, the extracted Fire Poison was very useful to him, so he didn’t pay much mind to the surprise Qin Zhantian had mentioned.

By now, Ye Qingchen had mostly recovered. He stood up and said, ”Elder Qin, you should continue to focus on your recovery for now. Please refrain from circulating your internal energy. I will visit again in a few days.”

Qin Zhantian nodded with a smile and said to his granddaughter, ”Yue’er, please see young friend Ye out for me.”

Qin Yue nodded and escorted Ye Qingchen away. She walked him all the way to the entrance of the Rising Sun Pavilion before speaking, a slight hesitation in her voice. ”Ye Qingchen, I didn’t expect you to have changed so much since we last met. And you’ve helped me so much again...”

As she spoke, a blush crept onto her cheeks. She wanted to thank him properly but was afraid of sounding insincere, so the words caught in her throat.

Ye Qingchen understood her feelings and responded with a smile. ”We’re friends, aren’t we? Friends who have been through thick and thin together. There’s no need for such formalities. I’ll be back in a few days.”

With that, Ye Qingchen took his leave. Qin Yue watched his retreating figure, lost in a daze, repeating his words to herself in a murmur, ”Can we... only be friends?”
