I Return From Hell

Chapter 28: Chapter 26: The Snipe and the Clam

”BANG.”

A gunshot rang out.

Yisuti shuddered, a bloody hole appearing on her forehead. The secondary damage from the bullet’s high-speed rotation contorted her face in pain, and she couldn’t help but take a step back.

Her legs gave out, and she collapsed to the ground.

”It’s working!”

Seeing this, Brother Li breathed a sigh of relief.

”AHH!”

Ye Zilan and Number 9 screamed, covering their ears. They were completely terrified.

First monsters, now a gun.

The fact that they hadn’t fainted already was a testament to their strong nerves.

”A gun!”

Xia Yu, who had just arrived nearby, narrowed her eyes. The sight of Yisuti collapsed on the ground made her realize one thing: ’The plan has changed!’

At this current stage,

the speed of a bullet was absolutely unbeatable.

The power of a bullet was absolutely terrifying.

Aside from non-corporeal Spiritual Life forms like the Ghost Clan, what living creature wasn’t afraid of a gun before they became powerful enough?

”That has to be Brother Li.”

Xie Shaokun was also startled. He quickly asked, ”Yu, what do we do now?”

”Fall back.”

Without hesitation, Xia Yu turned and left, concealing herself in the shadows.

’Let them tear each other apart first.’

’Then, I’ll assess the situation and make my move. I have to be the third party, the fisherman who reaps the rewards.’

”Let’s go.”

Brother Li knew he had a limited number of bullets. Seeing the dying Yisuti, he didn’t waste another shot. Instead, he nudged Number 9 and Ye Zilan with his foot and said, ”To the monitoring room.”

He was taking these two women with him because he needed meat shields.

At a critical moment, he would need human flesh to slow the monsters down.

Of course, Number 9 and Ye Zilan had no idea what Brother Li was thinking. Already terrified of dying, they were just relieved he was taking them along. They didn’t think twice and quickly followed.

Brother Li kept his gun raised, aimed at Yisuti’s head, as he slowly backed out of the interrogation room.

”ROAR.”

Just then, a roar echoed as a Mutant lunged forward to attack.

The attention of all three was drawn to it.

The muzzle of his gun swiveled toward the Mutant.

Yisuti’s eyes snapped open. Her chest split apart again, and her long, crimson tongue shot out.

The highly vigilant Brother Li noticed this immediately, his eyes practically popping out of his skull in shock. He instantly yanked Ye Zilan in front of him.

”THUNK.”

Ye Zilan, who weighed just over 50 kg, was instantly skewered.

The crimson tongue continued on, shooting toward Brother Li.

”BANG!”

Brother Li pulled the trigger, hitting the crimson tongue dead-on.

Flesh tore and blood splattered.

”AHH!”

Yisuti let out a piercing shriek as she rapidly retracted her crimson tongue. The barbs on its surface dug into Ye Zilan’s internal organs, and the immense force dragged Ye Zilan’s body in front of her.

Yisuti gripped Ye Zilan’s slender neck, holding her up as a shield, terrified of being hit by Brother Li’s bullets.

”ROAR.”

”BANG.”

During the chaos, Brother Li also managed to shoot the onrushing Mutant in the head.

The Mutant died.

The next moment, the two sides were once again at a standoff.

”Save... save me...”

Blood gurgled endlessly from Ye Zilan’s mouth, her words slurred and indistinct.

She was breaking down inside.

’I just came for a job interview, and now I’m going to die.’

’My best years are still ahead of me, I haven’t had a chance to build my future, and my parents are at home waiting for me... I don’t want to die.’

”Let’s move.”

A ruthless glint flashed in Brother Li’s eyes as he quickly left with Number 9.

”Save...”

Ye Zilan’s face was a mask of pain and pleading, but it was no use.

No one cared if she lived or died.

Yisuti’s eyes peeked out, her face filled with venomous hatred as she stared at Brother Li’s retreating figure.

The prey had almost killed the Hunter.

For a Hunter, this was a great humiliation!

”ROAR.”

”ROAR.”

...

Just then, one after another, corpses began to rise to their feet, following the recent commotion to the second basement level.

”Perfect.”

Yisuti’s expression brightened. She had an idea.

「Meanwhile.」

”The door’s open.”

Brother Li’s eyes lit up when he saw the monitoring room door was open, but he didn’t let his guard down. He ordered, ”Number 9, you go in and check.”

”O... okay.”

Number 9 didn’t dare to refuse. She cautiously entered and then cried out in surprise, ”Number 7! What are you doing here? This is great!”

’Number 7?’

Brother Li frowned and peeked inside. Sure enough, he saw the blood-soaked Number 7, head down, huddled in a corner.

’Not a monster.’

He breathed a sigh of relief, quickly stepping inside and shutting the door, preparing to lock it.

But he found that the door wouldn’t lock at all.

”Number 7, why won’t this door lock?”

Brother Li’s expression changed.

’God knows how many more monsters are out there. That gunshot was so loud, it must have attracted all of them. If we can’t block the door...’

’We’re dead for sure.’

Number 7 said nothing.

From under the nearby desk came a faint chewing sound.

”Are you fucking mute?”

Brother Li was extremely agitated. He didn’t notice Number 7’s odd behavior or the strange sound in the room; his eyes were glued to the door.

He was terrified the monsters would charge in.

WHOOSH.

A slender figure came flying through the air.

Brother Li instinctively went to shoot, but he stopped when he saw it was Ye Zilan. He was incredibly relieved. ’Thank god I reacted in time. If I’d fired, the noise would’ve definitely given away our position.’

”THUD.”

Ye Zilan crashed to the floor, letting out a pained cry. Because her vitality was fading fast, the sound wasn’t loud.

”That monster didn’t kill you?”

Brother Li asked, pointing his gun at her warily.

Ye Zilan reached for Brother Li, crying out with difficulty, ”Save me... I’m begging you...”

Brother Li backed away, but then his eyes fell on the blood gushing from Ye Zilan’s wound. His pupils dilated, and he was about to say something when—

”ROAR.”

A Mutant appeared at the end of the hallway.

Then a second appeared.

A third. 𝑓𝑟ℯℴ𝓂

...

”!!!”

Brother Li’s face paled, and he slammed the door shut.

But when he remembered the door couldn’t be locked, his expression changed again.

”No.”

Ye Zilan was in despair.

The Mutants pounced on her, tearing viciously at her flesh.

In an instant, she was covered.

The intense pain and the rapid loss of her vitality blurred her vision. Her consciousness slipped into an abyss, until she was finally plunged into endless darkness.

For some reason, just before she died, she thought of the other girl who had come for the interview with her. ’I wonder if she’s still alive?’

After finishing their meal, the Mutants began to ram the door.

”Get over here and brace it!”

Brother Li roared from inside the room.

Number 9 hurried over.

But Number 7 still didn’t move.

”If you don’t fucking get over here, I’ll shoot you,”

Brother Li threatened.

But Number 7 remained motionless.

”CRASH.”

The next moment, the door was smashed open.

”AHH!”

Number 9 went flying.

Brother Li managed to dodge in time and began firing wildly. In his panic, his aim was off.

One.

Two.

...

When only one Mutant was left, his pistol ran out of bullets.

”Help me!”

Brother Li screamed in despair.

The Mutant lunged, its immense bite force instantly tearing a huge chunk of flesh from Brother Li’s left forearm, which he had thrown up to defend himself. White bone was exposed.

”AHH!”

Brother Li finally experienced the terror of death.

Just as the Mutant was about to bite again, its body shuddered violently and it collapsed on top of Brother Li, motionless.

There was a massive, bloody hole in the back of its head.

”Haaa...”

Brother Li had just let out a breath of relief.

Yisuti retracted her crimson tongue and appeared in the doorway, a broad smile on her face.

Brother Li’s face was a mask of pure despair.
