I'm Trapped in the Block

Chapter 364: Chapter 361: The Real Paradise Island

Before long, a female doctor in a white coat arrived at the police booth.

On Paradise Island, where everyone wore white, the doctor’s attire actually seemed perfectly normal.

She pulled Li Luo right up and began to examine her injuries.

Soon, she came to a conclusion.

”Your eyes need to rest. You were likely exposed to a strong light.”

”Do you feel eye fatigue now? Like the muscles around your eyes are spasming, your eyeballs are swollen, and they’re a bit dry?”

Li Luo nodded.

The doctor took a bottle of medicine from her medical kit and told Li Luo to apply it whenever she felt discomfort.

Then, she looked at Jin Lou.

”You, come over too. Let me check you.”

Jin Lou didn’t hesitate and walked right over.

”A robot needs a check-up too?” Li Luo asked, confused.

”Of course. Robots can get injured too,” the doctor replied very seriously, not looking like she was joking.

The doctor took a cable directly from her medical kit and connected it to Jin Lou.

”Grant me access to your permissions.”

”Understood.” Jin Lou was very cooperative.

The doctor plugged the cable into her own electronic screen and began rapidly operating it.

All sorts of jumbled data scrolled across the electronic screen, and the doctor’s brow furrowed.

”You have two primary control programs?”

”Yes.”

”You’re on the backup program right now, correct? Do you need me to restore your main one?”

”Not for now. I still have things to take care of.”

The doctor nodded. ”Alright, then I’ll just clear the cached data in your memory files, is that okay? Is this data still useful?”

”It’s useless. You can clear it,” Jin Lou confirmed with a nod. That was all memory data Jin Lou had previously read on Hell Island.

”Okay.” The doctor operated the screen for a while longer before her brow slowly unfurrowed.

She then carefully inspected every part of Jin Lou’s body before putting her electronic screen away.

”Everything looks fine. You’ll probably need a new paint job, though. Black doesn’t really suit this island.”

After she finished, she looked at Si Yang.

”Paradise Island doesn’t have the technology to examine other species. If you need a check-up, you’ll have to go to a larger island base. Do you need me to contact one for you?”

”No, thank you,” Si Yang politely declined the doctor’s help.

After reminding Li Luo to come back for regular check-ups, the doctor left in a hurry.

”She can actually repair robots,” Li Luo couldn’t help but exclaim as she watched the doctor’s retreating figure.

”Identity is just a concept bestowed by Paradise Island. How one interprets it is up to the individual,” Si Yang explained.

”So, these identity divisions aren’t that strict, then. Even if you cross the line, there’s no punishment. Why do the people on the island still follow the rule so closely?”

”For no particular reason. It’s because everyone is bowing,” Jin Lou said flatly.

”Bowing?” Li Luo didn’t understand at first.

”Yes. Didn’t Lin Nian tell you a story like that? The monitoring station where everyone walks hunched over.”

”When they see everyone around them following the same rule, most people will follow suit, even if they don’t know why. It’s a common human trait, an instinct to seek advantages and avoid harm.”

Li Luo wanted to object, but when she thought about the situation on the island, she swallowed her words.

’Who could argue with that?’

No one would be the one to stand up straight.

But she still had a question:

”Why do the robots on the island also have to abide by their identities, and even more strictly?”

This was a question she had been pondering ever since she arrived on the island.

Jin Lou looked at her and answered calmly, ”It’s a transaction.”

”A transaction?”

”Yes. A transaction between the robots and Paradise Island.”

Jin Lou turned to look at Si Yang.

”Send her to that place. The real Paradise Island.”

Hearing Jin Lou’s words, Si Yang shook their head helplessly. ”As expected, you know everything.”

Their gaze lingered on Li Luo for a moment, and they sighed.

Clenching both hands into fists and stacking them one on top of the other, Si Yang made that strange gesture again.

”Build: Well,” their voice sounded a little tired.

The moment the words fell, Li Luo felt the ground beneath her vanish, and she began to fall uncontrollably.

The scenery around her began to change constantly.

White, black, white, black...

The black and white alternated ceaselessly. The thickness of these colored layers varied—some were very thick, others just a thin sliver.

’Are these... all domes?’

After calming down, Li Luo finally saw clearly what these colors represented.

The white was the domes, and the black was the shadows between them.

The shapes of the domes also varied, and there were strange facilities arranged on top of them. These white domes were stacked one on top of another, extending deep into the earth.

Li Luo didn’t know how long she had been falling, but she knew she must be incredibly deep now.

Suddenly, she felt herself sink into something soft, the impact of her fall instantly negated.

The soft substance slowly propped her up. When she came to her senses, she found herself on a stretch of pure white ground.

She was unharmed. The ground beneath her was as light and soft as a cloud.

”Where... is this?”

She looked around and found that Block, which had been right beside her, was gone. Jin Lou and Si Yang were also nowhere to be seen.

This soft ground stretched into the infinite distance, and the sky was also a pure, empty white, seemingly holding nothing at all.

It was then that Li Luo noticed the strange sensation beneath her.

She quickly looked down and saw countless feathers scattered across the ground. She pushed them aside with her hand, only to find more feathers underneath, layer after layer, with no telling how deep they went.

”It’s all feathers?”

’Is this a sea of feathers?’

”Where on earth am I?”

If Mo Ling were here, they would surely find these feathers very familiar, because they looked exactly the same as the ones in the Lamp Repairer’s memory.

Just as Li Luo was completely bewildered, a faint voice suddenly sounded beside her:

”Fire Thief, you have come.”

Li Luo turned to look and found a dim shadow of light, shaped like a human child, that had appeared behind her at some unknown point.

Li Luo scrambled warily to her feet and took a few steps back, but the soft ground nearly made her fall again.

”Who are you?” she demanded of the strange shadow of light.

Just then, a gust of wind swept in, blowing the feathers on the ground up into the air and obscuring Li Luo’s vision.

She had to shield her eyes with her hand to prevent the feathers from getting into them.

When the gust of wind died down, the feathers slowly drifted back to the ground.

Once all the feathers had settled, Li Luo looked for the shadow of light again, only to find it had vanished.

But just then, Li Luo felt a warmth beside her. She immediately looked over and saw the shadow of light standing right next to her, looking up at her.

Within its dim glow, patterns of light flickered like feathers.
