I'm Trapped in the Block

Chapter 359: Chapter 356: The Paradise Plan

Si Yang led the young man on a stroll around the island, chattering endlessly about its affairs.

The young man listened intently, just as Si Yang once had.

”Young man, why did you come to this island?”

In the past, some travelers had stumbled upon Paradise Island by mistake, and Si Yang had always welcomed them warmly. Therefore, it assumed this young man had arrived on Paradise Island for the same reason.

But the young man’s answer greatly surprised Si Yang.

”My ancestor once guarded this island.”

”Your... ancestor?”

Si Yang inquired curiously. After a series of questions, it confirmed that this young man was indeed the descendant of its old friend.

’Has it really been that long?’

The lifespan of the Silk Race was immense. They only needed to keep changing bodies to live on. Si Yang had already changed its body many times on Paradise Island, so many that it had lost count.

”I found this island in my people’s historical records. I was very curious about it, so I wanted to come and see for myself.”

The young man was curious about everything on the island, especially the breathtaking construction techniques.

This happened to be Si Yang’s area of expertise. It led the young man on a tour of the entire island, explaining the various construction methods along the way. The young man listened, completely engrossed, nodding repeatedly.

”Was all of this... for sealing the Hell Beast?”

”Yes. It is a terrifying creature.”

”Terrifying? Perhaps that’s how people felt back then. Nowadays, no one would be afraid of such a creature,” the young man replied faintly.

Hearing this, Si Yang was astonished. ’Have they found a way to deal with the Hell Beast now?’

It knew it had been on the island for far too long and was probably out of touch with the times. Perhaps some race had already invented a way to exterminate the Hell Beasts.

If that were the case, it wouldn’t have to keep guarding this island forever.

With this in mind, it asked the young man about the current situation, asking why no one was afraid of the Hell Beasts anymore.

As the young man listened to its questions, his expression grew increasingly strange. He then pulled a history book of his people from behind him, flipped to a specific page, and handed it to Si Yang.

Si Yang took it. It was fluent in many languages and could easily read the book’s contents.

Its gaze quickly locked onto the title at the top of the page:

”The Hell Beast and the Paradise Project.”

The title immediately piqued Si Yang’s interest, and it hurriedly read on.

”The wars within the abyss have not ceased for a long time. Many races have been torn apart, even leading to the extinction of many weaker ones. This war has dragged on for too long, and the flames of hatred burn ever brighter. If this continues, all civilizations will stagnate, or even regress.”

”The misuse of war relics has also caused strange phenomena to appear in many seas and on many islands. Originally safe areas have become dangerous due to the aftershocks of these relics’ effects. Living space has been drastically compressed, further restricting the development of civilization.”

”A way must be found to stop this meaningless war.”

This page seemed to be recounting the cause of an incident.

Si Yang impatiently flipped to the next page.

”We discovered a type of black creature. They are very small, and though they move with great clamor, they are harmless.”

”They gather over destroyed civilizations or appear where disasters have struck, as if searching for something. We studied these creatures and discovered that what they seek is—the suffering of living beings.”

”They are creatures that feed on painful memories. That is why they chase the aura of destruction; wherever disaster strikes, they will go.”

”Natural disasters, man-made calamities, wars, plagues... all are their targets. They seek out the survivors of disasters and devour their painful memories.”

”These creatures are immortal and indestructible, yet harmless. Survivors whose memories have been eaten actually become happier.”

”Due to the wars, these creatures began to multiply. They appeared frequently throughout the abyss and had already attracted the attention of many races. This was something we could exploit.”

”We needed to establish a common enemy, to transfer the hatred of war onto this common foe. We had to build this enemy up to be incomparably powerful, capable of destroying everything and causing all manner of disasters—strong enough to make all races point their spears at it.”

”And these creatures were exactly what we needed.”

”Therefore, we named these creatures—the Hell Beast.”

Reading this, a chill instantly ran through Si Yang’s mycelium.

’The Hell Beast... was fabricated?’

’Just a front?’

A passerby who frequently appeared at various ”crime scenes” was framed as a ”murderer” who was vicious, cruel, and left a trail of destruction!

This ”murderer” could make the constantly quarreling ”neighbors” unite to jointly protect the ”community’s” safety.

’Point the spear outward, and the inside can be safe and sound.’

Seeing this, Si Yang instantly understood everything.

It didn’t doubt the truth of the matter. During its travels, it had personally witnessed races destroyed by war, seen desolate islands reduced to rubble, and watched many seas and islands become dangerous and terrifying due to the aftershocks of battle.

After the Hell Beast appeared, almost all races set aside their differences and hatred, uniting to deal with this nigh-”invincible,” terrifying enemy.

Paradise Island, too, was only able to be constructed so quickly under these circumstances.

Si Yang’s hand trembled slightly. Its mycelium was twitching uncontrollably, causing problems with its fine motor control.

It tremblingly turned the book to the next page.

Just as it thought, the third page described the construction of Paradise Island. A ”hope” for dealing with the Hell Beast had united all the races. No one would dare cause trouble at such a time.

After the battle of Paradise Island, these races also began to reflect on the importance of peace. In the afterglow of the Hell Beast threat, peace lasted for a very long time.

Now, although there were still some small-scale conflicts in the Infinite Sea, most races had experienced the benefits of peace and would not easily start a war again.

”Our race was one of the executors of this plan at the time, responsible for publicity, which is why this history was recorded. Most races have now slowly learned the truth, but they all tacitly accept it. No one bothers to dig into the past.”

Hearing this, Si Yang nodded numbly.

”Yes... a happy ending for everyone. There’s no need to dig any deeper.”

The young man nodded as well.

”That’s right. A happy ending for everyone.”

”The war is over. Everything is fine...” Si Yang said, dazed.

”Of course. Everything is fine.”
