I Can Fish Up Everything!

Chapter 20: Chapter 20: Meeting the ”Sea-Jumping Girl” Again

”Sir, I’m Number 666. Don’t forget to ask for me next time you visit!”

Watching the young masseuse leave with her small toolbox, Gu Nan felt even more certain.

’All that talk about me being handsome and getting a girlfriend is just nonsense. See? She didn’t even ask for my WeChat.’

Gu Nan changed back into his clothes and stretched. He had to admit, it was incredibly comfortable. He felt much more relaxed.

Just then, his phone chimed. DING. He picked it up and saw a message from An Jun, asking if he was done.

Gu Nan sent a quick reply and headed out.

When he reached the front desk, An Jun was chatting and laughing with Qiaoya.

”What are you two so happy about?” Gu Nan asked as he walked over.

”An Jun bought a 10,000-yuan membership card. How about you, old classmate? Aren’t you going to get one?” Qiaoya said with a wide smile.

Before Gu Nan could refuse, An Jun came over and wrapped an arm around her shoulder. ”What, isn’t it enough that I topped up my card?”

Qiaoya twisted away, dodging his wandering hands, then rolled her eyes. ”I was just asking!”

”Ah Nan doesn’t need to buy one. Next time he wants a massage, he can just use my card. The most expensive service here is only 699, and with my 45% discount on this 10,000-yuan card, who knows how long it’ll take to use it up.”

”Then why didn’t you extend your session for a few more hours? Or was the service from your masseuse today not good enough?”

”Not today. Next time for sure,” An Jun said with a chuckle.

In places like this, you’re done for if you get carried away. The masseuses can bleed your wallet dry, and you might not even get what you truly want.

Gu Nan wasn’t the type to mess around. All he cared about was making money, so he had self-control.

An Jun, on the other hand, was simply experienced. The masseuses’ little tricks didn’t work on him.

He bought the membership card simply because he thought the service and the quality of the technicians were excellent, and he figured he’d come back to relax from time to time.

An Jun had already paid. After a bit more chatting, they were ready to leave.

Coincidentally, the elevator doors opened just then, and a girl who looked somewhat familiar to Gu Nan walked out.

The girl was rather petite, but her features were delicate and beautiful.

Seeing a potential customer arrive, the receptionist quickly bowed slightly and greeted her.

But the girl seemed flustered and quickly waved her hands. ”Hi, I’m not here for a massage. I saw you had a hiring notice, and I wanted to ask if you’re still looking for a receptionist?”

Hearing that someone was applying for a job, the receptionist had someone go inform the manager and asked the girl to wait a moment.

The girl who arrived was none other than Yi Chen. After getting off work in the morning and taking a nap, she had decided to look for a job before her shift started at four in the afternoon.

As she was waiting, she saw Gu Nan walking toward her. As for An Jun, she completely ignored him.

”Huh? What a coincidence! What are you doing here? I was just thinking of going to the beach tomorrow night to see if I might run into you!”

”Uh...” Gu Nan was suddenly baffled. ’Is this girl getting attached to me? Is she going to throw herself at me just because I’m handsome?’

Meanwhile, An Jun, who had been about to hit on the pretty girl, was taken aback to find that she knew his best buddy—and sounded quite forward, too. His respectable smile instantly twisted into a gossipy grin.

”It’s fine, you don’t have to be so formal. It was nothing.”

Yi Chen was about to take the opportunity to invite him to dinner, but then she saw the receptionist returning with a man. She quickly changed her tune. ”Can I add you on WeChat? Let me treat you to a meal as a thank you for last time.”

”No—” Before Gu Nan could get the refusal out, An Jun clamped a hand over his mouth and pulled the phone out of his pocket.

”Ah Nan, what’s your passcode?”

Gu Nan took a step back and shot his childhood friend a helpless glance, understanding his intentions.

Besides, his phone was already out. Refusing to add her now would just put the girl in an awkward position, and he couldn’t bring himself to do that. So, he added her on WeChat.

An Jun also seized the chance to add her on WeChat. His curiosity was burning, and he was determined to find out how this girl knew his money-minded childhood friend.

”Not bad, Ah Nan! Making friends with such a pretty girl on the sly. Why didn’t you tell me?” Outside Feiyun Pavilion, An Jun lightly bumped Gu Nan’s shoulder, teasing him.

But hearing this, Gu Nan just sighed.

The last time, the girl had seemed so distraught she’d ”jumped into the sea.” It made him think she was a bit extreme.

Now, hearing that she was planning to go to his fishing spot to find him felt like she was latching onto him, and it made his skin crawl.

”Hey, what are you sighing for? You don’t like her? Then I’ll make a move,” An Jun said, confused by his attitude. He was joking, trying to test the waters.

It wasn’t that he was genuinely interested in Yi Chen. He was just enjoying the spectacle of his ”tough nut” of a friend getting flustered, purely for his own amusement.

”That girl is very extreme in her thinking. I’d advise you not to get involved with her.” Gu Nan didn’t mention the part about Yi Chen ”jumping into the sea.”

It was her private matter, after all. But if An Jun was serious about pursuing her, he would definitely tell him.

”Extreme?” An Jun was baffled. Thinking back to Yi Chen’s poised and graceful demeanor just now, he couldn’t see anything extreme about her at all.

Still, you can’t judge a book by its cover, and you can’t see someone’s true nature after just one meeting, so he set the matter aside.

”Are you heading back to your shop now?”

”Yeah. You?”

”I’m heading home. I’ve got a ton of videos to edit, and I also need to look for some newly opened stores. So I won’t drop by your place.”

With that, the two went their separate ways.

Before returning to his shop, Gu Nan stopped by a print shop to print a ”Help Wanted” sign, which he posted in a conspicuous spot on his door.

He had already decided on the salary and benefits: a base salary of 2,000 yuan, plus a 5% commission, with lunch and dinner included.

’I’ll worry about social insurance and all that later. I don’t even have it myself!’

A small shop like his wouldn’t have formal contracts anyway. Many shops in Yangjiang Port hired employees this way—they just got paid, no contract signed.

However, Gu Nan didn’t write the salary or working hours on the sign, just ”To be discussed in person.”

This kind of job was best suited for older women who had a hard time finding other work.

They were experts when it came to cleaning and gutting fish, but they weren’t much good at anything else.

Gu Nan sat back down behind the counter and checked the time.

After lunch and the massage, it was already three in the afternoon.

It would get busy again in another two hours, so he decided not to go out. Instead, he opened his game and checked his daily quests.

While he was checking his daily quests, he had no idea that An Jun was currently digging a hole for himself.

An Jun was messaging Yi Chen, asking how she and Gu Nan knew each other.

She didn’t hide anything, telling An Jun directly that she had accidentally fallen into the water while foraging on the beach and was rescued by Gu Nan.

When An Jun read this, the mischievous look on his face deepened. ’So it was a classic hero-saves-the-beauty situation!’

He was about to ask for more details when he saw another message from Yi Chen.

”Can’t chat anymore, my shift is about to start. I have to get going.”

An Jun was instantly confused. ”Weren’t you just at a job interview? How are you also going to work?”

”I still work at a convenience store. I’ve already resigned, but I have to work for two more days. I was just checking out the job here, but the hours are too late. I’ll have to keep looking for something else.”

”I see!” An Jun realized. The next moment, he remembered that Gu Nan was also hiring, and a wicked smile spread across his face.

He remembered that Yi Chen had just said she was saved after falling into the water while foraging, which meant she probably wasn’t averse to handling seafood.

If he could trick her into working at Gu Nan’s shop, he figured the look on his best friend’s face would be absolutely priceless.

An Jun didn’t care whether Yi Chen would actually go work at Gu Nan’s shop. He just wanted to be there to capture the potentially spectacular moment.
