I Can Devour Spirits

The Inspector General of Yuanyang Prefecture wouldn’t write to hold officials of the same rank accountable just because of a mysterious case. This sort of standoff would make the case a headless unsolved mystery, and no one would take responsibility for it.

Zhu Baogui immediately came to his senses and bowed, saying, ”Rest assured, sir, I will take care of it right away.”

”Go on,” Sun Qian waved his hand. He saw Zhu Baogui only froze for a moment before reacting, and couldn’t help but look at him with a slight smile.

Zhu Baogui then bowed and retreated.

Sun Qian glanced at Ding Xingxing standing not far away and said, ”You go as well. I want to rest for a while. Stand guard at the door, and do not let anyone come in to disturb me.”

”Yes, sir!” Ding Xingxing stepped outside, gently closing the door of the flower hall.

Sun Qian rubbed his temples, weary from the long journey and the burden of the criminal case, feeling quite exhausted at the moment.

Sun Qian leaned back in the Grandmaster’s Chair, and then suddenly heard a rustling sound by the window. A shadow flashed, and someone leaped in through the window.

This person clearly had excellent Lightweight Skill, landing without a sound, toe touching the ground as they flew and landed, standing not far in front of Sun Qian’s desk.

The newcomer was dressed entirely in Night Clothes, wearing a pitch-black mask on their face, standing there, gazing intently at Sun Qian through the mask’s eyeholes.

Sun Qian saw this person, yet his face showed no surprise, as if he had anticipated their arrival.

At this moment, the figure in black removed the mask, revealing a face full of allure.

The visitor turned out to be Ge Qingchuan!

Sun Qian sighed, looking into Ge Qingchuan’s bright eyes and said, ”Miss Qingchuan, you’re too kind! As soon as I took office, you gave me such a great gift.”

Ge Qingchuan’s face blushed slightly. She knew Sun Qian was referring to their ambush on the Registered Disciple.

”This task was botched! We ran into tough opponents; Fan Hanzhou and Blood Monk Wu Xiang are both dead!”

”Fan Hanzhou is also dead?!”

Hearing the names Fan Hanzhou and Blood Monk Wu Xiang, Sun Qian’s expression changed dramatically as he sat up straight from the chair.

Having seen the autopsy report and listened to the oral accounts from the Sect Envoys, he already had some suspicions.

Regarding Blood Monk Wu Xiang, he was fairly certain, but he was unsure about Fan Hanzhou. Firstly, this person hadn’t shown up easily in recent years, and secondly, it was hard for him to imagine who could kill Fan Hanzhou.

”Yes.” Ge Qingchuan observed Sun Qian’s astonished face and said, ”Delay the paperwork on this case by two more days before submitting it to the sect and the prefecture. I have some finishing touches that need time to complete.”

Sun Qian tapped his fingers on the desk and said, ”Alright.”

Ge Qingchuan said, ”Sun Qian, the Hall took such great pains to appoint you as the County Magistrate of Xianggu County. Do you know why?”

Sun Qian had been infiltrating the Governor’s Office, an unknown Chief handling mainly unprofitable matters.

Recently, he suddenly received orders to transfer to Xianggu County as County Magistrate. Though he was secretly pleased, he knew it was manipulations from the Hall, and what exactly he was to accomplish in Xianggu County left him anxious.

Sun Qian asked, ”Could Miss Qingchuan please enlighten me?”

Ge Qingchuan said, ”Xianggu County, remote, with many mountains and dense forests, is easily defensible and difficult to attack. The Hall’s task for you is to develop this area into an impregnable stronghold for our Filthy Blood Sect!”

”Of course, resources from the Hall will be allocated, fully supporting you.”

Sun Qian’s eyebrows twitched. He knew this position as Xianggu County Magistrate wasn’t going to be a simple one.

Sun Qian asked, ”Hasn’t Ruan Fengshan been managing Xianggu County all these years?”

Ge Qingchuan said, ”Under Shen Yanliu’s eyes, how could he fully execute his plans? He does his work, and you do yours! You are far more important than Ruan Fengshan now, and until the right time, he cannot know your identity. This is for your safety.”

Sun Qian frowned slightly and asked, ”Are there spies around Ruan Fengshan?”

”Whether or not, we must be cautious. After a while, we’ll set a trap to test the waters. Until then, your identity must not be revealed to Ruan Fengshan.”

Sun Qian nodded.

Ge Qingchuan asked, ”Do you have any other issues?”

Sun Qian replied, ”One more thing. Was the incident with Jie Daohan our doing?”

”Jie Daohan?”

”The Chief Constable of Xianggu County.”

Ge Qingchuan shook her head, saying, ”It shouldn’t be. The Hall did nothing. Ruan Fengshan is lying low, so it likely wasn’t his doing either.”

Sun Qian’s eyes flickered, and he nodded with a thoughtful expression.

Ge Qingchuan glanced at Sun Qian, donned her mask again, and her figure flickered, disappearing from sight.

After Ge Qingchuan left, Sun Qian slumped back into the Grandmaster’s Chair.

Jie Daohan was, after all, a Criminal Chief of one county, a True Qi Realm powerhouse, not someone easily killed.

He had suspected the Jie Daohan case might have been their own doing, which is why he suppressed it, intending to turn it into an unsolved mystery blamed on the transferred Shen Yanliu.

But now it seemed the case wasn’t committed by their people?

A True Qi Realm powerhouse indeed!

”This water in Xianggu County is getting deeper...” Sun Qian muttered, his eyes wearier than before.
