Gravity Mage with Level-Up System

Shadow Skull

The chaos within Sand Rock Country had already claimed several border towns, wiping them off the map in a flurry of violence and destruction. The Shadow Skull killers knew that in this lawless environment, they could operate with impunity.

All they had to do was act swiftly and decisively, and the rewards would be enormous. Their revenge would not only restore their reputation but would also provide them with a wealth of resources to bolster their power. The time for patience was over. Now, it was time for action.

At this moment, a hunched-back old man in a crimson robe sat in a dimly lit chamber deep within the black fortress, poring over a stack of reports with furrowed brows. His face, lined with the scars of countless battles and dark rituals, reflected the burden of authority he carried as a Level-8 Wizard. He was the second-in-command, a figure of immense power and influence within the Shadow Skull.

Only their elusive leader outranked him. His skeletal fingers, stained from years of practicing forbidden magic, hovered over the documents as he meticulously absorbed the information.

It had been several months since he had personally greenlit the mission to assassinate Vincent Carey, a task he had believed would be straightforward for the seasoned killer he had sent. But the mission had failed spectacularly, and that failure had haunted him ever since.

Now, with the upheaval in the Sand Rock Country, he couldn’t help but revisit that botched assignment. A wave of frustration flickered in his cold, dark eyes. He had been certain of the assassin’s success, and the subsequent defeat had not only been a personal blow but had also tarnished the Shadow Skull’s reputation.

With a heavy sigh, he leaned back in his high-backed chair, the sound of its creaking echoing faintly through the otherwise silent chamber. His mind churned, trying to piece together where things had gone wrong.

He reached for the sleek, dark device on his desk—a relic of modern wizardry combined with ancient dark arts. With a flick of his wrist, a glowing blue screen flickered to life, suspended in midair above the device. His gnarled fingers moved with practiced ease, pulling up the latest intel report on Vincent Carey.

As the report filled the screen, the old man’s expression darkened. The information was thorough, an extensive dossier compiled from multiple sources.

It included everything from Vincent’s recent movements to his affiliations, magical abilities, and even potential weaknesses. But what caught the old man’s eye—and sent a cold shiver down his spine—was the recent update that Vincent Carey had been selected by none other than the Mage Union.

The mention of the Mage Union made his blood run cold. Despite his considerable power and rank within the Shadow Skull, the Mage Union was an entity that even the most fearsome dark wizards had to tread carefully around. Their reach was vast, their influence nearly absolute.

For centuries, they had been a beacon of order and authority within the magical world, and their intervention often spelled disaster for those who practiced darker arts. The Mage Union had the resources, manpower, and expertise to crush organizations like the Shadow Skull if they ever chose to focus their attention on them.

A flash of anxiety crossed the old man’s face, quickly replaced by a steely resolve. This changed everything. The realization that their target, Vincent Carey, had the backing of the Mage Union meant that this wasn’t just about revenge anymore.

It was a dangerous game they were playing, one that could bring the wrath of a far more powerful force upon them. Yet, abandoning the mission wasn’t an option. The voices within the Shadow Skull clamored for retribution, and failure to act would only weaken his standing among his peers.

But this new development required a recalibration of their plans. They could no longer afford to treat Vincent Carey as a mere wizard seed—they now had to account for the full might of the Mage Union.

The old man leaned forward, his fingers tightening around the armrests of his chair as his mind raced with possibilities. Should they continue to pursue Vincent Carey, they would need a strategy far more sophisticated than brute force.

They would need subterfuge, misdirection, and perhaps even allies from the shadows—other dark factions with their own grudges against the Mage Union. He would need to consult with their leader, but for now, the urgency of the situation was clear.

The Mage Union’s involvement was a complication he hadn’t anticipated, but it was one he could not afford to ignore.

As the old man continued to sift through the intel, his gaze grew sharper, more calculating. The blue screen flickered as he scanned every piece of information, piecing together the larger puzzle.

About ten minutes later, his eyes gleamed with a flicker of uncertainty—a rare moment of hesitation for someone as cold and decisive as him. His thoughts swirled in conflict, torn between the temptation of opportunity and the looming threat of disaster.

The current situation in the Sand Rock Country was a golden opportunity, one that could not be ignored. The region was in chaos, the perfect breeding ground for dark forces like the Shadow Skull to operate in the shadows.

Resources, territories, and even valuable magical relics lay vulnerable amidst the conflict. If they acted now, they could plunder those assets, strengthen their position, and perhaps even settle the score with Vincent Carey and his mysterious protector.

The Sand Rock Country’s instability provided the ideal cover for a covert operation, a chance to strike without drawing attention—at least, in theory.

Yet, despite the allure of this opportunity, his instincts warned him to tread carefully. The Mage Union had a long history of hunting down dark forces, sniffing them out like bloodhounds across every corner of the world.

While the Shadow Skull had so far managed to stay under their radar, largely by confining their operations to this lawless region, a single misstep could expose them to a far greater threat.
