Chapter 792: Chapter 789: Ji Dantong’s Dark Past

But, since it’s a competition, there will always be winners and losers, this is something unavoidable.

After some thought, Xu Ming decided to use a more subtle approach to prepare Bai Xiaoxuan, the most prized disciple, for what’s to come.

”Xiaoxuan, you’ve been with Miaohan for a while, what kind of person do you think she is?”

Bai Xiaoxuan heard the question and answered seriously: ”Miaohan is really good, she takes great care of people, and being with her, it feels like no matter what you say or do, she won’t get angry.”

Hearing Bai Xiaoxuan’s response, Xu Ming nodded and then asked, ”And what about Dantong? What kind of person do you think she is?”

”Dantong is certainly a very good person too, and she also takes great care of me.” After speaking, a hint of confusion appeared in Bai Xiaoxuan’s big eyes, not understanding why Xu Ming was suddenly asking these questions.

”In your heart, who do you hope will win or lose between the two of them?” Xu Ming asked a very sharp question, putting Bai Xiaoxuan in a dilemma.

Of course, she didn’t want either of them to lose the match, but Xu Ming’s words forced her to start thinking about what she should do if one of them did lose.

Should she first congratulate the winner, or should she first comfort the loser?

Seeing Bai Xiaoxuan’s dilemma, Xu Ming spoke: ”Actually, you don’t need to think too much, it’s just a normal competition. Before you joined the sect, the two of them used to have battles every now and then.”

”So, there’s no need for you to be troubled by this!”

After hearing Xu Ming’s words, Bai Xiaoxuan asked uncertainly, ”Is that really the case?”

Knowing she was still too young, Xu Ming used the most direct way to say: ”How’s your cultivation technique been going these days? Let’s practice a bit now with me!”

”Alright then!” Bai Xiaoxuan had to temporarily put aside the matter of Ji Dantong and Sun Miaohan and followed Xu Ming back to the loft.

In fact, Bai Xiaoxuan could somewhat hear that although the uncles’ reviews of the two were fair, they leaned more or less towards Sun Miaohan being the final winner.

But since Xu Ming dragged her away, she couldn’t afford to be distracted and could only focus on the present task at hand.

...

As a familiar gong sounded, the two women on the stage launched their attacks simultaneously amid the cheers and screams from the audience.

Ji Dantong’s long sword quivered, transforming into a row of overlapping phantoms, making it impossible to discern the trajectory of her sword momentum, or even which one was the real sword body.

Looking at the long-standing phantom on the stage, the onlookers applauded and cheered, at least from a visual perspective at the start, Ji Dantong was slightly better than Sun Miaohan.

However, these disciples couldn’t see that when Ji Dantong just swung her sword, she didn’t use her True Qi at all, in other words, this was the innate effect of the Proud Snow Evil Shadow Bamboo.

Facing these dazzling moves, Sun Miaohan showed no signs of panic, instead, she flashed an enchanting smile that captivated anyone watching, making them lost in it.

Ji Dantong knew, this was Sun Miaohan using her Enchanting Heart Technique, every movement carried a seductive effect, and the most difficult part to defend against was that this kind of charm worked on both genders; once you start indulging in it, it’s hard to wake up.

Luckily, Ji Dantong wasn’t without her means to counter. After waving her long sword densely, she tapped her side with her hand, causing a sharp pain that immediately cleared her mind.

This method was simple and crude, but it had surprisingly good effect. Looking at Sun Miaohan again, she no longer felt that dizziness.

”Junior Sister sure has her ways!” Sun Miaohan chuckled softly, verbally praising, but the mocking tone was evident to everyone.

Ji Dantong was unmoved, having decided that once the fight began, she would not engage Sun Miaohan in conversation; as long as she could steady her mind, her opponent was not as invincible as she seemed.

”If you think you can win just by avoiding conversations with me, I suggest you give up and surrender early,” Sun Miaohan taunted. ”I wonder if you’ve ever counted, how many times have we dueled since we were young?”

The expressionless Ji Dantong remained steadfast, ignoring Sun Miaohan’s provocations and unwilling to engage in conversation.

Of course, she wasn’t idle either; while treating Sun Miaohan’s words like wind passing her ears, she was also gradually gathering strength, readying for a swift strike.

Sun Miaohan, unfazed by Ji Dantong’s silence, exhibited a casual demeanor as if she might unleash her Protective True Qi at any moment, her relaxed posture almost unbelievable.

At this time, Sun Miaohan spoke lightly again: ”It doesn’t matter if you don’t remember, I have kept every one of them in mind, never forgetting a single one all these years. If you don’t believe me, I can recount them for you.”

With a sigh, Sun Miaohan continued wistfully: ”I remember the time you were seven and I was ten; we argued over an eraser and decided that whoever ranked lower in the next exam would be responsible for the other’s erasers from then on.”

”From then until we graduated, I never had to buy an eraser again!”

The audience beneath the stage erupted in laughter, causing Ji Dantong’s face to change colors, showing extreme anger.

It would have been better if Sun Miaohan hadn’t brought it up, but once she did, it dredged up old painful memories. She wasn’t wrong; from that time on, Ji Dantong never bought another eraser.

But Sun Miaohan’s speed of eraser usage was terrifying; it was not using erasers but seemed like eating them.

Thrice a day, without fail, she’d demand erasers from Ji Dantong, not even sparing weekends or holidays, overly excessive.

With very limited pocket money during those school days, Ji Dantong spent nearly all her money buying erasers for Sun Miaohan, watching others eat snacks with envy while comforting herself by thinking they were junk food.

Finishing her story, Sun Miaohan continued: ”Our second bet was about ten days after the first, when you demanded that if you won, I’d provide your erasers and serve your meals.”

”Since then, I never visited the canteen during school again.”

Another burst of laughter erupted, making the people below feel like they were listening to a stand-up comedy rather than a serious competition.

”The third bet happened thirteen and a half days after the second; unconvinced, you proposed that if you lost, you’d not only provide all my erasers and meals, but also wash my feet...”

”Enough!”

Before she could finish, Ji Dantong’s flushed face let out a shout, then all the phantoms in mid-air converged and fiercely stabbed towards Sun Miaohan.
