Endless Evolution: Last Star

Chapter 1645 1645: Smiling Guest

The Winding Fragments was a special method that allowed the Phantoms to locate their conditions.

Previously, Adam and Alexia had to go to Heaven Island to use this method. They needed Queen Elisaʼs aura for it, but now, he had entered that space on his own without even realizing it.

However… instead of rejoicing at the good news, Adamʼs face looked lost, slowly turning paler.

”Are you sure about this?”

Adam nodded with a deep frown.

”Yes, when we did this with Alexia, everything was different. We saw them... Hundreds of fragments, and each one had something to offer, but only one of them suited both of us. Now... Only darkness.”

This was one of those times when Silvana couldnʼt help at all. She knew no more about the Winding Fragments than Adam did, and that feeling of helplessness annoyed her.

”Tsk.” She clenched her teeth and sat down with a thud in front of him.

The cup of coffee trembled in her tight grip.

”Letʼs not jump to conclusions, but I donʼt like this. If we canʼt come up with anything, Iʼll call Beth, she should explain to us what the hell is going on here!”

For a moment, a heavy, oppressive silence hung in the room.

It went on like this until Silvana looked uncertainly at Adam, whose frown remained just as deep.

”Hey...” Silvanaʼs voice rang out. ”I have an idea, but it doesnʼt sound very good.”

”Hmm?” Adam looked up. ”What do you mean?”

”What if itʼs not that somethingʼs wrong with the Winding Fragments now, but that itʼs always been like this from the very beginning?”

Adam was confused.

”Agh? But Silvana, whatʼs the point of that? When I did this with Alexia, there were no problems at all! We had thousands of options!”

”Really?” She gave him a sharp, piercing look.

Adam was caught off guard. He couldnʼt figure out what heʼd overlooked.

”You only had one option. We decided on it because it was the only place in the whole world at that moment where you and Alexia could obtain the Ancient Frost and the Blood of God.

”We were wrong about the Blood of God, but still, you fulfilled one of your conditions there, just as promised by the chosen fragment.”

Adam blinked. ”And?”

Silvanaʼs gaze grew more serious.

”What if the Highest Bliss was originally the only condition the Winding Fragments could have specified for you? In that case, everything falls into place. It wasnʼt the Winding Fragments that adapted to the two of you. It was Alexia who adapted to your limited choices.”

In an instant, Adam wanted to object, but froze the next moment.

He had nothing to say. Deep down, he already knew Silvana was right.

”But... If everything really is as you say, then thatʼs bad, really bad.”

She bit her lip until it bled.

She understood what Adam meant by that. If even the Winding Fragments couldnʼt point the way to his conditions, then that could only mean how difficult they were to obtain.

Adam touched his temples.

”It looks like we have no other choice. We need to contact Damien and Beth… They must know something.”

Silvana blinked a few times as she seemed to realize something.

”The Queen! Maybe we need her help!”

For a moment, Adam stared at Silvana with wide eyes. She had found the answer, or… so he thought at first.

”No.” He shook his head. ”I hadnʼt noticed it, but if I did this without Queen Elisa, then thereʼs no point in bothering her anymore. Perhaps her power changed me, or perhaps itʼs all because of the Dark Energy…”

Silvana slowly returned to her seat as the joyful smile faded from her face.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

With a pensive look, she tapped on the table, trying to find at least some solution to their situation.

”Damn it! Why do problems always pop up when you least expect them!”

Shaking her head, Silvana headed for the sink. Her cup was already empty.

”Iʼll try to contact Beth. Tsk, they should have warned us that something like this could happen!”

Adam scratched the back of his head.

”What if even that doesnʼt help us?”

”Agh?”

”What if the Winding Fragments are the only method? If my two conditions remain hidden even from the fragments, then we need to devise an alternative approach. Maybe if I go to the Dead Lands, Iʼll be able to find out more?”

Silvana raised her eyebrow sternly.

”You just got home, and youʼre planning to leave again? What? Do you think youʼll get answers in Izardo or somewhere else?”

Adam spread his arms wide.

”Who knows? Maybe there, or maybe somewhere else. Although...” He leaned on his hand, leaning forward. ”Youʼre right. First, we need to contact Damien and Beth. They must know something.”

DING!

Suddenly, the doorbell rang.

Adam and Silvana exchanged glances. They definitely werenʼt expecting guests today.

At first, Adam smirked. ”Hah, could that arrogant bastard have been eavesdropping on us again?”

He assumed it was Damien, but soon… their faces froze. They both realized that if it had been Damien, he would have been on their balcony and walked into their kitchen as if it were his own home. That wasnʼt his style.

”Maybe itʼs some kind of mailer or advertisement or something else?” Silvana ran through the possibilities.

”Do you think theyʼd let just anyone in here? Damn, shouldnʼt we have gotten a notification beforehand?”

Ding!

The doorbell rang again. Their unknown guest showed no sign of haste or alarm.

They had nothing to fear, but for some reason, perhaps because of how timely this visitorʼs arrival was, Adam and Silvanaʼs hearts were beating faster than usual.

Exchanging a glance, they headed toward the door just as another ring sounded.

Ding!

Adam reached out, slowly opening their tall door.

The light from the kitchen met the elevatorʼs lamps, and a silhouette familiar to both of them was reflected in their eyes.

”Good evening. I hope I havenʼt interrupted anything important?”

Gladius smiled warmly as he held a surprisingly large, black case firmly in his right hand.
