Endless Evolution: Last Star

Chapter 1616 1616: Attention from the Outside

Morok and his team knew that Adam Vinter had to be somewhere in this area. They werenʼt able to meet at the borderline as planned, but they understood that he hadnʼt left the Primal Lands yet.

”Boss, what do you think? Who could have attacked Ramilo?” The muscular man said in a low voice. He sat next to a rock, looking bored as he broke one stone after another like nuts.

The young man who had lost his right arm in the clash with Ramilo looked at the campfire with a slight frown. He wasnʼt angry at his leader or even at Ramilo. The target of his discontent was someone else.

”What the hell were they thinking? Did they really believe that this bitch, Liliane, and the fifth team were enough to kidnap Adam Vinter? No matter where he is or what situation heʼs in.”

The woman sitting to his right, smoking, blinked slowly.

”Itʼs obvious. Just as we see him as a threat, humans see him as the next light. Heʼs not the only one like that, but I canʼt remember the last time a stellar Phantom progressed so quickly.”

The girl, the last member of their squad, bit her lip.

”Most likely, they think heʼll manage to become a Second Rank Phantom before the next World Wipe. Thatʼs bold, very bold, but given the situation, I canʼt say theyʼre delusional.”

Morok, who was sitting on a heavy log with his hands folded, nodded deeply.

”They definitely believe that. I donʼt know why SHE decided that the fifth team could handle this task, but thatʼs why we were sent here. We are significantly stronger than they are, and we will accomplish our mission. What about Ramilo...”

Morok fell silent for a few moments.

”He was telling the truth, but only partially. Someone did attack him, but he gave Adam Vinter up willingly. It feels like he didnʼt expect it himself, but the plan was too good to turn down.”

Although Morokʼs squad had arrived directly from the Befallen Crown, they had no way of knowing where Adam was. The Primal Lands were vast, not only in terms of territory, but also in terms of the monsters that lived there.

Every powerful monster had an aura that was just as powerful. Hundreds or even thousands of such auras overlapped each other, making it extremely difficult to track Adamʼs weak aura in such noise.

So they waited, waited until something unusual happened.

Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.

They waited for it.

A tremor ran through the Primal Lands as Morok turned his head.

In the distance, a pillar of darkness was visible, followed by a powerful, crimson aura that resembled a flame emanating from the hottest depths of hell.

The woman glanced to the side, brushing off the ashes.

”Well, well, for some reason I thought it was him from the very beginning.”

The young manʼs eyes widened in disbelief.

”The First Starʼs energy? So powerful and pure? But... Is there even a single source of it here?”

The muscular man nodded.

”Yes. Itʼs Adam Vinter himself. It seems he just absorbed the Dark Energy from the black flash.”

”Hmm?” The girl blinked several times. ”Isnʼt that dangerously deadly at his level?”

Morok stood up, brushing the dust off his pants. His height and large frame cast a shadow over the girl.

”Yes. Adam Vinter had only one attempt to succeed, the First Star would consider it a failure. In his case, that would mean death. Still...” Morok clenched his fists, his white gloves trembling. ”Not only did he survive, but he gave that clown power. The more I learn about that bastard, the more I understand our eldersʼ desire to destroy him.”

With a menacing grimace, Morok raised his hand, and with a wave of his arm, the four monsters disappeared into the shadows. Then, he too was gone.

...

Step. Step. Step.

Morok and his squad were far from Zargosʼs mansion and the jungle, but given their level of power, they would reach their destination in just a few minutes.

Merra understood this.

”Hurry, Adam! We donʼt have much time!” She said as they stopped in front of the stone gates.

Tap.

She placed her palm on the gate, directing her energy as the seal on the gate glowed brightly, letting them inside.

Adam looked around, curiously examining the tall stone walls, where there was nothing but rare red crystals for lighting. Complex runes covered the walls from floor to ceiling.

There were no windows, secret entrances, or anything of the sort.

Rumble!

As soon as the gate closed with a crash, there was no way out.

”What is this place?”

Merra turned to him.

”Zargos uses this basement to store energy or for practice. For this reason, the walls here are particularly strong. Even for a Lord, destroying them would not be easy.”

However, Adamʼs eyes only grew darker.

”That wonʼt stop those monsters, right?”

Merra shook her head.

”Still, it will buy us time. Stay behind me. Iʼm not as strong as Zargos, but I can protect you.”

Adam didnʼt argue as he stepped back, leaning against the wall. He placed his palm on the runes, feeling the energy flows running along the stone blocks.

”Hah, this isnʼt a basement, itʼs a real bomb shelter. I wonder how strong a monster would have to be to break through here with a single punch?”

...

Whooooooosh.

A warm breeze blowing through the jungle reached Zargos, ruffling his black hair.

He stood in a field, a hundred meters in front of his house. His aura was active, showing all his power.

Zargos did this on purpose. He couldnʼt let Morok and the others go to his house first. In that case, protecting Adam would become even more difficult.

Soon, the corners of his mouth went up, forming a satisfied smirk.

His plan had worked.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

Five shadows appeared before him as Morok, still shrouded in thick darkness, stepped forward, shaking the ground with his powerful stride.

”Itʼs really you, Zargos...” He croaked. Morok was not thrilled with who their opponent turned out to be.

Zargos shrugged.

”Guys, are you lost? This is private property, so if you donʼt want me to kick your asses, get out of here while Iʼm still in a good mood!”

Morok spat out.

”Fucking jester.”
