Divine Level Witch Doctor

After the afternoon meeting concluded, Kang Fengyu, accompanied by several renowned figures from Huashang’s medical community, sought out Zhao Yuan.

”We just received some news.”

Kang Fengyu looked at Zhao Yuan, his expression exceptionally grave.

”Genji Doju has arrived in Huashang with over a dozen of his disciples! Furthermore, the Japanese Kampo medicine community is treating your competition with Kawashima Haruhiro as a ’War of Inheritance’! In the next two days, many more renowned Japanese Kampo practitioners will be arriving in Huashang to cheer on Kawashima Haruhiro and help him strategize.”

Zhao Yuan was puzzled. ”A War of Inheritance? What does that mean?”

Kang Fengyu explained, ”The Japanese Kampo medicine community has always believed that they are the true inheritors of Traditional Chinese Medicine, that its essence lies in their hands. The deeply satisfying words you spoke when you accepted Kawashima Haruhiro’s second challenge were, to their ears, heretical statements.”

”So in their eyes, your upcoming competition with Kawashima Haruhiro has been elevated to a national war between modern Traditional Chinese Medicine and Kampo medicine! It has become the War of Inheritance between two schools of medicine! Whoever wins is the true inheritor of TCM culture!”

Zhao Yuan couldn’t help but sneer. ”The Japanese Kampo practitioners may have used all sorts of tricks and force to seize many Medical Skills from TCM, but to think they can usurp the host’s role and steal the inheritance of Traditional Chinese Medicine with such thieving, bandit-like tactics is nothing but a pipe dream!”

Ma Guotao chimed in, ”In the last few hundred years, Traditional Chinese Medicine has indeed suffered from natural disasters, human calamities, and wars, leading to some gaps in its lineage. But as the old saying goes, a starved camel is still bigger than a horse! They want to fight us for the inheritance of TCM culture? They’re not worthy!”

Kang Fengyu reminded them, ”That may be true, but you must take this seriously and not lower your guard! The people rushing to Huashang are all masters of Japanese Kampo medicine. Although they can’t directly help in the competition, they will definitely be advising Kawashima Haruhiro beforehand!”

After a slight pause, he said in a solemn tone, ”In this upcoming competition, Zhao Yuan, you won’t just be facing Kawashima Haruhiro, nor just the Genji School, but the entire Japanese Kampo medicine community!”

Zhao Yuan nodded. ”Understood.”

Kang Fengyu was a little surprised. ”How are you not the least bit nervous?”

”At this point, what’s the use of being nervous?” Zhao Yuan smiled wryly. ”No matter who the opponent is, and no matter how many of them there are, I will defeat them!”

”Well said!” Everyone cheered in unison, deeply struck by the heroic confidence in Zhao Yuan’s words.

Kang Fengyu also praised him. ”Before a great battle, one must maintain high morale and sufficient confidence. Otherwise, you’ve already lost before you even begin!”

Once everyone had quieted down a bit, he spoke again. ”There’s one more thing. We received news that Kawashima Haruhiro visited a patient this afternoon. It’s highly likely he will choose this patient for you to treat. Dr. Cui Fan is more familiar with this patient’s situation, so I’ve specially invited him to give you an introduction.”

A doctor standing next to Kang Fengyu, a man in his forties wearing glasses, stepped forward.

This was Dr. Cui Fan, an expert in the field of mental illness in Huashang, and also a master of the medical arts well-versed in both Chinese and Western practices.

After a few simple pleasantries, Cui Fan began his introduction. ”The patient Kawashima Haruhiro visited is named Liu Lili. She’s thirty years old and a Huashang local. Two years ago, her son died in an unfortunate accident. Devastated by the blow, she has been mentally unstable ever since...”

”Liu Lili?” Xiao Xianlin’s brow twitched as he interjected, ”Is that the patient with schizophrenia? I remember her family brought her to the affiliated hospital of West Hua Medical University for treatment. Old Liu and I were both brought in for a consultation at the time.”

He turned his head to explain to Zhao Yuan, ”This Liu Lili, under normal circumstances, is just somewhat aloof and likes to stay in dark, cold corners. But once a schizophrenic episode hits, she becomes a completely different person. Her speech and actions are like those of a three- or four-year-old child, yet she has absurdly great strength and an extremely violent temper, lashing out to hit people and destroy things at the slightest provocation...”

Liu Mingzhang nodded and added, ”Old Xiao and I, along with the university’s psychology and psychiatry professors, consulted on her case together. We came up with countless treatment plans, but none of them had any effect.”

Many of the medical experts gathered nearby also knew of this patient and chimed in:

”Liu Lili once came to our Capital City Hospital. To treat her illness, we gathered experts and professors from relevant fields for a joint consultation. We even held a video conference with several famous psychologists and psychiatrists from the US. But in the end, not only did her condition not improve, it actually got worse!”

”She also sought treatment in Yangcheng City, to no effect. Moreover, we discovered that aside from her mental problems, her physical condition was also deteriorating daily. Not only were there signs of depleted upright qi and fading Yang Qi, but severe, malignant sores had also appeared on multiple parts of her body! To this day, we still haven’t figured out the cause of these symptoms.”

”Same here, we were also deeply troubled by Liu Lili’s case! Not just her mental issues, but also those stubborn sores! It was strange—even if we managed to heal the sores, they would recur within a day or two. When she was with us, many parts of her body had been corroded by the sores to the point of near perforation!”

”This patient came to our hospital too, and we were also completely helpless.”

Zhao Yuan’s brows knitted tightly.

Listening to everyone, Liu Lili’s situation sounded truly bizarre.

Visiting so many famous doctors without any result whatsoever... this was clearly not a simple case of schizophrenia. Especially with the later appearance of depleted upright qi, fading Yang Qi, and those stubborn, malignant sores!

Zhao Yuan suddenly recalled several similar cases he had seen before in Wu Peng’s Medical Cases.

The patients in those cases all had the same cause for their condition—a turtledove occupying the magpie’s nest! Besides their own soul, their bodies contained the Ghost Soul of a dead person!

With a human and a Ghost cohabiting one body, it was natural for symptoms of schizophrenia to appear. Against this, ordinary medication and psychological counseling would be completely ineffective!

As for Liu Lili’s depleted upright qi, fading Yang Qi, and stubborn sores, Zhao Yuan suspected it was highly likely caused by contamination from Death Qi and corpse poison!

Zhao Yuan mused internally, ’To get Liu Lili back to normal, I first have to expel the Ghost from her body. The question is, did this Ghost Soul forcibly seize her body, or did she willingly allow this Ghost to continue ’living’ inside her? If it’s the latter, this will be much more difficult...’

Liu Lili’s current condition was already terminal. If she didn’t receive effective treatment soon, Zhao Yuan was certain she would not survive the winter!
