Devouring Evolution: Devouring Nuclear Bombs at the Start

98: Chapter 98 Loud RoarInside a spacious conference hall, several humanoid creatures with peculiar appearances sat facing each other.

These humanoids had faces similar to Earthlings, but their height was slightly greater, with an average height of around three meters.

Behind these humanoids grew three flexible, long organs that moved as nimbly as tentacles.

Because their home world was called Origin Star by themselves, they referred to themselves as ’Origin Star People’ after leaving it.

At this moment, within this conference room, several Origin Star People were engaged in a heated discussion.

An Origin Star officer spoke solemnly.

”Always being so passive isn’t the solution; we need to strike back.”

”As long as those monsters aren’t eliminated, the civilians of Origin Star will never have peace.”

He was the captain of the Second Fleet; every time there was a monster invasion, he was the one charging at the very front.

Although these monsters were extremely fragile when facing the firepower of their fleet, the problem lay in the fact that their appearance locations were not fixed. Moreover, as soon as they appeared, a large number of civilians would suffer as a result.

Origin Star was the planet with the most civilians among the four terrestrial planets.

It was impossible to evacuate all the civilians; the other three planets were strategic military zones, and there was no way or means to give them up for civilian residence.

”Captain Yi Di, how is the progress on your end?”

Listening to the agitated voice of the Second Fleet captain, the Chief turned to look at the First Fleet captain beside him and asked.

”Chief, through our surveys during this period, we have roughly locked onto several Warp Tunnels.”

”We also have some leads on how to utilize these warps.”

”However, I cannot guarantee a safe warp right now. For the safety of the fleet, I suggest we observe a few more monster attacks before attempting a warp.”

Yi Di’s tone was very calm, reporting his work progress to everyone in a completely business-like manner.

”Wait for what? How many of our compatriots have already been slaughtered by those monsters’ recent attacks?”

”We can wait, but can the civilians of our civilization afford to wait?”

”Say no more. My Second Fleet is willing to head into the Warp Tunnel.”

Ting, the captain of the Second Fleet, slapped the table in anger after hearing Yi Di’s words and stood straight up from his seat.

Facing Ting, who was glaring at him with an angry gaze, Yi Di sighed helplessly.

He stood up, walked to Ting’s side, and reached out to pat his shoulder.

”I’ll go. This is something my First Fleet should be doing, after all.”

Ting’s current state was completely unsuitable for leading troops on an expedition. If he were allowed to lead a team to an unknown planet, there was no telling what might happen.

Furthermore, the civilization’s external military operations were inherently the duty of the First Fleet. Yi Di had only said what he did earlier out of caution.

Now that Ting had put it that way, it was impossible for Yi Di not to go.

Actually, based on the strength of the monsters that had appeared so far, the Origin Star People weren’t afraid at all.

As long as their fleet could reach the planet where the monsters were located, it would be a total steamroll.

The only thing that worried Yi Di was the source that caused these monsters to mutate.

He didn’t know why the monsters mutated.

If it was because they came into contact with a certain object, then it wouldn’t matter.

But if simply appearing on that planet caused the creatures there to mutate, then the fleet warping to that planet might as well be declared annihilated.

...

After a period of heated discussion, the Chief ultimately did not let Yi Di head into the Warp Tunnel first.

As the captain of the First Fleet, if he were to fall on that planet, it would undoubtedly be a grievous blow to their civilization.

The Chief didn’t want the civilization to lose such a core figure, but as Ting said, not going wasn’t an option either.

Finally, after some deliberation among the group, a brand-new fleet composed of elements from the First, Second, and Third Fleets stepped into the Warp Tunnel.

This new fleet was equipped with extremely powerful firepower. If the antimatter carried by the fleet were released at once, it would be enough to destroy any terrestrial planet other than Origin Star.

The leader of this fleet was an elder named ’Old General’, a veteran of the civilization with ample experience in commanding combat operations.

Under the witness of many high-ranking Origin Star People and civilians, Old General led this fleet through the Warp Tunnel and headed for Eighteen Stars.

[Host, your evolution points have reached 1.1 trillion. Would you like to proceed with Evolution?]

Before devouring the black stones, Lin Sheng had given the system a command: he wanted the system to give him a notification when his evolution points reached 1.1 trillion.

Hearing the system’s notification sound, Lin Sheng jolted and snapped back to his senses.

He glanced at the data panel.

Body Length: 13,102 meters (13,000 meters)

evolution points: 1.1 trillion

Lin Sheng twisted his body.

Before seeing his body length, he didn’t feel much.

But after seeing it, for some reason, he felt a sense of crampedness in his heart.

”An illusion, just psychological.”

Lin Sheng rose and took to the air, flying out of this pit that was tens of thousands of meters deep.

Circling once near the pit and looking at his masterpiece from these past days, Lin Sheng pondered for a moment.

The deeper he dug, the harder the black stones became, and the lower the energy within them.

Lin Sheng planned to wait until this Evolution was complete, then switch locations, return to the mountain peak, and dig down from there again.

Arriving at the summit, a pit tens of thousands of meters in diameter was like a pore on a person’s nose—it had almost no impact on South Pole Mountain.

Lin Sheng found a flat spot to lie down and instructed the system in his mind:

”System, consume 1 trillion evolution points and begin Evolution.”

[Ding]

[This Evolution will require 3.5 years. Please wait patiently, Host.]

After the system’s voice faded, Lin Sheng did not fall into a slumber immediately.

He wanted to ”cultivate” that immortal cultivation manual while evolving.

Although the manual had no substantial effect on Lin Sheng and the increase in consciousness speed was very limited, he always felt a sense of joy when ”cultivating” it.

Time passed day by day as Lin Sheng evolved.

One day.

BOOM!

In the distant horizon, a massive roar startled Lin Sheng out of his immersion in ”cultivation.”

”What’s going on?”
