Death… And Me

Chapter 3679: Why?

”Well then, let’s get things over with.”

Victor once again acted, and the entire field was flooded with Soul Power and Spatial Laws. Everyone, without exception, felt their minds going hazy before they disappeared.

There were exceptions, though. Rean, Roan, Kentucky, Celis, Rifindio...

And Royer and Elsie!

”Oh! I almost forgot you guys had sided with us,” Rean commented, noticing Royer and Elsie nearby.

Royer bitterly smiled. ”We sided with you, and we had the intention of helping more. But in the end, the most we managed to do was to stay out of trouble during the battle. There was the Universe Root Egg, but I won’t lie, for that one, I tried to find a way to get it for myself.”

Rean and the others didn’t mind. ”That’s to be expected. You also came here intending to become a Celestial Realm Expert, after all.”𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

”Don’t worry,” Rifindio said. ”Even if it was you who got it, none of us would have cared that much. Besides, you did help us a lot with your experience as we made our way here.”

”We even got the fruits in the Astral Tree, and this Universe Owner thing isn’t anywhere as important to us as that,” Roan also commented.

”Thank you,” Elsie spoke for her master. ”This idiot master of mine simply couldn’t give up this Celestial Realm thing.”

”Still...” Royer looked above, where the kid was. ”I didn’t expect that siding with you would also be valid for the Universe Root Egg thing.”

Victor wasn’t paying much attention to them at the moment. Instead, he had gathered with the Universe Owners. ”Alright, all seven of you have seen the result, and I even gave your chosen ones and the experts of your Universe an extra chance with the Root Egg.”

”That was a little unfair with me...” Triaglia couldn’t help but complain a bit. But she quickly recovered. ”Sorry, master. I misspoke.”

”It’s fine,” Victor didn’t mind. ”I did indeed change the rules on the fly out of boredom, but that wasn’t fair to you. It doesn’t really matter now since your Chosen still got the Root Egg anyway. You will also get your chance as promised.”

Victor then looked at the other six. ”You guys can go back to your Universes now. It is quite tiresome to keep your presence here while preventing your universes from causing a backlash due to your disappearance.”

All six Celestial Realm Experts nodded. ”Thank you, master.”

Fliun, the tiny minotaur and also the Owner of F952, took the chance to ask. ”Master, when do you think you will start a new selection process?”

Victor pondered a bit. ”The time between the last selection and now was quite short, so it should take a while, no less than five million years. But who knows, I might get bored and decide to give you guys an earlier chance again. It’s just that your Universes aren’t the only ones I’m in charge of, so I need to take care of the others and give them their chances as well.”

Fliun nodded. ”I understand. Thank you for the answer, master.”

Following that, all six experts disappeared, leaving only Triaglia behind with the twins’ group. ”Let’s go down. We need to talk.”

Roan and the others saw Victor approaching, and Triaglia was with him. Rifindio looked at her, his eyes betraying his doubts. Just what was all this chosen thing about?

Triaglia then approached Rifindio, patting his head like he was a kid. ”You did well. Thank you for freeing me. It’s your time now.”

”Eh?” Rifindio was as confused as the rest of the group.

Victor took the chance to start his explanation. ”I told you before, didn’t I? The Universe Owners will become Celestial Realm Experts, but they will be locked in their Universes. Before I start explaining in detail, Rifindio, you will become the next Universe F956 Owner. Do you wish for these guys to know the whole story? You have to right to keep them in the dark.”

Rifindio looked at the twins’ group before quickly nodding. ”You can tell them everything. I wouldn’t have reached this place had it not been for them.”

”Very well,” Victor immediately started. ”First, Rean, Roan, Kentucky, Celis, Royer, Elsie, know that what you hear here today can’t be spread back to the other living beings of F956. This is serious, so don’t blame anyone else for what might happen if you open your mouths.”

”Yes, senior.” Everyone accepted the conditions.

”Good!” Victor continued. ”Let’s start with the rules for the chosen this time around. Each Universe Owner could select one expert to become their chosen. Their chosen would carry their Universe’s Mark, and would receive a great infusion of good karma once they entered this little palace of mine.”

”As you already noticed, I prepared many rewards all over this palace, and the chosen had by far the best chance of finding them. It would be a great help for the time they get here, where we are now.”

”It is because of this good karma that Rifindio was taken by the cocoons. The other chosen also had their own good fortune, although I have to admit, I didn’t expect anyone to end up acquiring Celestial Laws. Rifindio was truly beyond lucky. It feels a little sad since my little Demon Plant died due to that. Oh well, that is part of his good fortune.”

”Anyway, to receive this chosen mark, there were certain conditions. The one selected as the chosen could not receive any direct support. He couldn’t even know he was a chosen. At most, the Universe Owners could act indirectly, like managing their training to a certain extent. Additionally, the Universe Owners had to provide extremely harsh environments for their chosen ones. I believe that’s what Triaglia did to Rifindio?”

”Yes,” Triaglia nodded. ”I pretended to be a lower elder and did what I could without breaking the rules. Not even once did I provide Rifindio with resources, advantages in the Supreme Palace, higher concentration of bloodline, or anything else. He was also unaware of his position as a chosen one until he got to the Palace. Our relationship was that of a very strict elder who didn’t seem to care about how terrible Rifindio’s bloodline was. And while I played the role of lower elder, I was just as strict with everyone else I was in charge of during that time. No one knew my real identity.”

”Very good,” Victor nodded. ”Rifindio, do you confirm her words?”

Rifindio was still puzzled, but he nodded. ”Yes... So that’s why everything was so bad... Still, I don’t understand. Why was such a thing necessary?”

”That’s the part I’ll explain now,” Victor said.
