Death… And Me

Chapter 3286  Can We Leave?

Rean, Roan, and Kentucky would be lying if they said they were surprised by that approach. When they searched ʼWerdlem Empireʼ and found nothing, they understood that this possibly raised some alarms. But that was already too late, so they simply continued their research. If necessary, they could simply flee. At some point, they noticed someone looking at them while they used the terminals. Still, since the one looking didnʼt come to bother them, they continued until they didnʼt have anything else to look for there. Now, the guy noticed they had finished and came to invite them.

The twinsʼ group nodded. ”Very well. We also have a few questions of our own. Please show the way,” Rean said.

The worker smiled and brought their group to a private room in the back, away from the various eyes on the public side. ”Please, have a seat.”

The twins and Kentucky took a chair each and faced the worker. However, the worker left the next moment, and they had to wait a few minutes until someone else appeared. A woman who seemed to be in her thirties entered the room, also taking a seat in front of the twinsʼ group. She had a cultivation at the Void Tempering Realm Late Stage but seemed to occupy quite a high position in this place. ”So, how about you start it first?” Roan asked.

The woman nodded. ”My name is Zetia, and Iʼm one of the City Hall managers. It came to our attention that you searched some key words in the terminal that are locked out of public sight.”

”The Werdlem Empire?” Roan went straight to the point.

”Yes,” The woman wasnʼt surprised and didnʼt deny it. ”The fact you searched for those words and especially the various other requirements tells us that your group isnʼt from here. You must have come from outside the Divine Realm extreme south. I believe thatʼs how the experts from outside call this place. Or, you must be ascenders.”

”First, let me tell you what we call the extreme south of the Divine Realm. Actually, it is a quite simple name, Divine Snow World. The entire extent of the Divine Snow World is covered, obviously, in snow.”

She continued. ”As for which one you are, Iʼm pretty sure you are ascenders. First, you are in the Peak Stage of the Transition Realm. Thatʼs the realm in which those who ascend from the Mortal World find themselves. Second, suppose you had acquired special permission to enter the Divine Snow World. In that case, you should also have been instructed to never talk about the Werdlem Empire here. Since you did, you obviously didnʼt receive those instructions.”

Rean, Roan, and Kentucky nodded. ”That is correct. We did come from the Mortal World.”

Rean, Roan, and Kentucky nodded. ”That is correct. We did come from the Mortal World.”

Still, they were confused. Zetia was talking about ascension, but there is no such thing as ascension. You would always be teleported to the Divine Realm. They tried to ascend, but they failed when the Mortal Worldʼs Laws stopped them from reaching the Void Tempering Realm. Of course, they wouldnʼt tell her that.

Fortunately, their confusion was cleared with Zetiaʼs next words. ”You probably are wondering why Iʼm talking about ascensions. You must be confused yourselves since you didnʼt even know ascension was possible. As far as it is known, the only way to reach the Divine Realm is to swap your normal Werdlem Stones for Divine Werdlem Stones and then be teleported over, isnʼt that right?”

Rean quickly confirmed. ”You seem to have read our minds. Indeed, we were quite confused ourselves.” That was obviously a lie since they did indeed use the teleport formation. Itʼs just that the system changed their coordinates. Rean wouldnʼt tell her that either.

Zetia smiled. ”There is no need to be confused. If you are here, that is because you have been selected by the Mortal World Laws to ascend as it was supposed to happen instead of being teleported away.”

”Selected?” They grew confused again.

”Indeed,” Zetia continued. ”We donʼt know which rules are followed for those to be selected, but it is a known fact in the Divine Snow World. Those like you are extremely rare. In this city, for example, we donʼt get more than ten per year. For the three of you to arrive together is quite impressive in itself.”

Zetia didnʼt stop. ”Anyway, thatʼs the short explanation of how you ended ascending here. Now, what I called you here for is to introduce you to the Divine Snow World rules. Well, there is pretty much only one rule here you should pay attention to in this place. You must not mention the Werdlem Empire to its residents.”

”Why is that?” Roan asked.

”Who knows?” Zetia shrugged. ”Iʼm only passing the words forward. However, know that breaking this rule will force the Inquisition Hall to make a move. You definitely donʼt want to be on their bad side, trust me.”

”Yes, we know the Inquisition Hall works for the Werdlem Empire and the Supreme Palace. No one would want to antagonize them,” Rean added.

”Itʼs good that you understand,” Zetia was happy to hear that. ”In this city, for example, only two people know about the Werdlem Empire. I am obviously one of them, while the City Lord is the second. I always take the job of speaking to new ascenders. But if Iʼm unavailable, the City Lord himself takes up the mantle.”

Rean then took his CD out, taking the chance to ask. ”Iʼve noticed that no one here uses the CDs. Why is that?”

”Thatʼs the second thing I was going to talk to you. Here, we use the Virtual Soul Device. Well, the name is much bigger than that, but you donʼt really need to know that part. We usually just say VS Device or just VS to make things simple,” Zetia explained. Then, she pulled three small boxes out from her Spatial Ring. ”You can have one each. Just take the content out and put it near your ear. It will crawl inside on its own and then attach itself to the brain. You will understand the rest after you do that.”

”That sounds kinda scary,” Rean pretended to be concerned. ”Well, you can also choose to not do that. Just know that CDs donʼt work here.” Zetia said that, but she was certain they would eventually do that. Living without the VS Device was quite a burden in this place. ”So, any questions?”

Roan had one. ”Yes. Can we leave the Divine Snow World?”
