”You’re the patriarch of the Nine Serene Deep Ground Python Clan?”

Xiao Yan frowned: ”But as far as I know, the current patriarch of the Nine Serene Deep Ground Python Clan is someone called Yao Xiaotian.”

”That bastard... that damn dog! Back then, he used poison and trickery to steal my position, then sealed me at the very bottom of the Nine Serene Spring!”

”Ah—! That beast! He made me endure the torment of this bone-chilling power for hundreds of years! If I ever see daylight again in this lifetime, I, Yao Ming, will make him suffer a fate worse than death! Worse than death, ahhhh—!”

The moment the name Yao Xiaotian entered his ears, Yao Ming’s eyes instantly turned blood-red. Endless hatred surged from them, and his crazed roars echoed through the depths of the Serene Springs without stopping.

Hearing this, Wei Yang and Xiao Yan exchanged a glance, both silently clicking their tongues.

This guy... has been sealed here for hundreds of years?! That was truly a miserable fate.

The icy power of the Nine Serene Spring constantly invaded the body like countless sharp blades. The stabbing pain was comparable to skinning, slicing veins, and scraping bones—torment no ordinary person could endure.

Yet the man before them had endured this agony for centuries. Just imagining it made even Wei Yang and Xiao Yan unconsciously shake their heads. Probably only someone like Yao Ming, a Nine Serene Deep Ground Python, could withstand this.

If it had been either of them, they definitely wouldn’t have lasted this long.

”Can you tell us the backstory between you and Yao Xiaotian?” Xiao Yan asked curiously.

They were from the same clan—how could things reach such cruelty?

”I’m Yao Xiaotian’s eldest brother.”

Yao Ming hesitated briefly before speaking hoarsely: ”Originally, I was the most legitimate candidate for patriarch of the Nine Serene Deep Ground Python Clan. Many of the elders also supported me.”

”Yao Xiaotian had no chance of becoming patriarch. He knew this well, so on the surface he acted respectful toward me. But in the shadows, he plotted his scheme. He poisoned me first, weakening my strength, then struck afterward to defeat me and seal me at the bottom of the Nine Serene Spring.”

Wei Yang and Xiao Yan froze for a moment. As expected, it was yet another cliché story of brothers killing each other for power.

”Why didn’t he just kill you? That would’ve saved him a lot of trouble and ended everything cleanly,” Wei Yang asked.

”Because he didn’t want me to die easily. He wanted me to live a life worse than death! Haha! My dear brother... he really treats his own big brother so well!” Yao Ming let out a hoarse laugh. But that laughter was filled with sorrow, rage, and deep resentment.

Wei Yang and Xiao Yan fell silent.

This...

From their perspective, it was hard to imagine how two blood brothers could hate each other so intensely—so deeply—that things escalated to this level. This wasn’t merely ”not stopping until one side dies.”

It was something far beyond that.

Even Xiao Yan, who had also endured hardship along his journey, had the support of Yao Lao and his senior brother. His two elder brothers, Xiao Ding and Xiao Li, were even willing to risk their lives for him.

So to him, the idea of kin treating each other like this was simply incomprehensible. Even if family didn’t get along, at worst they would go separate ways. How could it reach this level?!

”You want us to rescue you? You should understand that Yao Xiaotian is now the patriarch of the Nine Serene Deep Ground Python Clan. The entire clan is under his control. If you suddenly appear, your fate may not be much better,” Xiao Yan said.

”I possess the Nine Serene Profound Scepter. It is the exclusive symbol of authority for the patriarch of the Nine Serene Deep Ground Python Clan. Only the one who holds the Profound Scepter is the true patriarch. As long as I escape and kill Yao Xiaotian, then I become the new patriarch. The rest of the clan wouldn’t dare lay a hand on me!” Yao Ming said urgently.

”You’re a Two-Star Dou Sheng. What about Yao Xiaotian?” Wei Yang asked.

”When I was sealed, I was only a mid-level Ban Sheng. But after centuries of being tempered by the Serene Spring’ power—although I suffered endless pain—my strength also grew tremendously. Once the seal is removed, my Dou Qi will recover rapidly and return to peak condition!”

Yao Ming continued, ”As for Yao Xiaotian, even though he became patriarch, his cultivation speed is nowhere near as fast as mine while enduring the Serene Spring. Right now, he’s merely a One-Star Dou Sheng.”

”However, he still has a trusted confidant—our Nine Serene Deep Ground Python Clan’s Grand Elder. He’s at the peak of One-Star Dou Sheng. Back then, this old dog also helped Yao Xiaotian seriously injure me and seal me away.”

”As long as you help me break the seal and let me out, once my Dou Qi recovers, I’ll be able to defeat one of them. As for the other, I’ll need your help to deal with him. That way, we can end things quickly.”

”Two One-Star Dou Shengs, huh.” Wei Yang and Xiao Yan secretly nodded.

The Nine Serene Deep Ground Python Clan truly lived up to its deep foundations. Setting aside all the Ban Shengs they possessed, just on the surface alone, there were two genuine Dou Sheng powerhouses.

If they added the Yao Ming in front of them, then the clan had a total of three Dou Shengs. That level of power really was worthy of being one of the top three clans in the Magical Beast Realm, even if they were the weakest of the three.

”My two biggest obstacles are those two. As long as you eliminate them, the entire Nine Serene Deep Ground Python Clan will fall under my control. When that time comes, my whole clan will serve you as our masters. Whatever demands you have, my clan will give our full strength to fulfill!” Yao Ming stared at the two of them, his voice low and resolute.

Wei Yang and Xiao Yan exchanged a glance, their eyes flickering.

If they truly could control the Nine Serene Deep Ground Python Clan, it would be an enormous advantage. Not to mention anything else—just pacifying that clan would relieve a great deal of pressure on Zi Yan.

If they gained control over the Nine Serene Deep Ground Pythons, they could use that power to restrain the Heaven Demon Phoenix Clan. If both clans were tied down, neither would be able to interfere with the internal war of the Ancient Void Dragon Clan.

Thinking through all this, Wei Yang slowly exhaled and fixed his gaze on Yao Ming: ”You make it sound nice, but how are we supposed to trust you?”

Xiao Yan also nodded.

The plan sounded good, but if they really helped him take back the clan and he decided to turn on them afterward, wouldn’t they be the ones getting played?

Hearing Wei Yang’s words, Yao Ming opened his mouth but couldn’t find the right words. It was true—there was no way he could expect two ridiculously young human Dou Shengs to trust him the moment they met.

”With your age and strength, you must be from some super faction in Central Plains. Even if I regain control of the Nine Serene Deep Ground Python Clan, I wouldn’t dare turn against you,” Yao Ming finally said.

”Sure, you wouldn’t dare. But if you refuse to acknowledge us afterward, we may not be able to do anything to you inside your own territory,” Xiao Yan replied lightly.

”But... it’s not like there’s no solution,” Wei Yang said as his figure flashed. He appeared in front of Yao Ming, raising a hand and pointing a finger toward the latter’s forehead.

”Not only can we rescue you and help you quickly recover your Dou Qi, we can even help you reclaim your position as patriarch. But there’s one condition.”

Wei Yang stared straight at Yao Ming, his tone calm and cold: ”You’ll open your soul defenses and let me plant a Soul Imprint in your soul. As long as you’re under my control, there will be no problem.”

Hearing this, Yao Ming’s expression instantly changed.

Having someone plant a Soul Mark inside your soul... being ”controlled” was the least of it. It was no different from placing your life directly in someone else’s hands.
