Beneath the Red Dragon

Chapter 149: Chapter 65: Chosen Laborer_4

”Respected sir, my name is Ron. I’m a blacksmith. I make ordinary weapons and farm tools, and I have two children and a wife,” the middle-aged man pointed out his family members somewhat nervously.

”Very well, stand to the right, next,” the human recorder wrote down the information in the ledger and continued inquiring about the jobs.

Bronze Dragon Alina silently nodded, then shook her head, and suddenly whispered, ”Although the Dragon Group Territory is developing towards order, many aspects are still in a state of chaotic management, with many problems. If I were to do it, I would do it better.”

Red Copper Dragon Alfred chuckled. He indeed hoped this female dragon would stay, as it would give him more time and opportunity to pursue Alina. So he whispered back, ”That civil servant Fafnir doesn’t seem as erudite and profound as you. Maybe you can replace her in governing this city that seems to have great potential.”

Bronze Dragon Alina’s face showed a proud expression, feeling it was natural that her knowledge surpassed that of the local civil servant, Fafnir. It was not only due to the pride of being a dragon but also confidence in her own knowledge.

”Let’s go, I still need to see other situations in the territory. It’s too crowded here, no rush to contact the Dragon Group,” Alina said, full of confidence, summarizing her insights and knowledge.

She planned to make a big impression on the Dragon Group she was about to meet, making them understand how outstanding Alina’s capabilities were.

This class, Bronze Dragon Alina was determined to attend, and no one could stop her!

Alfred and Alina wandered through the city. Even as a dragon, Red Copper Dragon Alfred was somewhat worn out.

Alina grew more excited along the way and always bought any new and interesting things she saw. Red Copper Dragon Alfred became an honorary porter, carrying large bags and packages, enjoying the astonished looks of the city residents.

Finally, Bronze Dragon Alina’s steps stopped in front of a large, spacious building, and Red Copper Dragon Alfred looked through the gaps between the packages he was carrying. Several wooden plaques with large common language characters hung across the archway of the building.

Red Copper Dragon Alfred subconsciously read aloud, ”Giant Dragon Basic Academy, what is this? Is it a place for dragons to study?” Alfred was puzzled, looking at the two stern kobold guards standing beside the academy gate.

”This is a place provided by the Giant Dragon Lord for the territory’s residents to learn and understand knowledge,” Bronze Dragon Alina said dully, looking at the notice board hanging on the wall.

For the first time, Bronze Dragon Alina put on a solemn expression, learning a lot from the notice board.

This Giant Dragon Academy was sponsored by the dragons ruling this place, and any resident wanting to learn could enroll.

Adults only need to spend five coppers to enter the academy’s gate to learn written language and some basic knowledge.

And minors are allowed to enroll for free without bearing any costs.

But they must pledge to serve the territory after completing their studies, with lifetime effect.

If they opt to pay tuition, they can only complete the general language course, as other knowledge won’t be available to them.

In this academy, universal language is taught as the basic language, and other languages like Elven, Giant, and Giant Demon languages must be abandoned.

Only Dragon Language is offered as an advanced elective, reserved for the elite who complete their studies with excellent results and pledge allegiance to the dragons.

With her dragon perception, Alina could see many members in this academy, mostly the descendants of the beloved dragons. Those mischievous kobold and centaur cubs were not exactly compliant in front of the human teachers.

But each human teacher wore a badge made from dragon scales, granting them the strength and courage to firmly suppress any rebellious cubs. Whips made from the most resilient wood in the forest taught a deep lesson to any cubs who dared to challenge the teachers.

There were also quite a few human children, permanent residents within the Giant Dragon Territory, appearing extremely obedient compared to the mischievous kobold and centaur cubs, each with eyes filled with anticipation and admiration looking towards the esteemed teachers.

”It looks like I should revise my plan,” Bronze Dragon Alina’s originally proud heart settled down. She realized the lord of this place clearly had a plan for the future kingdom. The chaotic management was merely due to the rapid expansion and lack of manpower, a minor issue.

Dong, dong, dong,

The heavy bell tolled, and the quiet academy suddenly bustled like a group of wild horses let loose, with countless cubs running, jumping, and frolicking out of the classrooms, playing in the academy’s square.

Occasionally, a few bold cubs attempted to dash out of the academy to the streets, only to be beaten back by the dogman soldiers guarding the entrance. As they were being hit, the soldiers mumbled, ”I told you not to mess around. Always thinking of playing, you’ll end up like me, being a doorkeeper.”

At this moment, a tall figure emerged from within the academy. It was a majestic centaur warrior, covered in fine scale armor, showcasing his noble status as a Dragon Descendant.

The kobold guards at both sides promptly saluted, saying, ”Lord Chiron, you’ve worked hard.”

The centaur warrior Chiron nodded expressionlessly and stepped out.

Red Copper Dragon Alfred seemed to see a savior, quickly shouting, ”Chiron, Chiron, come over, it’s me, Alfred.”

The centaur warrior wanted to pretend not to recognize Red Copper Dragon Alfred, but he knew the Red Copper Dragon was a friend of his master. Moreover, as an Extraordinary High Tier being, identifying individuals was easy since the aura of each creature had a unique signature. Thus, he had no choice but to walk over reluctantly.

”Lord Alfred, what brings you here at this time? My master would surely be very pleased with your arrival.”

Bam, Red Copper Dragon Alfred hastily dumped all the large and small packages onto the centaur, even hanging some especially heavy ones on the centaur warrior’s broad back.

Then, catching his breath, he said, ”I was curious about how Karon governs his territory, so I came to have a look, and at the same time, accompanied this erudite, territory-governing lady with unique insights,”

”Alina will showcase her talents here, and I believe the Dragon Group will welcome her. But Chiron, you are such a powerful warrior, why are you in this place? Do you need to study as well?” Red Copper Dragon Alfred pretended not to notice the expression on the centaur warrior’s face as he said this.

”Patrolling, patrolling,” Chiron continued expressionlessly, ”The dragons value this highly. I must manage this place well for the esteemed True Dragons to prevent these foolish kobolds from making mistakes.”

Before Alfred could continue, Chiron said directly, ”Since you are already here, let me lead you two distinguished True Dragons to the Dragon Nest. You even brought gifts with you, which will surely please Lord Karon and the other dragons.”

Red Copper Dragon Alfred was immediately shocked, sneaking a glance at Bronze Dragon Alina’s expression. The young female dragon let out a low hum.

Red Copper Dragon Alfred hesitated, stopped, and hesitated again, finally unable to speak, only following the centaur in frustration towards the Dragon Nest.
