Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 241: Chapter 168: Sea Song

As the Song of the Sea stopped sailing, the Star Jump also came to a halt.

People carefully observed the Song of the Sea. During the two years it was missing, countless rescue teams from Pen Island and Mid Country were sent out, but none could find a trace of the Song of the Sea.

On the day the Song of the Sea disappeared, the sea was calm, with no typhoon or storm, and there were no reefs or icebergs along its route.

Except for a fog that rose on the day of its voyage, there was nothing unusual.

Many hypotheses have been made about the Song of the Sea’s existence, such as encountering a giant ocean vortex and sinking to the bottom of the sea, or accidentally entering something like the Bermuda Square and being trapped inside, unable to escape...

Yet the Song of the Sea now appearing before everyone shows no signs of collision damage, seeming as though it hadn’t encountered a maritime disaster or traversed dangerous waters.

There is no sense of living beings aboard, yet the ship is brightly lit, having been sailing towards them just minutes ago.

If there are no living people, then who is steering the ship?

With this thought, the passengers aboard the Star Jump instinctively held their breath, as if the slightest noise from breathing would alert the ghosts lingering on the Song of the Sea to them.

People were eager to avoid the suddenly appearing Song of the Sea, urging the captain to leave quickly. But the captain insisted on approaching the Song of the Sea.

”The ship’s communication system is severely damaged. We must board the Song of the Sea and check if its communication system is functional. Even if it isn’t, we can at least remove undamaged parts and attempt to repair our system.”

Faced with the captain’s reasoning, the crowd could not refuse.

Having just experienced a whole day of Ghost Wall, they understood their predicament clearly.

Stranded in the vast ocean and cut off from the outside world, continuing like this might make them the next Song of the Sea.

After a brief struggle, the passengers could only agree to the captain’s decision.

But another problem arose.

Who will go?

Even the bravest crew wouldn’t dare set foot on this eerie ghost ship. Just as people hesitated, Wu Chang had already set up a simple board and boarded the Song of the Sea.

After Wu Chang, Li Yubin followed closely behind. This Song of the Sea, missing for two years, involves the lives of thousands and exactly what happened two years ago—she, as a reporter, certainly wouldn’t pass up such big news.

Seeing Wu Chang and Li Yubin board the Song of the Sea consecutively, Park Changmin, who should be performing exorcism next, pointed out five priests to go investigate the Song of the Sea.

One person going to the ghost ship is seeking death; many going at once becomes an adventure.

Especially since Park Changmin kept saying the Lord will bless them, making some already bold passengers hot-headedly board the ship.

Among these passengers were players of the Abyssal Game.

With such massive clues right before them, they couldn’t sit still any longer and took advantage of the crowd to board the ship.

The sight of people bravely heading to search the Song of the Sea moved and shamed the crew. After the shame, they turned their heads, looking at the similarly shamed repair engineers, their minds momentarily blanked.

”Wait, come back! You didn’t bring the engineers!”

The first to board the Song of the Sea, Wu Chang, had already begun investigating the situation aboard.

He entered the cabin, a layer of thick dust accumulating on the floor and tables. Except for the footprints of him and a few followers, there were no other traces on the floor.

The place had been abandoned for a long time, with no one entering during that period.

His goal was to investigate the resentment aboard, so he bypassed the cargo hold and began his investigation in the area where the passenger cabins were located.

Upon entering the cabin area, the arrangement inside was chaotic, with tables and chairs scattered everywhere as if a riot had occurred.

After a few steps, he saw a room near the corridor, its door violently destroyed, the inside in disarray, with dried, black blood stains on the ceiling and floor, along with a faint resentment that seemed ready to dissipate at any moment.

Wu Chang’s gaze fell upon the resentment, which transformed into a ball of flame. The flickering flame took him back to the day the resentment’s owner died.

Through the corridor window, he saw a massive flame igniting on the deck.

People gathered around the flame, chanting strange spells—not Gao Mu language nor Mid Country language, but an ancient, awkward-sounding language.

Though he didn’t understand, he inexplicably knew the meaning of those spells.

People were celebrating the food bestowed upon them by the Lord.

The crowd praying around the flames were all bare-chested, each emaciated to the bone; their ribs were visible when they stood upright, and their spines protruded clearly when they bent over.

This was a symbol of enduring hunger and fairness; the ship’s food had run out for many days, and people showed their hunger by being bare-chested, proving that they hadn’t stashed away any food.

Seeing everyone’s emaciated bodies triggered a mouthwatering taste—it was the taste of fish soup.

Following the taste in his mouth, his mind flashed a scene—it was the day before yesterday when the skinny man next door, driven mad by hunger, took out the last quarter of a hardtack from his clothes pocket.

Before the skinny man could digest it after eating, his slightly bulging belly was noticed by others.

To punish the selfish sin of hoarding food, people cut open the skinny man, chopped his internal organs and flesh, and threw them into the sea to fish.

The fish in this sea seemed especially fond of eating sinners’ flesh.

The bait attracted dozens of large fish, yet people were so weak that only four fish were caught.
