Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 42: Chapter 41: Sword and Shield

Su Huan directly put the Pan-energy Crystal into his pocket.

In times like this, concentrating resources on one person is more effective than spreading them out.

”There will be more zombies for you to extract later, but let’s get the river crabs out first. We might have a river crab feast tonight.” Su Huan sniffed the unique aquatic scent of the river crabs in the air.

Wan Xing picked out the tender meat from the crab claws and placed it on the table beside him, nodding, ”That’s about right, this crab has been dealt with for a long time.”

Turning his head, Liang Kuan had already put on a work jacket and a pair of tactical boots, and took down a riot shield from the wall.

Su Huan pinched his chin, ”I suggest you find the weapon you’re most comfortable with; it might affect your skills and profession later.”

Defenders are different from other Evolvers, with a significant portion of their skills being weapon specialization.

Like a ”Firepower Hand” talent Defender, making him play with cold weapons every day, evolving would be a miracle.

In the previous life, Liang Kuan made his name with a short stick, being fierce and valiant.

Liang Kuan weighed the riot shield in his hand, but didn’t put it down, then picked a handy baton from the wall.

He swung it twice in the air, producing a whistling that was surprisingly powerful.

”Let’s stick with this.” Liang Kuan’s tone was somewhat regretful.

”You want hot weapons?”

”No, I can’t use them.”

”Then if you need any cold weapons, you can tell Yu Jing, have her design it, and let Xiaoba make it for you.” Su Huan put on an ice silk jacket.

Liang Kuan caressed the sides of the riot shield, ”I feel this is just right, but it would be better if both sides were sharper.”

Su Huan raised an eyebrow, ”Sword and shield?”

...

An hour later.

Dozens of zombies pounded against the iron door of carriage No. 2, making a clattering noise, but apart from leaving a few bloody handprints, they had no effect.

Suddenly, the dark iron door opened inward.

The zombies, which had been somewhat scattered, suddenly became interested and crowded forward, trying to climb aboard the train.

”Bang!”

A large tactical boot kicked out.

The head of the foremost zombie was kicked off directly, tumbling backward.

A one-meter-long metal shield came down with a terrifying whoosh, and with the crisp sound of a watermelon breaking, the nearest three zombies fell under the train.

A burly figure squeezed out from the carriage, and even through the jacket, one could feel the muscular bulk and tough aura.

His short hair bristled like needles, his beard clinging to his cheeks like armor.

He twisted his neck, raised the shield like a giant axe, and charged down.

”Bang bang bang——”

A series of dense thuds mixed with the zombies’ whimpering growls.

A young man with blood-red lips and pearly teeth stepped out, squinting at the sky and exclaimed, ”The weather’s really nice today, perfect for getting to work.”

A chilling cold emitted from his body, unaffected by the thirty-plus-degree temperature.

Even though the low temperature was energy-wasting, the heat would greatly affect his reaction and body, making it not worth conserving energy at this time.

Su Huan jumped off the train, followed by Xiaoba’s wheelchair, which hovered in the air and slowly descended.

Looking at Liang Kuan surrounded by more and more zombies in the distance, Xiaoba showed a trace of worry, ”Really don’t need help?”

Su Huan glanced at him, ”Of course... not possible, if Old Liang gets taken down, who’s gonna drive the train?”

While the two spoke, Liang Kuan had already rushed far ahead, confronting dozens of ordinary zombies by himself.

Although his fighting style was ferociously aggressive, zombies weren’t afraid of pain.

Unless they’re incapacitated in one strike, they’ll always get up.

A zombie weighs at least 130 to 140 pounds, even with Liang Kuan’s natural strength, after killing more than a dozen, he was slightly out of breath.

”Puff!”

A sharp spike abruptly extended from the metal shield, helping Liang Kuan stab a sneak-attacking one to death.

Noise came from behind, as many leftover zombies followed, and quite a few fragmented ones under the train struggled to crawl out.

Su Huan snapped his fingers, catching Xiaoba’s attention.

”I’ll head to Liang Kuan’s side, you clean up the zombies behind and establish temporary defenses, we’re off the train here today.”

”Got it!” Xiaoba nodded heavily, his eyes taking on a metallic hue. The next moment, the triangular metal strips on the side of the armored train extended over three meters like a riot, directly slashing over a dozen zombies.

Su Huan shook his head, muttering, ”That’s savage...”

Xiaoba’s combat capability was near Tier One, and in the train, just with Level 1 ”Metal Control,” he could easily slay all Tier One zombies.

Su Huan walked forward, harvesting zombies that couldn’t get up due to broken bones with high-temperature bullets.

Ahead, bones snapped, tendons tore, and blood splattered.

Only a faint smell of charred flesh surrounded him.

When he got beside Liang Kuan, he simply stopped pretending, not lifting a finger, as high-temperature bullets flew from his exposed skin in all directions.

Ordinary zombies were effortlessly reaped by him.

Currently, his Pan-energy Transformation efficiency was 20%, meaning with the same high-temperature bullets, he could save half of the energy.

Plus, having been absorbing Pan-energy Crystals recently, his internal energy had significantly increased.

Plenty sufficient to kill all these zombies.

Liang Kuan stood firm with his shield, watching the zombies around him fall like wheat, a flicker of awe in his eyes.

”How did the battle just now feel?”

Su Huan casually asked.

Liang Kuan hesitated for a moment, ”Felt great, but not great enough.”

Su Huan raised an eyebrow, ”Then I’ll find you something more thrilling to face, let’s go.”

Liang Kuan hurried to catch up.

The two walked along the railway.

Previously, Yu Yue judged there was a train 500 meters ahead.

Increasing and braking speed had used up at least 300 meters, the train should be nearby.

It needed to be dispatched in advance, or it would block the way, and the armored train couldn’t proceed.

Turning a big bend, they indeed saw the train ahead.

Surrounded by scattered debris and corpses, many gnawed to pieces, without even a chance to become zombies.

Sparse zombies came forth.

Su Huan patted Liang Kuan’s blood-stained shoulder, making a squelching sound, a wicked smile with double meaning on his face, ”Go enjoy yourself.”

Liang Kuan’s face twitched, picked up the large shield, and charged forward.

Su Huan followed behind, leisurely observing the various details.

Occasionally using a high-temperature bullet to alleviate Liang Kuan’s crisis.

Leading the fight smoother, Liang Kuan simply abandoned the shield’s defensive function, instead using it as a great axe, while Su Huan spared some focus to specifically cover his blind spots.

The two reached the side of the train directly.
