Affinity: Chaos

Chapter 1749: He Did It

Grey stood on the platform with a calm expression, his eyes staring at the young lady who was currently lying unconscious on the platform.

The entire arena was deadly silent, not a single individual making any noise. They almost couldnʼt believe their eyes, although they speculated something like this would happen two minutes ago when Grey started to gain the advantage in the fight, but they still almost couldnʼt believe it. A Sixth stage Sovereign has just defeated a Ninth stage Sovereign, and he did it after exhausting the other party.

It wouldʼve been more believable if Grey beat her with one of his powerful methods, but against such a powerful opponent, none of Greyʼs methods worked. When Grey almost caught the young lady off-guard a few times, they already felt he had done more than enough since there was no one else in the Aurora Continent that could not only hold on against such an opponent but even have the chance to counterattack in such a manner. Yet Grey did it on several occasions, while also keeping himself safe from her attacks.

”He actually did it...”

The crowd was shocked, caught between excitement and disbelief. The fight was something they looked forward to, and it definitely didnʼt disappoint. Although Grey wasnʼt as dominant as his previous battles, he was still able to defeat his opponent after a long battle. This was a testament to his incredible strength.

A moment later, cheers broke out across the entire arena. Even the Elders applauded Greyʼs performance. This was an eye-opener for most of the people here.

Grey heaved a sigh of relief before turning to look at the Elder, who was still in a state of shock. He hadnʼt even announced the winner of the battle even though he could clearly see that the young lady was already unconscious.

Seeing the Elder still gawking at him, Grey coughed lightly to draw the attention of the Elder back to the present world.

The Elder quickly came back to and looked at Grey, his expression very dignified as he announced the result of the fight. The cheers were even louder with him announcing Grey as the winner.

Grey confirmed if he didnʼt need to stay any longer since he had already challenged two people, and after getting confirmation, he left the arena and went back to his temporary residence in the Pyro Faction and started to recuperate. Although he didnʼt look like it, the truth was he, too, was close to exhaustion. The young lady refused to surrender even when Grey already had the advantage, making him expend a lot more energy than he thought he would.

The young lady wasnʼt completely exhausted, Grey knew not to go that far, so seeing that she wasnʼt willing to surrender, he quickly made sure to knock her out. Since she could barely put up any resistance, there was no way she could evade it. Now, he needed to rest.

In the Elderʼs area.

Faction Leader Bertram had been a bit optimistic about Greyʼs chances, after all, the gap between an Eighth stage Sovereign and a Ninth stage Sovereign was by no means small. Grey could defeat an Eighth stage Sovereign which was already outstanding, but he felt that was his limit, never would he have ever thought that Grey had already grown to this extent. ʼSeems like I still underestimated him.ʼ

His heart was racing with excitement, he might be shocked, but that didnʼt hide the joy in his heart. Being the Faction Leader of such a character meant that in the future, the Pyrmond Faction might have a chance to rise to the top of the Aurora Continent, becoming the number one Faction.

Over the past few years, with Greyʼs rising popularity, a lot of people have been drawn to the Pyrmond Faction. Theyʼve been able to recruit more geniuses in the past two years than they have in the past hundred years. This alone is enough benefit for them.

Although Grey was quite popular in the Aurora Continent, heʼs also rarely seen. Other than the occasional appearances in the Dawson Family, Grey is almost always traveling. If heʼs not traveling, then heʼs in retreat, trying to improve his strength.

The crowd soon started to talk about Greyʼs battle enthusiastically. Now that the battle was over, they took the time to go over each detail of the battle and then they started to realize how absurd Grey truly was.

The attack Grey used when his water blade burst apart and turned into water butterflies and continued the attack was an indication of his high control over his elemental essence. Most Elementalists have no issues with changing the direction of an attack even after theyʼve unleashed it, but changing the entire attack was a whole different matter. Even some Peak Sovereigns wouldnʼt dare to say that they could achieve the same result. Manipulating an already-unleashed attack is another level of genius that some of these youths had never seen

before.

Grey got the idea to practice this during his last retreat. He was inspired by the new inscribing method he learned from the Lyttelton Family, and since his control over his essence has always been good, he decided to practice it. To his shock, it wasnʼt too difficult for him. Of course, once the attack is changed, it occasionally loses some of its initial strength, but the unexpectedness of it is enough to offset the reduced strength. Anyone who receives such an attack will be left flustered as they wouldʼve felt that their attack would deal with it, not giving them enough time to react.

The only reason the young lady was able to come out unscathed even after Grey used a two- pronged attack was due to her overwhelming strength compared to him. An Eighth stage Sovereign might not be able to avoid serious injuries if faced with such a sudden attack, much less leave unscathed.

After Greyʼs battle, no one else challenged anyone. They all knew each otherʼs strengths, and if not for Grey who challenged someone in a higher position, there would not have been a change from how these people previously arranged themselves.
