Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close

Anna Nash entered Caleb Blackwood’s office while he was working. He already disliked this woman, and seeing her barge in without even knocking only confirmed his belief that she was utterly unworthy of marrying into the Blackwood family.

”Don’t you know how to knock? Did your mother not teach you any manners?” Caleb Blackwood’s tone was sharp with irritation.

”I thought you didn’t need to knock when entering your own home. Right, Director Blackwood? Or perhaps, should I start calling you Dad?”

’We’ll be family soon anyway, so there’s no harm in calling him Dad now. After all, Silas is my husband.’

”You haven’t married into the Blackwood family yet!” Caleb Blackwood’s face was stern, his eyes narrowing to reveal a sharp, piercing gaze.

”I think it’s only a matter of time, don’t you? I’m carrying Silas’s child now. Even if you don’t like me, the baby will at least have Blackwood blood.”

Disgust filled Caleb Blackwood’s eyes, yet there was nothing he could do to Anna Nash at that moment.

’How could Anna Nash be so arrogant? So brazen, right to my face!’

’Does she really think she can do whatever she wants just because she’s pregnant?’

”What is it you really want?” Impatience edged Caleb Blackwood’s voice.

”Well, I was thinking, since you’ve already accepted me as your daughter-in-law, shouldn’t we set a time for me to come over for a family dinner? We could discuss the wedding details then.”

”You think you’re worthy of marrying into our family?” Caleb Blackwood had never been threatened like this in his life.

’Even if Anna Nash is destined to marry in, it won’t be that easy.’

”My son won’t be happy if he hears you speaking about his mother like that. And if, God forbid, something were to happen to him... I can always get pregnant again, but as for Silas...”

Caleb Blackwood gripped the pen in his hand so tightly it nearly bent in two. His eyes were terrifyingly intense, but Anna Nash remained unfazed.

”Director Blackwood, since I’m going to be marrying into the family eventually, the engagement with Ivy Sherwood is off, I assume? I heard her side returned the betrothal gifts, so the Blackwood family doesn’t owe her anything, right? If there are any outstanding conflicts, I’d like to resolve them before the wedding. It would be quite a scene if things got ugly on my wedding day.” Anna Nash was probing.

”That is none of your concern,” Caleb Blackwood said coldly.

”Anna Nash, cut the petty schemes. I will settle this score with you, little by little, in the future!”

’It’s not so easy to marry into the Blackwood family, and it’s even harder to be a Blackwood wife.’

’Once Anna Nash has the baby, I’ll make her pay!’

Anna Nash said, ”I’m confident you’ll all see my good qualities. I don’t see how I’m any worse than Ivy Sherwood. Why was she good enough, but I’m not?”

Just then, the secretary knocked and entered, carrying the juice Anna Nash had requested.

”Who told you to make juice?” Caleb Blackwood was looking for someone to take his anger out on.

”I... It was Miss Nash, she...” the secretary stammered, trying to explain.

”Is she your boss, or am I? Does she pay your salary?”

”I’m sorry, Director Blackwood.” The secretary was frightened by his demeanor.

”Show her out,” Caleb Blackwood ordered curtly.

”Yes, Director Blackwood.” The secretary, not daring to offend Caleb Blackwood, turned to Anna Nash. ”This way, please, Miss Nash.”

Anna Nash grabbed her handbag and left Caleb Blackwood’s office.

Although Anna Nash hadn’t mentioned the ashes, she had probed him on the matter. It seemed Caleb Blackwood had no intention of handing them over.

But she had to get them. She decided to go to the Blackwood estate right away; perhaps Caleb Blackwood kept them hidden somewhere there.

...

At the Blackwood estate, both Silas Blackwood and Mrs. Blackwood were at the hospital, leaving only Sylvia Blackwood at home.

Of course, Sylvia Blackwood knew what had happened to Silas Blackwood, but she never imagined it was all Anna Nash’s doing.

She and Anna Nash had actually been on good terms. Or perhaps it was more accurate to say that Anna knew how to get on people’s good side. She had always flattered Sylvia, saying exactly what she wanted to hear, so Sylvia had thought she was a great person.

’Who could have imagined Anna would do something like this just to marry into the family?’

’Even though I’m a Blackwood, I’m nothing like Silas in this family. My very existence was for him. When he was sick as a child, he was treated with the cord blood from my birth.’

’My life is comfortable, but I’m nothing compared to Silas. He has so many company shares, and Father includes him in everything, while I have nothing.’

’But my relationship with Silas is good. My brother has always taken great care of me.’

So when she heard Anna Nash had arrived, Sylvia Blackwood stormed out of her room, marched right up to her, and slapped her hard across the face. ”You bitch!”

Anna Nash cupped her cheek. ”I think ’sister-in-law’ would be a more appropriate way to address me.”

”You have the nerve to show your face here? My brother is still in the hospital!”

”And why shouldn’t I be here? Your brother being in the hospital has nothing to do with me. You, on the other hand... you’re his sister, yet you’re not there to see him. Or perhaps you’re just hoping he never comes back? Or that he never has children? That way, everything the Blackwood family has would be yours.”

”You’re lying! I never thought that!”

”Who knows what you really think? Aren’t you the one who stands to gain the most right now, Sylvia Blackwood? And don’t you look at me like that. Relax. I’ll be a much better sister-in-law than Ivy Sherwood ever was. We’re sisters, you and I.”

As she spoke, Anna Nash reached out to touch Sylvia Blackwood’s shoulder.

Sylvia Blackwood flinched away. ”Who’s sisters with you? You’re just like that Ivy Sherwood—nothing but a bitch!”

’She used to hate Ivy Sherwood, but at least Ivy never stooped to such despicable tactics. Anna has outright ruined her brother!’

Anna Nash began to wander around the house as if she owned the place, even starting to head upstairs. Sylvia blocked her. ”Who gave you permission to go upstairs?”

Anna Nash simply pushed her aside. ”I’m moving in soon anyway. Is there a problem with me taking a tour?”

”This is my home, and I forbid you from moving in,” Sylvia Blackwood said, livid. She even looked like she was about to push Anna.

Anna Nash didn’t budge. ”Go on, push me. If something happens to this baby, do you think your brother and our parents will let you off the hook?”

’Things have already come to this. If I can’t be happy, then no one gets to be.’

Sylvia didn’t dare to move. She could only watch as Anna Nash went upstairs, looking around here and there, even entering her parents’ bedroom.

The very thought of Anna Nash moving in, of having to see that face every day, made her furious.

...

It was already evening by the time Ivy Sherwood arrived at the hospital. After leaving the coffee shop, she had gone to the supermarket to buy some groceries and then went home to cook a meal.

She had also sent a message to the butler, telling him not to prepare dinner.

Ivy Sherwood cooked several dishes and also prepared a soup.

She had simmered the chicken soup for several hours until the meat was exceptionally tender. The rich, fragrant aroma of the chicken filled the air. Ivy Sherwood poured it into a thermal container and brought it to the hospital.

The butler had already informed Quentin Blackwood that she told him not to prepare dinner. Quentin guessed what this meant and had been waiting at the hospital ever since.

However, he waited for a long time, but Ivy Sherwood still hadn’t arrived.
