When She Stops Being Dramatic

Chapter 123: Chapter 62: Top Star of the 1960s Cultural Troupe (1)

Sister Yun couldn’t help but shiver again. ”You’re asking me?” she said faintly. ”Who am I supposed to ask?”

”It was all his fault for being such a delectable young thing. I couldn’t resist robbing the cradle, and it ruined my lifelong reputation!”

”My first time... given away just like that, in a complete daze...”

The problem was her heart. Even now, it was still adrift, refusing to be reeled back in.

She had no idea how this love thing had such staying power. They’d become like an old married couple, yet she was still so attached.

She thought that if she loved one person with all her heart, lived out a full life in earnest, and had everything go her way, she wouldn’t have any regrets. She thought she could just leave that world and start fresh!

But now, she just wanted to cry...

Her agent could understand how she felt.

Sister Yun was a big shot at the Space-Time Administration Bureau—their undisputed top agent. Besides her formidable professional skills, she was also known for being incredibly chaste. Forget sleeping her way to the top; she still had her first on-screen kiss. Many people secretly called her an old prude.

She had been in countless productions, acting opposite innumerable outstanding, ethereal male leads and supporting characters, yet she had always held her ground. She stuck to the career-focused plotline, never getting mixed up in matters of the heart.

Who would have thought she’d one day crash and burn so spectacularly, and for it to be her who made the first move...

”Maybe I was still groggy when they sent me into that world. I wasn’t mentally prepared, so my head wasn’t on straight.”

How else could she explain it? In the mission she just finished, she’d become completely shallow, content to live an unambitious, domestic life of a doting wife and mother.

”But Sister Yun, the ratings for this show broke all the records, so the higher-ups aren’t holding you accountable for dismantling the official couple,” her agent said, handing over a file. Behind the plot summary were the performance metrics for the mission, all of which had skyrocketed beautifully!

That’s right. Wang Xianbing and Lin Jin had tormented each other for years until their feelings were finally exhausted. They then quickly started their own separate families, a far cry from the original plot.

Sister Yun had gotten completely swept up in the drama.

Naturally, the off-screen audience also found that watching the male and female leads in a love-hate relationship was far more exciting than seeing them all lovey-dovey. Having Zhu Yun and Chu Shenyu as the token sweet couple was enough!

After reveling in the data for a moment, Sister Yun frowned. ”Mingxing, do you think people have souls after they die?”

The agent was sharp as a tack; a quick glance was all it took for her to understand what Sister Yun was getting at.

”Sister Yun, let’s put aside the question of whether souls exist after death. The worlds we enter for our productions are just minor worlds.”

”As you know, above the minor worlds are the small, medium, and Great Thousand Worlds. The probability of encountering the same person or the same thing again is minuscule.”

Sister Yun’s heart clenched. This was the very reason she constantly had to remind herself of that fact.

She was nowhere near as detached as she let on. A lifetime could feel so long, yet it passed in the blink of an eye.

’But once a mark is left on your heart, how long does it take to fade away?’

But she had long been preparing for retirement. All she had to do was complete the retirement missions assigned by the Space-Time Administration Bureau. Once her accumulated points passed the required threshold, she could apply for a transfer to a behind-the-scenes position. She wouldn’t have to wander from world to world, being gawked at and pointed at like some stupid monkey on display.

And she wouldn’t have to worry about being foolish enough to give her heart and soul away again, only to come back and cry alone in secret.

”Mingxing, how many more missions do I have to do?” Sister Yun asked wearily, thinking about how she’d spent decades in a single world only to earn a pittance of points.

Her agent simply replied profoundly, ”Sister Yun, haste makes waste.”

”However,” she hesitated, then held out her wrist and tapped it a few times. A mission board materialized in front of them, pulsing with real-time missions from the Space-Time Administration Bureau. ”Sister Yun, for some reason, historical dramas have become incredibly popular lately, but not many agents are taking those missions.”

Sister Yun nodded in agreement. ”Those settings are too austere. Everyone wants to reap the rewards without sowing the seeds; no one wants to be the one breaking new ground.”

Mingxing reached out and tapped a mission highlighted in red at the very top. ”So, to encourage people, the Bureau has created a special custom series of historical drama missions. Once you accept, you have to complete every single one. You can’t quit halfway through.”

”As long as you satisfy the audience and the ratings are good, the points and rewards are absolutely massive. It’s comparable to the points you’d get for slogging through eight or ten normal missions!”

Sister Yun’s eyes lit up. She quickly tapped the mission to read the details. The requirements seemed simple. Because it was a custom historical series, each world was carefully selected to prevent the ”actors” from improvising too much—like her recent stunt of dismantling an official couple. This mission came with one very strict condition.
