Chapter 2529: Chapter 2530: Shocking Upheaval in the Castle

The story of Golos has come to an end.

In simple terms, Modia took a liking to Golos when she was very young, but for various reasons, she didn’t get him right away. Perhaps because of this, Golos became an obsession for her, and even though nearly a decade has passed, she hasn’t completely let go.

”So, childhood friends turned into forced possession,” Dox concluded, rubbing his chin with his right hand, with a face that said ”I understand now.”

Golos shivered slightly in response, ”... Modia and I weren’t childhood friends; I just saw her a few times when I was young.”

Dox ignored Golos’s answer and continued to mutter to himself, ”This seems like a classic case from those runaway husband series of novels that witches love.”

Golos continued to tremble, weakly saying, ”... I didn’t run away.”

Dox still didn’t look at Golos, but his eyes lit up, as if a light bulb was flickering on his face: ”No wonder the Princess told you before, either become one with her or become her pet. It seems she truly loves you.”

Golos’s face suddenly froze, looking at Dox in disbelief: ”H-How did you know about that, sir?”

Dox finally answered, smiling, ”I was watching from the side at the time. She was much gentler with you than that brat who called himself the Demon King.”

Hearing this, Golos’s face turned a bit pale, and his lips began to tremble.

Angel glanced at Golos’s expression, then at Dox’s bizarre use of the word ”gentle,” and he roughly understood that this gentleness might not be what it seems.

”Speaking of which, for you to resist her temptations and treatment without submitting really makes me look at you differently,” Dox gave Golos a meaningful look and said.

Angel, hearing this, somewhat understood why Dox’s previous evaluation of Golos was: interesting.

It must have been because of witnessing this scene.

But Golos, who was rarely praised by Dox, showed no sign of joy. He lowered his head, drooping his eyebrows, and murmured in an almost inaudible voice, ”I didn’t consider submitting... But with Bruiser right next to me, he didn’t choose to submit either. How could I beg for pity? Besides, I don’t want to expose how fragile I really am inside in front of others...”

Golos’s whispered words brought a hint of emotion to the atmosphere.

Lady Melo looked at Golos, whose eyes turned slightly red, initially not wanting to comment, but eventually she softly consoled, ”You’ve done very well.”

Angel didn’t speak, but he also agreed with Lady Melo’s words.

Is Golos’s heart truly fragile? Angel didn’t know what exactly happened at the time, but Dox’s evaluation suggested that to him, Golos had achieved a level of ”being looked at differently.”

Even if Golos, as he said, tried to hide his inner vulnerability or didn’t want Bruiser to look down on him, from a results-oriented perspective, at the very least, he held out to the end, which is enough.

”Tsk tsk tsk, crying now, how unsightly,” Dox disrupted the quiet atmosphere at the right moment, ”Actually, that brat who loved to call himself the Demon King performed even better than you, but I wasn’t as interested in him. It’s because you exude the flavor of an Ivory Tower good child from the inside out, and your contrast made me look at you differently. But now, it seems I was wrong; the Ivory Tower is still the Ivory Tower.”

Hearing Dox’s words, Golos immediately took a deep breath, forcefully suppressing the acrid emotions in his chest.

But Dox still shook his head lightly, ”Not interesting anymore.”

This sentence was directed at Angel, who understood his meaning. Dox was preparing to change his evaluation of Golos from ”a bit interesting” to ”not interesting.”

But was it really because Golos’s eyes turned red that Dox said it was not interesting?

Angel thought, probably not.

Most likely, it was just that the gossip was over, curiosity had been satisfied, and boredom set in. It’s like those whose desires are easily fulfilled; once sated, they leave without sentiment.

As for Golos, who was consumed... he would probably remember Dox’s words for a long, long time, perhaps feeling a lingering discomfort even until his death if he were a bit more sensitive.

However, Angel didn’t intend to explain Dox’s behavior. In his opinion, it might do Golos good to be dealt such a blow.

Golos’s heart might indeed be sensitive and fragile, but receiving such a shock from Dox might make him remember Dox’s words in the face of similar situations in the future. Then, he would grit his teeth and, like now, bear it, and pretend to be strong.

”Since your story is finished, you can leave now.” Angel looked at Golos.

Golos hesitated for a moment, ”Sir, may I say a few more words?”

Angel did not refuse, gesturing for him to speak.

”I really am not that familiar with Modia. If her Knight guards hadn’t approached me, I wouldn’t even remember such a person. So, we are definitely not childhood friends.”

”Also, I don’t think Modia likes me as much as this gentleman said. She asked me to choose: either become one with her or become her pet.”

”Neither of these were good choices. Becoming one with her sounded like a metaphor, but in my opinion, she might mean it literally. As long as I was consumed by her, it would count as becoming one. As for becoming a pet, wouldn’t that mean letting her do whatever she pleases with me?”

After explaining that there was indeed no ambiguous relationship with Modia, Golos also apologized, expressing a sense of guilt.

Golos: ”Then I’ll take my leave now, I’ll go take care of Bruiser. He... is actually very good.”

After saying ”go take care of Bruiser,” Golos paused for a short while, as if wanting to say something, but in the end, he only managed to stammer out ”he is very good” before leaving.

”Saying only half of what he means, so weird,” Dox shook his head and sighed, ”I thought I’d hear some gossip about that brat who loves calling himself the Demon King, but he left without saying anything.”

”You’ve had enough of the show, do you really need that little bit of gossip?” Angel replied casually.

Dox shrugged, saying nothing more.

At this moment, Angel turned to look at Lady Melo, ”After listening to Golos’s story, do you have any comments?”

Lady Melo thought for a moment, ”An absurd play. However, happening in the Gumman Kingdom, it’s somewhat understandable.”

Angel: ”I meant, do you think the Princess’s obsession is desperate enough to drag down Golos at all costs, even involving you all?”

Lady Melo pondered for a moment, ”I don’t know; it doesn’t seem like we would be pulled in at first glance, but the Princess’s character is quite strange, maybe she really could do something like that.”

Angel: ”She hasn’t met with you after imprisoning you, has she?”

Lady Melo nodded, ”Apart from Bruiser, Golos, and the injured Amisha, none of us have seen the Princess.”

Angel thought aloud, ”That’s also very strange; she looks like she genuinely doesn’t care who you are.”

Lady Melo: ”Maybe it’s really just her personality.”

Angel looked over at Dox, wanting to ask for his opinion.

However, Dox put on an innocent face, ”I’ve already said everything I have to say before. I have no opinion on her, and I don’t know the situation behind this matter.”

Dox spoke with certainty, but Angel didn’t believe him at all. Dox must have discovered something in the Princess Castle, otherwise why did he mention ”immediate interests” before and urge Angel to confront the Princess?

However, since Dox was unwilling to speak, Angel didn’t press further. The truth here would eventually surface. If necessary, sending Dororo would surely uncover something.

Shortly after Dox finished speaking, Lady Melo suddenly said, ”Oh, Old Porter is out.”

Following Lady Melo’s gaze, Angel indeed saw Old Porter approaching from the direction of the back hall.

Angel exhaled, ”Forget it. Let others investigate this. Since she dared to mess with people from the Barbarian Cave, the answer will surely come out eventually.”

After a pause, Angel said to Lady Melo and Dox, ”As you please, I have some matters to discuss with Old Porter.”

After speaking, Angel did not say anything else, he stood up and walked directly towards Old Porter.

Old Porter saw Angel approaching, his eyes and expression filled with excitement, and his lips even quivered a bit because of it. Angel had seen this expression many times; anyone who had been in the Barbarian Cave would almost invariably show amazement. Therefore, without needing to ask, Angel knew what Old Porter wanted to say.

As Old Porter was about to speak, Angel interrupted him: ”There are some things that are inconvenient to discuss here, let’s go to that secret room from before.”

Old Porter immediately nodded and wanted to follow.

Angel then said: ”By the way, make arrangements for these Talented Ones to come back later, I’ll go over there first and wait for you. Oh, and there are patrol guards outside, they’ll probably be here soon, so handle them. Don’t worry, I’ve set up an Illusionary Realm outside, they won’t be able to find out what’s going on inside, even if they come in, it’ll just be into the illusion.”

”For more details, you can ask Lady Melo.”

After speaking, Angel didn’t give Old Porter a chance to speak and left the hall first.

Although Old Porter really wanted to follow Angel, especially since he particularly wanted to discuss the Wilderness of Dreams at this moment, Angel had given the order, so he could only handle the matters here first.

Because he was eagerly wanting to see Angel, Old Porter’s actions became especially efficient, and he went to find Lady Melo to understand the situation as soon as possible.

Lady Melo was about to leave, not wanting to continue sitting at the same table with Red Sword Dox. But seeing Old Porter coming over, she paused.

As Old Porter was about to speak, Dox interjected first: ”Didn’t the Transcendental Wizard say he needed you for something?”

Old Porter replied respectfully: ”There are patrol guards coming this way outside, sir asked me to handle them first, these matters are more urgent. Once I finish, I’ll go find him.”

Dox muttered under his breath: ”Is that really the case?”

Old Porter: ”Yes.”

Dox looked a bit doubtful; he always felt it was strange for Angel to leave alone, but there’s nothing wrong with what Dox said.

”Forget it, I won’t think about it.” Dox sighed, picked up his wine glass, and started drinking idly, his mind returning to how he could battle the Crowned Parrot.

Observing this, Old Porter hurriedly asked Lady Melo about the situation in Princess Castle, to determine how to deal with the guards.

While Lady Melo succinctly narrated the events to Old Porter, on the other side, Angel had already arrived in front of the secret room.

After pushing open the secret room, Angel didn’t enter, but casually pointed, constructing an illusion within the room.

If anyone were here at that moment, they would discover that the illusion inside the secret room was exactly Angel’s current image!

And Angel’s true body, after constructing the illusion, opened The Gate of Void, disappearing into it, quickly vanishing without a trace.

...

Dox’s suspicion was correct; Angel indeed had another agenda, which was related to Princess Castle.

However, this time, Angel did not plan to infiltrate Princess Castle again.

Instead, he came to the top of an uninhabited hill not far from Princess Castle, looking down at the distant and bustling, brightly shining castle.

Subsequently, Angel retrieved something from his bracelet.

Moments later, a ghostly shadow flickered across the hill, like a great bird sweeping through the night sky, diving directly within the range of Princess Castle...

Yet Angel remained standing on the hilltop, watching the continuously lively and brilliantly illuminated castle from afar.

...

At this time, on the third floor of Princess Castle, cries of agony kept echoing.

One servant after another was pushed into the third floor’s room by the extremely enraged Princess. Soon after, servants ran out of the room in terror.

And the Princess grabbed a servant, pouring some unknown potion into their mouth.

All the servants who were forced to drink the potion began to experience body elongation and transformation, with skeletal change and flesh writhing, causing this group of low-level apprentices to emit cries of anguish.

After wailing, came the screams.

The mutated servants did not escape death, ultimately bursting into bloody mist.

Once this batch of servants had all died, the Princess’s enraged gaze shifted, and another batch of new servants was brought up. Having witnessed the previous servants’ terrifying deaths, they trembled in fear in front of the Princess’s gaze.

The Princess, however, cared nothing for their lives, pointing at them: ”Get in there, now, go inside!”

The servants’ screams could not elicit any sympathy from the Princess, only increasing her anger.

At this moment, a hand lightly tapped the Princess’s shoulder.

The Princess turned around angrily, only to find it was the Grey Crow Wizard, who had been standing silently beside her, who had touched her.

”The castle’s servants are almost all dead; if they die, no one will serve you anymore. Let them go.” the Grey Crow Wizard said softly.

Princess: ”No, absolutely not! If we don’t test which potion is effective, I won’t stop! If there are no people left, we’ll catch more, as the Kingdom lacks everything but people!”

The Grey Crow Wizard sighed lightly.

The Princess sneered: ”Don’t think I’m doing this just for myself; your situation is just like mine. Look at your own face!”

Through the reflection in the nearby mirror, the Grey Crow Wizard could clearly see his own appearance.

The hood he had worn was now removed, as it was impossible to wear it any longer, with all kinds of spotted mushrooms covering his face and head. These mushrooms had grown all over his body, large and small, stretching his clothes to the limit.

Not only the Grey Crow Wizard, but also the Princess standing across from him, as well as the servants who had died escaping from the room, were in the same condition.

The mushrooms covered their entire bodies.

The cause of all this was the pink snake Slaikum, which had exploded when touched by the Princess.

Whatever the outsider had placed inside Slaikum was unknown, but when it exploded, a lot of mist spread out, and anyone who came into contact with it started growing mushrooms.

The first to suffer were the Princess and the Grey Crow Wizard.

And the mushrooms that grew seemed to be part of the body; cutting them off brought pain and they quickly regrew. The horrific growth terrified the Princess.

Though these mushrooms temporarily exhibited no negative effects, the ugliness was unacceptable to the Princess.

She had always pursued the most exquisite life, unable to tolerate any flaw upon her body.

Thus, she began trying all sorts of potions from Princess Town, making servants enter the room to become contaminated for testing.

But so far, none of the potions could curb the mushrooms’ growth.

As the Princess screamed in fury.

A strange laughter suddenly echoed within the now deserted castle.
