The Versatile Master Artist

From a close distance, it’s clear that the driver’s hand has a layer of white calluses.

It’s not the calluses left from moving heavy objects on the palm and fingers, but rather a hard layer of keratinized skin covering the web of the thumb and the pad of the index finger.

These calluses are very distinctive and rare.

”Gun calluses?”

Bald had seen similar calluses on Brother Hao’s personal bodyguard. That bodyguard was a retired officer from a high-ranking special forces unit in the Myanmar army.

He was one of Brother Hao’s toughest and most capable fighters.

Brother Hao’s trust in him was no less than in himself, and the annual bonuses and allowances alone could buy a Ferrari.

At a dinner table, he once casually said—at least several hundred thousand rounds of bullets must be fired like water to leave such marks on the gun-wielding hand.

With such a background, how could he possibly be a coward?

Bald’s heart trembled violently, and he instinctively took a deep breath, slowly raising his head.

He saw that Uncle Ah Lai actually smiled at him, a calm and gentle smile, like an adult facing a mischievous child.

Calm but indifferent.

More accurately,

the feeling wasn’t like an enraged cobra but rather a giant elephant facing a barking wild dog in front of it. The elephant wasn’t angry; it just couldn’t be bothered to engage.

Silence is the highest form of contempt.

The older you get in the underworld, the smaller your courage; Bald suddenly felt a chill run down his back.

”My hand trembled, sorry, brother, sorry.”

Bald felt as if his heart was squeezed by an invisible giant hand, dared not meet Uncle Ah Lai’s eyes, took a step back, and repeatedly apologized.

”Mr. Xiao Gu is truly hidden away from the world, I won’t disturb you from your painting. The water here is too deep, can’t understand it, Bald didn’t want to stay longer, knocked on the back car window again, and waved goodbye.

”We’ve prepared both the check and the Bentley for you, whenever you change your mind, we’re ready to offer them with both hands, Brother Hao’s promise is always valid. Think carefully, with Brother Hao’s generosity, what are 75 million Myanmar Kyat? Perhaps even 75 million US Dollars isn’t an unattainable figure.”

Uncle Ah Lai saw Gu Weijing nod, without any hand movement, gently released the brake, and the car quickly drove away.

He saw this scene through the car window.

Bald was silent for a few seconds, as if realizing something, was gently shocked again.

”Really professional.” He admired.

Elantra, this old model of the Korean car, is mostly manual in Myanmar.

When parked earlier, the driver kept it in first gear, left foot lightly on the clutch and brake, right foot gently on the gas pedal, keeping the engine at a suitable RPM.

So, just releasing the brake saves steps of starting, shifting gears, and accelerating, for the fastest start.

The tall man exuded traces of the finest training from head to toe.

For those trained in special driving,

In unclear situations, the first principle is to take the employer away from danger at the fastest speed, fuel economy is nonessential.

Upon reflection, even when lighting a cigarette for him, the other hand was resting on the steering wheel, which was probably the reason.

”Damn, where did this ruthless guy come from? Actually stooped to drive for a high schooler, and that high schooler repeatedly refuses Brother Hao’s invitation.”

Bald watched the Elantra’s tail lights recede, puzzled, and complained.

”Adults, kids, they’re all freaking crazy.”

This damn world,

really makes it harder for him to understand.

...

”Ask whatever you want?”

On the road to the Good Fortune Orphanage, Gu Weijing noticed Uncle Ah Lai looking at him with a strange expression several times, so he spoke up.

”Alright, Mr. Xiao Gu, theoretically, you’re the boss; I have no right to inquire about your private matters, but... I really am a bit curious.”

Uncle Ah Lai turned onto the city ring highway heading to Leyada District, hesitated a moment, then spoke up.

”To be blunt, employing me as your assistant was just for this matter, earlier, that was surely the underworld, right?”

”Yes, it’s the underworld, Southeast Asia’s major counterfeiting and money laundering gang, known as Refined Thief, but actually full of crimes. By the way, Uncle, your attitude is much calmer than I expected.”

Gu Weijing raised an eyebrow.

He originally thought gatekeepers like him, who hate evildoers, would surely show little favor upon discovering these were gangsters.

”However, that Bald seemed a bit afraid of you.” Gu Weijing remarked.

The thugs are usually stubborn rolling stones, and Bald, among Brother Hao’s men, has quite a standing, yet he suddenly became much more polite in front of Uncle Ah Lai.

”Just a trick.”

Uncle Ah Lai didn’t elaborate on their little skirmish.

”You think I’d toss a business card at him, and spit on that Bald’s face or something? No, that’s really unprofessional. I’m your assistant, providing you with service. Without receiving your specific indication, I will never deliberately provoke others. Under the premise of not causing trouble for the VIP, ensuring the security of the VIP is my trained first principle.”

Uncle Ah Lai casually smiled and then crumpled the business card Bald handed over, tossing it into the car ashtray beside him.

”I can do this privately, but not in front.”
