The Devil Does Not Need to Be Defeated

Chapter 298: “Try Poking If Dissatisfied.”

”The adventurer Shien is to be granted a title of nobility. He shall be named an honorary viscount.”

News like this spread out within the Capital and became known to nobles and commoners, one after another.

”A viscount right off the bat?”

”Thatʼs amazing.”

”Although there are a lot of adventurers who have gained titles of nobility after a meritorious achievement, but to be made a viscount right off the bat. This hasnʼt happened in a long time it seems, right?”

”Normally, they should start as the lowest baron rank.”

”Yeah.”

The citizenry of the Capital were quite excitedly talking about this.

Originally, something like someone being raised to nobility would normally not have spread out so quickly or have that much attention paid to it.

Just as the conversations previously have said, there are lots of examples of adventurers who were granted a title of nobility after a meritorious achievement. There were several newly made barons in just this year alone, so the citizenry of the Capital have long since gotten used to news about so and so being raised to nobility.

Given all that, itʼs been a very long time since an ennobling has been talked about so excitedly.

However, the news of Shien being made a noble had spread very quickly, and is also a common topic of conversation, and it quickly spread across every nook and cranny of the Capital.

There are several reasons for this.

One of them is that itʼs indeed quite rare for someone to be directly made a viscount.

Besides that, Shien himself is quite a well known figure within the Capital recently. Him taming the black dragon of Ataru, revealing the plot of the Garibaldi family, breaking the evil ritual over the Ataru Canyons, and even nearly annihilating the National Knight Order. All those matters basically illuminated him, making it so that he still has a lot of attention on him even now.

Besides that, Shien had also previously subjugated the Old Demon Faction led by Baydr. This made it so that the citizenry who lived through the terror of that Old Demon Factionʼs assault on the Capital all had quite a good impression of Shien.

There also the fact that the Kingdom is purposefully spreading the news in order to let the nobility and other nations know that Shien was already taken. This way they can wipe out any thoughts that those nobility and foreign countries might have. As such, it ended up also creating even more attention on Shienʼs ennobling.

Unfortunately though, in a directly opposite reaction to the commoners, many of the nobility are instead very upset with this matter.

”He must have only been made a viscount from the start due to his relationship with Princess Lucilosti, right?”

”Heʼs just a mere viscount. How dare he draw so much attention?”

”In my opinion, we should find an opportunity to properly teach him what the rules of nobility are.”

”Thatʼs right.”

Those nobles seethed in jealousy. One after another spoke excitedly, but in the end, not a single one of them dared to actually try to put that into action.

Itʼs obvious that it was merely empty boasting.

After all, thereʼs no way that theyʼd consider themselves stronger than the National Knight Order. They have even less thought that they can possibly do anything against that dragon that has been famous for 400 years.

That said, itʼs exactly for that reason that theyʼre all the more jealous.

Itʼs because they know full well that, given Shienʼs abilities and that princessʼs favor, in the future, he may very well rise even higher in the future.

Perhaps, not long from now, even their one pride, their family, will end up losing to him in comparison.

When that happens, they not only wonʼt dare to provoke this former adventurer, but even that princess may end up marrying him due to the rise in his status.

Thatʼs absolutely not something that many nobles would want to see.

Thanks to that, the matter of Shienʼs ennobling was also a major topic among the noble circles as well.

It really is quite unusual for a mere honorary viscount to get so much attention.

Many people had gained certain realizations from that, and thus have started thinking.

Shien obviously wouldnʼt know what others might be thinking.

He doesnʼt care to pay any attention either.

When he was earnestly asked about what he thinks about it, he only had one thing to say.

”Donʼt just go posturing. Just try poking me if youʼre dissatisfied.”

When Shien tossed out those words, Lucy, Vivian, and the others just had no words.

”Who the heck would dare to poke you?”

”Thereʼs no way that those nobles would be that dumb. The weapon that theyʼll use will definitely not be actual force, but the power of the Kingdomʼs authority.”

Lucy and Vivian each respectively told him so.

Shien didnʼt care though.

If they really do end up actually bringing trouble before him, then thereʼs no way that heʼs going to waste so many words. Instead, heʼll just kick their asses.

He has Lucy covering him after all, so not only is Shien not afraid, he even feels like his foot is getting itchy lately. He would absolutely welcome a few asses for him to plant his foot in. It would be quite refreshing.

Truth be told, Shien really did end up getting put in a good mood a few days later exactly for that reason.

Itʼs for none other reason than the fact that a few asses really did show up to try to pick a fight with him.

Those couple of families of nobles then loudly screamed out in condemnation of Shien in hopes that the Kingdom would grant them justice.

Unfortunately for them, after several days of screaming, they saw that Shien was still visiting the palace every single day without any issues at all. Thus those nobles also realized that he wasnʼt someone that they can mess around with so they could only push down their anger and quiet down.

Shien basically just ignored all the clamoring outside. If anyone tries to pick a fight with him, then heʼll just kick right back. If no one is making trouble for him, then heʼll dive into the magic library below the palace to study hard in attempting to finish learning astro and enchant magic.

During this time period, Lucy brought Shien several pieces of news.

”Your ennobling ceremony will take place at the end of the month.”

At that time, Shein will need to head to the audience chamber again to accept the Kingʼs conferment of his new title.

”After the conferment of your title is done, based on the rules, youʼll need to hold a noble banquet in your new home. Therefore, you need to make sure to find enough servants and chefs before the end of the month, properly clean up your home and prepare for this banquet so as to not embarrass yourself.”

Lucy had stated that Shien can write his own invitations and invite others to this banquet. Alternatively, he could also not bother with invitations, but then others wonʼt join his banquet. It all depends on whether or not your name is well known enough, whether your connections are wide enough, and whether or not others will find you worth associating with.

Supposedly, the purpose of this particular banquet is to show off oneʼs own might as a noble. The more people who join it, the mightier it shows one to be. Also, the higher the status of ones guests also shows higher capabilities as a noble.

This is equivalent to showing off oneʼs own connections. Of how many people on on their side. Of whether or not one has the capabilities to create a high quality banquet.

”Generally speaking, a banquet held by someone who was just ennobled tend to be fairly quiet. Theyʼd have very few nobles show up, and most of those would be personal friends. If itʼs a viscount, there generally also wonʼt be too many guests, but thatʼs not something that youʼll need to worry about.”

Lucy said those words to Shien with a deeply meaningful tone, making the corner of Shienʼs mouth twitch.

”That reckless princess wouldnʼt be thinking about coming herself, would she?”

If that really did happen, the Shien could already imagine just what his ennobling banquet will end up exploding into.

Itʼs basically impossible for anyone not at least a count to be able to get a member of royalty to show up at their banquet.

Princess Lucy however is even more special. Up until now, she had never shown up at any ennobling banquet. She has rarely even shown up at any ennobling ceremony.

Given that, if that girl actually shows up, then Shienʼs banquet will definitely end up completely exploding unless the Kingdom purposefully tries to suppress things.

”Well, whatever. Iʼm not going to bother with those troublesome stuff anyways.”

Shien decided to simply completely ignore the matter.

Itʼs not the kind of thing that Shien likes in the first place after all.

If it was before and someone tried to make Shien to something like that, then he may very well quit on the spot.

But now…

”This shall be an utterly flawless banquet.”

Lasha made such a calm yet powerful statement to Shien before completely vanishing.

Seeing Lasha like that, Shien had both relaxed and was a little scared.

”… I keep feeling like that maid will end up doing something that would make everyoneʼs manacles pop off again.”

Shien felt like he could already see the scene of that dayʼs banquet.

Thus, he left the matter of preparing for the banquet all to Lasha while he himself ignored it all to continue immersing himself in the library as always.

Being able to push things onto others to this level is something pretty amazing as well.

Anyways, he can get Lucy to handle any major issues, and minor issues he can push onto Lasha. Given all that, Shien is actually spending those days fairly comfortably.

As for Vivian, Diere, Lumia, and Melika, those girls have been busy discussing their future plans together, and at this point, they were still trying to help Lumia with her issues.

Airi also found out about Shien becoming a noble soon, but she didnʼt have any opinions on it.

Airi was just seriously considering a certain thing.

”Should I also show myself at the banquet? In my true identity that is.”

Airi had brought up such a question with Shien.

”Please donʼt, maʼam!”

Shien stopped her with all his might.

Donʼt even joke about it. If that brat seriously used her real identity to participate in his banquet, then the entire mortal world would likely end up exploding.

”I was going to back you up then and warn those scurrying ants not to have any ideas about one of mine.”

Airi so stated in a very dissatisfied manner.

”… When did I become yours?”

Shien just wanted to take that brat across his knee and give her a spanking.

Although it is true that it might feel nice having some super big shot backing one up, itʼs rather too much in this particular case. Shien himself was a bit terrified of it, and he could feel his head cool down just thinking about the consequences. Thus, he had no choice but to stop her.

Thankfully though, Shien did manage to succeed in stopping Airi in the end, making her run off to find Yulin in a bad mood.

During this period of time, Airi had always been doing that. She would go to Yulin whenever she has some free time. Shien didnʼt know what she was doing either. It was super suspicious.

”Hereʼs hoping that the house the Kingdomʼs giving to me is big enough.”

Shien even wants to bring Yulin over.

Supposedly, the northern districtʼs stables hasnʼt had a day of calm since that miss dragon started staying there.

All the demonic beasts there, including the wyverns, were all shivering in terror every single day while under the same roof as Yulin. They couldnʼt properly eat or sleep, and they were pretty much on the verge of rampaging.

Those people responsible for taking care of the demonic beasts also didnʼt care to approach Yulin at all. The moment they get close, theyʼd end up being scared half to death by an angry roar, so every single one of them acted like they were serving a violent tyrant.

Thus, Shien wants to bring Yulin over to stay with him.

If the place that the Kingdom is giving Shien is big enough, then he wants to build a dragonʼs nest specifically for Yulin to stay in.

That said…

”Do I have enough gold saved up?”

Shien, who already got 10,000 gold, had the feeling that this bit of money might not be enough.

Thus, those days passed one by one.
