The Devil Does Not Need to Be Defeated

Chapter 209: What Do You Think About It Then?

”…”

At that moment, Shien fell silent.

As he watched Limgir, with his waist bowed, head lowered, sincere attitude, and unforced tone, Shien narrowed his eyes, not showing his thoughts.

And as Shien stayed silent, Limgir actually just continued to hold his pose. It was as if he had decided to not get up until Shien opens his mouth, so the unbearable silence simply continued.

This situation continued on for some time.

Only after some time did Shien finally relax.

”Tell me one thing first.” Shien said, ”Why was that supposedly amazing father of yours targeting me anyways?”

That was something that Shien rather wanted to know.

Although all the nobility in the Capital have plenty of reasons to target Shien, itʼs exactly because there were too many reasons that Shien didnʼt know which one was the reason Bali has for targeting him.

”Is it because of Diere? Or is it because of Lucy?”

Shienʼs cold statement made Limgir finally raise his head.

Only, when he raised his head, Limgirʼs eyes flashed a moment with a hint of harshness.

That was the moment when Shien spoke the nickname ”Lucy”.

However, it was gone in a flash.

However, it was exactly because of that flash that Shienʼs expression also shifted a moment, which was gone before Limgir managed to raise his head.

In this situation, Limgir had raised his head and explained to Shien.

”Itʼs because of her highness the princess.” Limgir didnʼt hide it at all and simply spoke bluntly, ”Father had always hoped that I could become his majestyʼs son-in-law and form a marriage alliance with the royalty and through it, increase the Stalim familyʼs position and authority within the Kingdom. Thatʼs why, given your relationship with her highness, it had somewhat provoked that father of mine.”

In response, Shien showed a taunting expression.

”So thatʼs how it is. I understand the reasoning then.” Shien nodded as he smiled knowingly, ”What do you think about it then?”

”Me?” Limgir frowned a bit and asked, ”What do you mean exactly?”

”About the princess obviously.” Shien spread his hands, ”Your father wants you to marry the princess, but what about you then? Do you want to get together with the princess?”

That question seemed to have stumped Limgir.

At the very least, Limgir did not think that Shien would ask that question, so he went silent with a speechless expression.

But, a bit later, Limgir once again relaxed and looked straight at Shien.

”Of course I want to as well.” Limgir spoke definitively, ”You know, the princessʼs admirers are countless. I too am naturally one of them.”

”Naturally huh?” Shienʼs tone turned a bit strange.

”Yes, naturally.” Limgir didnʼt mind and just continued calmly, ”After all, given how beautiful and capable her highness is, she is utterly unmatched in looks, pedigree, or talent. I would even go as far as to say that only someone like her highness is worthy to be called a goddess. In comparison, not even the gods, baring the three great goddesses, are likely even worthy of being compared to her.”

Limgir made a rather taboo statement.

For him to claim that the gods who created the mortals canʼt even compare to a human. If those words got out, then this young master would likely not have an easy time of it.

Thereʼs no way that he wouldnʼt understand that.

However, he still said it.

Itʼs because those were his true thoughts.

”A lady who has never appeared before in history, and likely will never come again. To have been born in the same age as her is a blessing that could send all men into ecstasy.” Limgir was even smiling as he said those words, ”Truth be told, there are many men who lacked the right to pursue her highness too to too big an age gape. There are even quite a few high nobility among them.”

Thus, as a normal man, if Limgir tired to say that he didnʼt have thoughts about the princess, then it would doubtlessly have been a lie.

”Truth be told, given my pedigree and background, my chances of marrying her highness is actually pretty high.” Itʼs unknown if Limgir was joking around or speaking the truth there, ”If I was just a normal commoner, then I obviously wouldnʼt dare to think much of it. However, since Iʼm so close and itʼs not completely impossible for me, how could I possibly say that I donʼt have ambitions in that direction?”

Perhaps, itʼs for that reason that Limgir chose to speak the truth, huh?

In order to display his sincerity.

”However, that doesnʼt mean that I would act like my father and show hostility toward you.”

Limgir finally said the words that he came here to say.

”Father believes that, for the sake of the family and the future, thereʼs no need to worry about or hold back in making an enemy out of someone without any status or background.”

”This is where my father and I differ.”

”Form my point of view, you may just be an adventurer right now, but you will definitely not stay that way forever. As for where you might end up in the future, thatʼs something I think many people can guess at.”

”Therefore, I wonʼt make an enemy of you just for that, so thereʼs no need for you to worry.”

Limgirʼs confession really did quite impress Shien.

However, Shien will still ask the questions that need to be asked.

”Then is young master Limgir prepared to give up on her highness the princess then?”

Shien spoke a probing question.

”Of course not.” Limgir immediately answered with the same certain tone as before as he confessed, ”I will pursue her highness openly and without shame without using any of those underhanded schemes like my father. Would even that end up offending you?”

The meaning behind those words is that if he managed to win the princess via those open methods and Shien ended up turning hostile against him because of that, then it canʼt be helped.

”Youʼre quite good as talking.”

Shien let out a laugh.

”Itʼs just the truth.”

Limgir was still as calm as always.

”Alright, I understand then.” Shien gave Limgir a glance before saying, ”Iʼll accept your apology for now then.”

”For now?” Shien caught the important part in Shienʼs words.

”Yep. For now.” Shien didnʼt hide it either and simply said it outright, ”I can forget this incident. After all, itʼs not like I lost anything really. However, if thereʼs a next time…”

”If thereʼs a next time, then I wonʼt have anything more to say.” Limgir completed Shienʼs sentence and continued on without hesitation, ”Iʼve already done all that I can for the family. If father still refused to see reason and continued to target you, then I wonʼt complain no matter what you do.”

”Alright.” Shien spoke easily, ”Remember your words today.”

”I know.” Limgir smiled and continued warmly, ”Are you planning to head to the underground library? Shall I show you the way then?”

”No need.” Shien shook his head, ”The princess already said that sheʼll be doing that, and sheʼll also be giving me an introduction to the library, so thereʼs no need to trouble you with it.”

”… Is that so?” Limgirʼs words stuttered a bit, ”In that case then, I wonʼt be disturbing you further. I hope that you will find what you want.”

”Hereʼs hoping.” Shien shrugged before he turned about to leave.

As Limgir watched Shienʼs fading figure, the smile on his face slowly vanished as his gaze turned cold.

Right after, Limgir let out a cold humph before he also turned about and left.

He had no idea that Shieni also had a new expression on his face as he left.

That expression can be called playful.
