The Bloodline System

Chapter 1589: We Lost The Fight

All around the planet, debris of charred rocks floated in mid-air, circling the Earth like ominous, lifeless satellites.

The once pristine planet now bore deep dark fissures that could be seen even from space, cracks that radiated across the surface like the veins of a dying creature.

The atmosphere itself seemed fractured, with dark lines snaking through the void surrounding Earth, as if the fabric of reality itself had been torn.

Wilendorʼs eyes widened, and his voice rumbled with deep concern. ”This… is Earth? What in the cosmos happened here?”

Gustavʼs heart sank as he surveyed the devastation from orbit. The planet looked like it had been through a war—an apocalyptic event that had ripped apart the world they had left behind. His cosmic senses picked up the energy signatures lingering in the debris, and it filled him with an unsettling realization.

”This isnʼt just destruction,” Gustav said quietly. ”Something dark has taken root here. The kind of energy surrounding the planet… itʼs similar to what we felt when the sword disappeared.”

Endric clenched his fists, his eyes fixed on the fissures that stretched across the surface of the Earth. ”We need to get down there.”

Without another word, Gustav descended toward the planet, his companions following close behind. As they drew nearer, the devastation on the ground became more apparent.

Parts of the Earthʼs cities were in chaos—streets filled with debris, buildings toppled or abandoned, and the unmistakable presence of dark mist that clung to certain areas, swirling ominously like a living entity.

Entire sections of the cities had been evacuated, with medics and rescue teams scrambling to tend to the wounded and evacuate survivors from the affected areas.

The moment Gustavʼs figure slipped through the clouds, a wave of panic rippled through the crowd below. People stopped in their tracks, their faces turning pale as they saw him descend from the sky. To them, it was as if another threat had arrived—an enemy coming to bring more destruction.

”Look!” someone shouted. ”Thereʼs another one!”

The chaos escalated as people began to scatter in fear. Officers from the MBO—rushed to the scene.

The officers, clad in tactical gear, activated their bloodline abilities, summoning elemental and physical enhancements as they prepared for a fight. Some raised their weapons, while others wielded glowing swords or manipulated the elements at their fingertips.

For a tense moment, it seemed as if another battle was about to erupt. The air was thick with the potential for conflict, and the officers moved in, surrounding Gustav and his companions with cautious precision.

But then, someone recognized him.

”Itʼs… itʼs Gustav Crimson!” an officer shouted in shock.

The tension in the air shifted as the officers paused, their eyes wide with disbelief. Word spread quickly, and the panic in the crowd began to subside as more people realized who had descended from the sky. Gustav Crimson hailed as the hero of Earth, had returned after being gone for nearly six months.

”Gustavʼs back,” someone whispered. ”Heʼs really back.”

The officers, who had been ready to strike, slowly lowered their weapons in relief. One of the officers stepped forward, his voice trembling slightly. ”Sir… youʼre back.”

Gustavʼs gaze was sharp, and though he appreciated the respect, there was no time for pleasantries. His voice was firm and direct as he spoke. ”What happened here? Whoʼs responsible for this?”

The officer hesitated for a moment, clearly overwhelmed by the gravity of the situation. His eyes flickered to the dark mist swirling in the distance, then back to Gustav.

Gustavʼs eyes were hard. He had been gone for nearly six months, but in that time, Earth had turned into something unrecognizable. He needed answers—and fast.

The officer, recognizing Gustavʼs authority, swallowed hard before answering. His name tag read Captain Yuren and he looked like he had seen far more than anyone should have to witness in their lifetime.

His voice was rough from shouting orders, and his eyes, though sharp, were haunted by the horrors they had experienced.

”We… we lost the fight,” Yurenʼs voice was laced with regret.

Gustavʼs expression darkened, and he stepped closer. ”Elaborate. What fight did we lose?”

Captain Yuren glanced at his fellow officers before clearing his throat. He seemed reluctant to relive the events, but he knew Gustav needed to know.

”It all started not long after you left,” Yuren began, his voice steadying. ”The MBO, alongside some of the worldʼs top scientists, discovered a means to open a portal to the higher dimension, the one where the dark beings reside that are threatening our world.”

Gustavʼs eyes narrowed at this revelation. ʼThey opened a portal to the dark plane?ʼ

Yuren continued, sensing Gustavʼs rising concern. ”The idea was simple—weʼd take the fight to them. The fear of what had happened to planet Ozious was what drove our leaders. We figured if we could get to them in their own dimension, we might stand a chance of stopping them at the source.”

Endric, who stood beside Gustav, exchanged a worried glance with Ria. ”Thatʼs reckless,” he muttered under his breath, though Gustav heard him.

”The scientists and the MBO knew the risks,” Yuren continued. ”We were aware that any mortal who entered the higher dimension would grow weaker. Our strength—the abilities that make us powerful here—would be diminished in their plane. And worse, the beings in the dark plane are immensely overpowered. Death Angels arenʼt even ranked among the top three in their hierarchy.”

A heavy silence fell over the group as the gravity of the situation settled in. Gustavʼs face remained impassive, though his mind was racing. The MBO knew the risks, yet they proceeded.

Yuren sighed and rubbed his temples, the stress of recounting these events evident in his every movement. ”To counter this, we devised a new technology—an implant that would allow the MBO officers, or any powerful Mixedbloods who volunteered, to maintain their strength while in the dark plane. The implant would also boost their abilities, drawing power from the dark energy of that realm.”

Gustavʼs eyes flickered with interest. ”And the downside?”

It was almost like Gustav immediately knew that something like this would have side effects.

Yurenʼs face tightened. ”The downside was… the volunteers likely wouldnʼt survive after the battle. The implant burned through their life energy too quickly. Once the fight was over, theyʼd… theyʼd die.”

Gustav let out a low sigh. ”And yet people volunteered?”

”A lot of them,” Yuren voice was filled with admiration and sorrow. ”Hundreds of thousands from Earth alone. They wanted to end the threat, to finally put an end to the dark beingsʼ. We also managed to convince several planets from the alliance to join the fight. In total, we sent over a million supernatural soldiers, of varying species, into the dark plane.”

ʼGetting into the dark plane was always a possibility... I sealed it to prevent exit not necessarily entry but still this was a very foolish decision,ʼ Gustav said internally with a thoughtful gaze.

Gustav could only imagine the scale of this mission—an unprecedented gathering of soldiers and warriors from across the universe, all united by a common goal. And yet, something had clearly gone horribly wrong.

”What happened when the portal opened?” Gustav asked, his voice quieter now, as if he already anticipated the answer.

Yurenʼs gaze grew distant, as though he were reliving the moment. ”The day we sent them through… we all stood by, waiting. It was impossible for creatures from there to use the portal to get to us since the seal remained unbroken.

For days, there was no word. Weeks passed, and we heard nothing. People were growing restless, scared that we had sent them to their deaths.”

He paused, his voice growing heavier. ”Then, about a month later, the portal reappeared on Earth… but what came back through wasnʼt what we sent in.”

Endric shifted uneasily, sensing where the story was going.

”The soldiers who returned… there were only about a hundred thousand left. Barely a fraction of the millions we sent in. And… they werenʼt the same. Their bodies were twisted, corrupted by the dark energy. It had consumed them, turned them into something else. Their skin was darkened, their eyes… empty.

They looked like shells of themselves, but they were stronger than theyʼd ever been. And their only goal was to destroy everything.”

Riaʼs eyes widened, his voice low with shock. ”You mean… they were trying to destroy Earth?”

Yuren nodded with a expression. ”They didnʼt speak. They didnʼt even seem to recognize us. We had to fight them—people we had trained with, fought beside. Friends. Family.

They were gone, and what was left was… a weapon.”

He looked down, his hands trembling slightly. ”The worst part was… every time one of them died, their bodies erupted like explosions. Massive blasts of dark energy that tore through everything in their path. Those explosions… theyʼre what caused the dark fissures you see now. The cracks in space… those appeared shortly after.”

Gustav stared out at the horizon, where the cracks in space shimmered faintly, like wounds on the fabric of reality itself. His mind churned as he processed the officerʼs words.

”How did you stop them?” Gustav asked, though he already knew the answer would be grim.
