Chapter 765 765: A King Who Walks Alone [Part-2]

A King Who Walks Alone [Part-2]

”Iʼm not walking into death.”

A pause. Just long enough for them to feel the edge of it.

”Iʼm walking into control.”

The words settled.

Slow.

Heavy.

They didnʼt explode—they sank in. Like something inevitable. Like something already in motion.

Ronanʼs jaw tightened slightly, but he didnʼt argue. Not this time.

Black exhaled through his nose, the sound quiet but edged with tension.

”…Then at least take a unit.”

He tilted his head just enough, eyes narrowing.

”You donʼt walk into something like this alone—not even you.”

The words didnʼt echo loudly—but they landed heavy.

The kind of weight that settles in your chest and refuses to move.

For a brief moment, no one spoke again.

Not because they had nothing to say—

but because everyone had something to say, and none of it would change him.

Because now it wasnʼt just about what Leon planned—

It was about whether they were going to let him do it his way.

A faint shift rippled through the room.

Boots scraping softly against marble. A hand tightening over a sword hilt.

Unspoken frustration. Unspoken fear.

Leon saw it. Of course he did.

He always did.

And still—

Leon shook his head.

”No.”

Flat. Clean. Final.

Johny clicked his tongue, dragging a hand down his face before muttering under his breath—

”Stubborn…”

Then louder, just enough to be heard, ”One day thatʼs gonna get you killed, you know that?”

Leon didnʼt even look at him.

Rias finally spoke again.

Quiet.

But firm.

”…Youʼre not changing your mind.”

It wasnʼt really a question.

More like… a last attempt to hear him deny it.

Leonʼs lips curved faintly. Not arrogance. Not mockery.

Just certainty.

”No.”

Rias held his gaze.

A second too long.

Her fingers twitched slightly at her side, like she wanted to grab him, shake him, force sense into him— but she didnʼt.

Because she knew it wouldnʼt matter.

A long silence followed.

It stretched.

Thick. Suffocating.

Even the air felt still.

Then—

Rias exhaled.

Not loudly. Not dramatically.

Just… letting something go.

”…Then donʼt die.”

Simple words.

But beneath them—

fear, anger, helplessness… and something softer sheʼd never say out loud.

Johny scoffed lightly, though it lacked its usual bite.

”Yeah… try not to make us plan your funeral, yeah?”

Someone in the back let out a quiet breath that almost sounded like a laugh—but it died quickly.

No one found this funny.

Leon looked at her.

Really looked.

For a brief second, the commander—the king—the man carrying everything—

faded.

And what remained was just… him.

He gave a small nod.

”I wonʼt.”

No promises dressed in grandeur.

No dramatic oath.

Just something steady.

Something she chose to believe.

Then—

He turned.

The shift was immediate.

The moment he stepped away from them, something in the room tightened again.

Walking back toward the throne.

Each step measured. Controlled.

The distance between them grew—

and with it, the space between who he was to them…

…and who he had to be.

He didnʼt sit this time.

He stood.

Straight. Unyielding.

Looking down at all of them.

And just like that—

the warmth was gone.

”And now…”

His voice returned to command.

Not loud.

But absolute.

”You all have your roles.”

”You all have your authority.”

His eyes sharpened again, sweeping across each face.

Reading them. Weighing them. Expecting them.

No hesitation allowed.

”While Iʼm gone…”

A brief pause.

Not uncertainty—

but emphasis.

”…this kingdom will not slow down.”

The air tightened once more.

No one spoke.

It was unnecessary for them.

Not one soul missed how heavy his voice suddenly seemed, a stillness pulling at each syllable like an undertow. What came next sat low, not loud but firm - like air before thunder.

A slow fold of Riasʼs arms came before anything else, her red eyes tightening slightly. A storm - that is what you leave behind, she said, not sharp, not blaming, only speaking the thing others stayed quiet about.

His eyes stayed away from hers just then.

”Good,” he replied after a beat, his tone even. ”Then youʼll learn how to stand in one.”

A faint breath escaped Syra, half a laugh, half disbelief. ”You say that like we havenʼt already been drowning in one since you took the throne.”

”That wasnʼt a storm,” Leon said, finally lifting his gaze. ”That was preparation.”

A hush returned - yet light now, not weighed down.

It was sharp.

Focused.

”Because when I return…”

A pause.

One after another, his gaze settled on each face. Not like a ruler surveying servants, yet more like someone weighing whoʼd carry what mattered most.

”…we wonʼt just be ruling one kingdom.”

That landed.

Hard.

Fingers curled into fabric, just a little. ”So itʼs true...” she said, voice low, almost like she forgot he was there, gaze still fixed right where it needed to be.

Aria tipped her head sideways, a small grin pulling one corner of her mouth - no shock there, just knowing. Her voice came quiet. Not wonder. Understanding instead. ”Thatʼs what youʼre aiming for then.”

Leon didnʼt deny it.

Didnʼt soften it.

Didnʼt dress it up in something easier to swallow.

The meaning was clear.

”And for that…”

Leonʼs gaze burned.

Not with anger.

Not with arrogance.

But with something far more dangerous—certainty.

”You need to be ready.”

Cynthia straightened subtly, her calm expression sharpening. ”Then stop holding back information,” she said quietly. ”If weʼre meant to carry this while youʼre gone… we need to know everything.”

A small pause.

Then—

”…you will,” Leon answered.

Simple.

Firm.

Final.

Silence.

Absolute.

No resistance.

No doubt.

Just understanding.

Then—

He leaned slightly forward.
