Super Rich by Doing as You Please

Chapter 694: Chapter 307: Song Xiaowei: I Knew You Had This in Mind…

For him, when two people were together, whether or not they did *that* on any given occasion wasn’t important anymore. It was better to just chat and provide each other with some emotional satisfaction.

This also allowed the woman to feel that she wasn’t just a tool, but a person—a woman who was respected and liked.

Women are emotional creatures.

Once she willingly and wholeheartedly immersed herself in a natural, unforced atmosphere, that was often when the experience was best for both of them.

They would achieve the so-called fusion of body, mind, and soul.

“Mhm, I was recording all day.”

In fact, Song Xiaowei really hadn’t expected Xu Yun to not make a move on her right away. Instead, he was patiently chatting with her and asking about her work.

“So tell me, who were you recording with?”

Xu Yun asked curiously, “With your job now, you get to meet and interact with big celebrities every day. I’m so jealous.”

“If you wanted to, is there any celebrity you *couldn’t* meet?”

Song Xiaowei replied with a smile, “We actually do have a few A-list celebrities recording this time. There’s Bai Lu, Zhou Sheng, and also Zhang Jin and his wife.”

When Xu Yun heard Zhang Jin and his wife were there, he said, “Speaking of them, I sort of got to know them last time I was on Hong Kong Island.

When you’re recording tomorrow, remember to set something up for me. Since they’ve come to my city, it’s only right that I treat the two of them to a meal.”

“Okay, I will.”

“By the way, has anyone at work been giving you a hard time lately?”

“No.”

Song Xiaowei chuckled. “After what happened with Director Bi, no one dares to have any ideas about me. They might have the desire, but they don’t have the guts.”

“It’s just that the more famous you get and the better your career goes, the less I’ll be able to go shopping with you on the street.”

Xu Yun said, feigning annoyance, “I get a headache just thinking about how we’ll have to be all secretive whenever we meet in the future, always on guard against the paparazzi.”

Song Xiaowei couldn’t help but laugh. “There’s nothing I can do about that. It’s just how our industry is. You win some, you lose some. I guess you’ll just have to put up with it.”

“Then how are you going to compensate me for this ‘inconvenience’?”

Song Xiaowei said shyly, “Later… whatever you want to do, I’ll go along with it, okay?”

“Deal.”

A triumphant grin spread across Xu Yun’s face. He swept her into his arms and said, “In that case, let’s try the one-legged split. I’ve been wanting to try that for a long time.”

“Huh?”

Song Xiaowei’s face instantly flushed red. She mumbled, “I knew you were after that…”

“Hehe, a promise is a promise.”

Song Xiaowei: “…”

…

「The next day, in the main hall for variety shows at Jiangcheng TV Station.」

After recording a segment of the variety show, everyone was backstage taking a short break.

Because Song Xiaowei’s online popularity had recently skyrocketed, making her a rising star in the variety show world, the celebrities who came to record the show all tried to get on her good side.

In this business, having a friend at a TV station could mean another opportunity for screen time.

For a celebrity to stay famous, they needed to constantly be in the public eye, generate a lot of buzz, and, more importantly, have good resources.

If you went quiet for even a short period, you would slowly be forgotten by the public.

In today’s age of information overload and rampant short-form video, traffic is king!

Everyone says celebrities make a lot of money, but nowadays, many mega-popular internet celebrities, while not having the same status, actually earn far more than them.

That’s why you see more and more celebrities setting up accounts on short-form video platforms, doing livestreams, and publishing their own content to attract views.

And Song Xiaowei’s online popularity was quite high now. There were tons of short clips of her and the show circulating online.

And in such a short time, she was already on the verge of securing her position as the queen of variety shows at Jiangcheng TV Station.

But most importantly, everyone had heard the private rumors that behind her stood a top “princeling”—the son of a high-ranking official who could command the wind and rain in Jiangcheng, and perhaps even the entire country.

Rumors, after all, tend to get more and more outrageous as they spread.

As for Zhang Jin and his wife, Zhang Jin himself was a relatively famous A-list martial arts actor from the Mainland. He didn’t lack resources, had a rather zen-like attitude, and had little interest in networking with Song Xiaowei.

And Cai Shaofen, as a senior actress who had been famous for a long time, had no need to go out of her way to befriend a newcomer like Song Xiaowei.

To put it bluntly, their status in the industry was high enough that they didn’t need to network like other newcomers.

Their plan for this trip to Jiangcheng TV Station was simple: record the show according to the script, collect their pay, and leave.

They hadn’t expected that during the break today, she would suddenly come to their private dressing room.

“Teacher Zhang Jin, Teacher Cai Shaofen.”

Song Xiaowei knocked and entered, saying with a smile, “You’ve worked hard on the recording today. I was just passing by and thought I’d bring you two a couple bottles of water.”

‘There’s water in the dressing room. Why would we need you to bring any?’

‘She obviously just found a random excuse to come in.’

Cai Shaofen exchanged a look with her husband. ‘She’s here for something.’

She replied politely with her slightly accented Mandarin, “You’re too kind, Teacher Song. We’re getting paid to record the show, so it’s what we’re supposed to do.”

“That may be true, but there aren’t many celebrities as professional as you two.”

After saying this, Song Xiaowei paused for a moment before adding, “After we finish recording tonight, I was wondering if you two would have time to have dinner together?”

“Dinner?”

Cai Shaofen was a little surprised and was about to refuse, but in the next second, she changed her mind.

Because Song Xiaowei mentioned a name.

“Here’s the thing.”

Song Xiaowei explained, “My friend, Xu Yun, heard that you were here recording with me and asked me to invite you both to dinner with him tonight.”

“…”

Zhang Jin and Cai Shaofen were stunned.

Zhang Jin asked, “Teacher Song, you know President Xu?”

“Mhm.”

Song Xiaowei smiled. “He said that since his friends have come to his turf, he has to treat them to a meal before they leave.”

“Of course. We’d be honored.”

Upon hearing this, Zhang Jin nodded, his attitude becoming much friendlier. He smiled and said, “Teacher Song, let’s exchange contact information. Just send me the address after the show. The two of us will go back to the hotel to freshen up a bit, and then we’ll head over.”

“Great. I’ll let you get back to your rest then.”

Song Xiaowei added, “I’ll go let Xu Yun know.”

After Song Xiaowei left, Zhang Jin and his wife looked at each other, speechless.

To be honest, they had only met Xu Yun once on Hong Kong Island. They were acquaintances, you could say, but you couldn’t call them close friends.

However, they knew his background was definitely not simple.

They wouldn’t go so far as to fawn over him, but he was certainly someone they couldn’t afford to offend.

Connecting this to the rumors about the powerful figure backing Song Xiaowei…

The same thought occurred to both of them at the same time: ‘Could the man behind Song Xiaowei be Xu Yun?’

‘If that’s true, then it would be best for us to stay in touch with this Song Xiaowei woman and try to become friends.’

‘If we ever run into trouble in the Mainland in the future, maybe we could even ask President Xu to help out.’

…

After hearing back from Song Xiaowei at home, Xu Yun called Lin Wanzhou to invite him to dinner that evening as well.

After all, Zhang Jin and his wife were acquaintances of his too.

After listening, Lin Wanzhou said, “Actually, Wang Yurou and I were planning to cook at home today and invite you over. She wants to thank you for helping her get that job. I guess it’ll have to wait until next time.”

“No need.”

Xu Yun thought for a moment and said, “Why don’t I just have the couple come over to your place for dinner tonight? That solves everything. We can combine the two meals.”

“Is that a good idea?”

Lin Wanzhou said, “What we’re making won’t be as good as a restaurant. It’s just home cooking. It’s one thing to invite you, but to invite *them*…”

“Inviting someone to eat at your home is the highest form of hospitality.”

Xu Yun said, “If they really turn their noses up at it, then it just means our judgment of character is flawed.”

“Alright, we’ll do it your way.”

Lin Wanzhou said, “I’ll go pick up Wang Yurou now and grab some groceries from her supermarket on the way back.”

“Not working?”

“I’m taking the day off. Is that a problem?”

Lin Wanzhou said, “If her supervisor really gives her a hard time this time, I don’t mind pulling some strings and having you use your special connections.”

“Hahaha, sounds good.”

Xu Yun said, “Don’t worry about the drinks; I’ll bring them. Just make sure Wang Yurou makes a few extra dishes. We’re not going home sober tonight.”

“You think you’re coming to feast at the landlord’s expense?”

Lin Wanzhou retorted good-naturedly, “You’ll eat whatever my Yurou makes, and you’ll like it. Don’t be picky, or I’ll kick you out.”

“You haven’t even made it official yet, and it’s already ‘my Yurou’?”

Xu Yun teased, “Does your Yurou know you talk like that?”

“Get lost! And remember to come early tonight!”

With that, Lin Wanzhou hung up, cursing with a laugh, and headed out to pick up the woman he liked.
