Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 85: 85 Maiqiu

”Mom, do you want our whole family to starve to death?

Fine, I’m not filial, Yang Minggang. You do whatever you want, but I won’t care for you anymore. You’re too disappointing. Everyone’s living for themselves. Isn’t it normal to help others after finishing our own work first?

If you want to make a fuss, go ahead. From now on, just pretend you don’t have a son like me.”

Old Mrs. Yang was really startled. ”Eldest, I didn’t mean it like that. I just thought we should harvest the wheat.

Your wheat is already home, but you can’t just watch your brothers’ wheat get soaked, right?”

”Hmph, when I was harvesting wheat, they were lying at home and didn’t come to help. You could watch and do nothing back then, but now that they’re anxious, you come to push me. I must not be your biological son.”

Yang Minggang turned the donkey cart around and paid no attention to the old lady sitting on the ground.

Old Mrs. Yang was at a loss for words when asked like this. Didn’t she just think there were many people helping her eldest son?

Seeing her eldest son and his family of five all busy, she regretted it. Wanting to win back her eldest son’s heart later would be difficult.

She stood up by herself and left dejectedly. She still forced it, didn’t she?

The Yang Family was still working in the field, but all five of them were not in a good mood.

At noon, Yuanyuan went back home, while the Yang Family ate the buns and pickles they brought to the field before continuing their work.

Hu Chunhua knew that Yang Minggang was in a bad mood, but she wasn’t in the mood to comfort her husband either. She was also in a bad mood.

This mother-in-law had been oppressing her for more than ten years, and now, despite separating from the family, she still wanted to bring trouble to their family.

In her dreams, there’s no way she’d agree to this, even if it meant ruining her reputation.

Yuanyuan came back an hour and a half later. Yang Xue was still following her, sowing seeds. It was only after seven in the evening when they went home; they could definitely finish planting by tomorrow morning.

Working non-stop for more than ten days, it was only thanks to the Spiritual Spring Water—otherwise, they would have collapsed long ago.

Fortunately, it would all be over tomorrow. However, she believed Old Mrs. Yang’s words; it should rain in the next few days. She just had that feeling.

The next day, when checking the fish and shrimp traps, the catch increased. Were they low on oxygen? It might rain today, right?

Yang Minggang noticed as well. So when Yuanyuan reached the field, all five of them had already started working.

The sky was particularly gloomy, making them even more anxious. But there was nothing they could do; no matter how anxious, they had to keep at it.

Yuanyuan hoped the rain would wait until the evening, else too many families would suffer losses.

With only a few parts of the field left, Yuanyuan didn’t go back but helped finish the planting.

Hu Chunhua sat by the field, ”Yuanyuan, thank you, Aunt.”

She smiled and shook her head, ”I’m heading home.” She pushed her cart, herded the sheep, and left.

No matter how angry Yang Minggang was, he still cared about his brothers. He told his wife before taking the donkey cart to his brothers’ field.

”Let’s hurry up and eat, and you three go with me to help at your grandma’s place.”

”Mom, let’s borrow Yuanyuan’s sheep so that we can finish faster.”

Hu Chunhua gritted her teeth. ”Fine. I’ll go borrow them, you three eat as you walk, and head to your grandma’s place first.”

The three kids obediently left. They all knew their family could live in a big house because their three uncles pooled their money together. Mom said their Grandma had money but didn’t contribute a dime.

It’s not about having milk; Grandma was never like a mom, but their Grandma’s house had always been better to them than their own Grandmother’s.

Yuanyuan had just fed the diluted Spiritual Spring Water to the mother sheep when Hu Chunhua arrived.

”Girl, Aunt needs to borrow the sheep. My mom’s field is large.” Hu Chunhua felt pretty embarrassed.

”Sure, Aunt, I just fed the sheep. You can take them.”

Yuanyuan was also worried about the sheep, but there was no choice, everyone was this exhausted.

After seeing Hu Chunhua off, Yuanyuan finally sat down to rest for a while. Later, she would have to look for the ducks and Ge. They weren’t afraid of the rain, but she feared they might not come back.

Feeling very hungry, she didn’t even want to eat, so she headed to the reservoir.

From a distance, she saw them still in the water. Standing on the bank, she shouted, and all the ducks and Ge swam over to the shore.

She herded them home, fed them, and then went into the space to take a shower and eat.

In the space, she fell asleep in a daze. When she got kicked out, she was still out of it.

It was already past three in the afternoon. Yuanyuan felt relaxed. After tidying up, she decided to go help Zhao Yanli’s family in the field.

Right now, only two people were planting in the field, while the rest had gone to the threshing ground.

”Aunt, you go to the threshing ground. I’ll help with planting, though I’m not very good at it.”

Han Lixia nodded gratefully, ”It’s okay, I see that you’re even better than me at it.”

Everyone was racing against time now.

Zhao Qingxiang guided the donkey cart, while Yuanyuan followed planting seeds.

There were still three acres left to plant, but it was much better than those who hadn’t even finished harvesting their wheat.

The two didn’t talk, considering their eight-year age difference, but Zhao Qingxiang was genuinely grateful to Yuanyuan.

Han Lixia reached the threshing ground where her second son and husband were pushing wheat grains home.

”Mom, why did you come over?”

”That girl Yuanyuan went over to help plant.”

Upon hearing this, Zhao Yanli smiled, ”Yuanyuan is really nice.”

The wheat had been threshed but needed sun drying at home. However, with rain imminent, drying was impossible, so Zhao Tian poured them directly on the floor in the house to let them air out moisture.

Yuanyuan worked until 7:30, but there was still over an acre left unplanted. It really couldn’t be helped; the donkey was too tired to move, and it was hard to see.

Yuanyuan said a word before going home, as the livestock at home still needed feeding.

Looking at the corn seedlings already sprouting, Yuanyuan left with a smile. She wasn’t afraid of anything now.

Returning home, she fed the pigs. Before leaving, she had already fed the chickens, ducks, and geese.

By this time, Hu Chunhua still hadn’t returned, indicating she wouldn’t come back today.

In the middle of the night, there was thunder and lightning. It was a torrential downpour.

This spring only had two small rains, and this one came at a really inopportune time. How many families still hadn’t harvested their wheat?

It kept raining the next morning, and it was steady. When will it stop? If it continues for days, that’d be troublesome.

This rain persisted until the afternoon, when the sun finally came out. Seeing the rainbow in the sky, as beautiful as it was, many couldn’t appreciate it.

The sheep still hadn’t been returned today. Yuanyuan frowned but eventually held back her discomfort and went to Hu Chunhua’s house.

Walking through the mud was really uncomfortable, but her concern for the sheep overcame her germaphobia.
