Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 44: Chapter 44: ’Killer God’ Uncle

”Mom! Brother!” Luo Qianqian was already sitting curbside, lost and forlorn among the group of five, even before the car reached the Youth Palace: ”Xiao Yu, Godfather, Godmother!”

The driver immediately stopped the car, and with the ’Killer God’s help, Luo Qianqian opened the car door, ran a couple of steps, and jumped into Luo’s Mom’s arms: ”Mom, wuu wuu wuu.”

”Qianqian?!!!” Luo’s Mom exclaimed in both shock and joy as she embraced the tiny figure in her arms: ”You’ve had me worried to death, let’s see if you dare to run off again!”

”Qianqian, are you okay, are you hurt?” Luo Shufan, seeing Mom had already embraced her, hurriedly pulled his sister aside to check her over: ”From now on, you must stay with me wherever you go!”

”Qianqian, how did you get back?” Mother He also pulled Luo Qianqian aside to inspect her, before relaxing and asking.

”Oh, right, I have to thank this big... uncle for saving me. When I woke up, I was in the uncle’s car, and he said he was taking me home,” Luo Qianqian hurriedly introduced her family to the black-faced ’Killer God’.

The ’Killer God’ got out of the car from the other side, with an entrance bgm to boot, and Luo Qianqian noticed that everyone around was as tense as if they were on edge, especially Luo’s Mom, whose eyes were wide with astonishment. That is until the ’Killer God’ turned around, standing expressionless before everyone.

”Xi Yue!” Luo’s Mom shouted in a state of collapse.

It was indeed the wife and child of the third brother, the ’Killer God’ thought with a relaxed face.

”Good day, third sister-in-law, I am Luo Xiying,” the ’Killer God’, Luo Xiying, stood in front of Luo’s Mom and performed a standard military salute.

”Luo Xiying, it’s not him...” Luo’s Mom stood frozen, then staggered and sat down on the ground, her eyes devoid of any sparkle.

A third sister-in-law? Mom is the sister-in-law of this black-faced man? And he also has the surname Luo, which means... He’s Dad’s brother? Luo Qianqian covered her mouth in shock, thinking it couldn’t be that a random kidnapping would lead her to members of the Luo family she never met in her past life?

”Third sister-in-law, my brother has passed away, I hope you will grieve properly,” Luo Xiying said as he helped Luo’s Mom to her feet, with a look of profound sorrow.

”What? Grieve properly? Passed away? All Xi Yue did was resolutely go through divorce proceedings with me and then left, how could he not be here anymore???” Luo’s Mom grabbed Luo Xiying by the collar, her eyes slowly filling with red veins and unstoppable tears: I could pretend you were dead because I still had two children, I could even tell them you were no longer here, but how could you really be dead?

”Divorced?” Luo Xiying muttered softly in stunned disbelief: ”No wonder...”

So? The father from her past life, who was thought to have abandoned his wife and children, had actually divorced her mother, and it wasn’t without good reason that he left his wife and kids behind?

Luo Qianqian, holding her brother’s hand, couldn’t help herself as tears uncontrollably streamed down. Luo Shufan too bit his lower lip, tears falling as he feared making a sound.

”Qianqian, don’t cry, even if you don’t have a father, you still have my dad. I’ll share my dad with you, so please don’t cry, okay?” He Wenyu, though drowsy and unsteady, still got down from Father He’s embrace, hugged Luo Qianqian, and comforted her. Despite her young age, she could sense the joys and sorrows, the vicissitudes of life.

”I don’t want to cry either. I’ve never seen my dad, not even once, so why is he gone? I can’t control my tears.” Luo Qianqian wiped away her tears haphazardly. She had never met the man before, so why did she feel so upset? Wasn’t she always told that her dad was dead, that she and her brother were fatherless wild children, so why couldn’t she stop the tears now?

”Third sister-in-law, if I may be so bold to ask, is this Luo Qianqian my brother’s child? In which month was she born?” Luo Xiying, looking at the unquestionably real tears, stifled the sorrow in his heart and asked the question he most wanted to know.

”What are you talking about? If Qianqian isn’t Xi Yue’s, whose else could she be?” Luo’s Mom’s voice was hoarse as she looked at Luo Xiying, ”Born full-term in May.”

”As I thought, my Third Brother didn’t know about this, right?”

”I was planning to surprise him after he finished his work, but as soon as he came back, he was in a rush to find me and go to the civil affairs bureau to get a divorce. He had no mood to listen to this,” Luo’s Mom said with a sad face, ”He said it was for my own good, for Shufan’s good, that we couldn’t be together, that he was sorry for what he did to our mother and son.”

”Sister-in-law, it’s all in the past. My Third Brother had his own compelling reasons at the time; otherwise, he wouldn’t have left you for just a few days and then... passed away... Ah, he truly did it for your and the child’s safety,” Luo Xiying explained.

”Big sister, although it’s not great to interrupt your stroll down memory lane, wouldn’t it be better to go to the police station first?” He’s father, seeing his own wife, daughter, goddaughter, godson, and even Luo’s Mom crying without thinking about the current issues, had to speak up.

”Ah, right, Qianqian is back,” Luo’s Mom said as if awakening from a dream. She wiped away her tears but then looked at Luo Shufan, He Wenyu, who were hugging each other and dozing off in utter relief, and the bright-eyed Luo Qianqian, and said, ”Big Brother, Sister-in-law, you go ahead and take Xiao Yu and Shufan home to sleep. I’ll take Qianqian to the station myself; the children are all exhausted.”

He’s father looked at the two children and his wife, who showed signs of fatigue, then looked at the man standing beside Luo’s Mom who claimed to be her brother-in-law, and nodded his head, ”Alright, then we’ll take Shufan with us. Come to me if there’s any trouble. I am the child’s godfather, after all.”

”Okay, then I’ll thank you, Big Brother,” Luo’s Mom An Zilan nodded her head and watched as He Jun carried He Wenyu, with his left hand holding Luo Shufan, and his right hand linked with Mother He’s, presenting a picture of family harmony.

”I’ll drive you two there. It’s convenient since I have a car,” Luo Xiying opened the car for Luo Qianqian and Luo’s Mom to sit in before considerately closing the door. He then went around to the other side to sit in the passenger seat: ”Where to? How do I get there?”

”Just go straight down this road and then take a right. After you see the traffic lights, turn left, and you should see it,” Luo’s Mom replied, holding Luo Qianqian tightly. She carefully checked her over again before settling down and gently patted the girl’s back, God knows how scared she’d been in those few hours.

The car could go no further when it reached the intersection because the police station entrance was jam-packed with cars, lined up all the way to the intersection. Zhang Ye was standing at the main entrance with a sullen face, being lectured by the deputy director with a finger pointed at his head.

”I stressed repeatedly before departure not to act on your own. How could you not take that seriously?”

”...” My fault, huh? Zhang Ye kept his head low and nodded, unable to voice out that it was Bai Yixian who had discovered their trained police team’s hiding spot first, which was quite an embarrassment.

”We didn’t manage to rescue the people and lost all leads. Now we’ve even lost the chance to catch those few. You, you, you, go home and reflect on your actions!”

”Officer Zhang,” Luo’s Mom, seeing Zhang Ye slumping in front of the deputy director, immediately got out of the car, cradling her daughter who was found again, and walked towards the police station entrance.

”Ms. An...I’m sorry...Huh? Ah! Luo Qianqian?!” Zhang Ye, upon hearing the sound of footsteps, turned around with an apologetic bow, thinking he had ruined all the leads, unsure how to face this mother, but then he looked up and saw Luo Qianqian in Luo’s Mom’s arms, his mouth gaping open in shock: ”Chief, Team Leader, Luo Qianqian is back!!!”

”Feels like the return of the Great Demon King,” Luo Qianqian thought to herself with a bit of inner sarcasm while lying in Luo’s Mom’s arms, was it ’Grey Wolf’s ’I will definitely come back?’ or ’Voldemort returns’?

”Ms. An, what’s going on here?”

”I don’t know the specifics, but it was the kind gentleman in that car who brought Qianqian back,” Luo’s Mom turned and pointed towards the car, only to realize that Luo Xiying was already standing behind her, ”uh, this gentleman here.”

”Damn, isn’t this the ’Black-faced Evil God’ my brother mentioned?” Zhang Ye, looking at Luo Xiying behind An Zilan, continued his wide-mouthed expression, recalling his brother’s description from the photos during his vacation leave and the advice given: Better to get shot than to mess with the two Evil Gods.
