Peerless Divine Doctor

Yan Ling’s expression faltered, and after a moment she said, ”I’ve been through a lot already and have learned to let go of some things. If I really have to share you with another woman, although I’d be somewhat unwilling, I would accept it. However, I can’t guarantee the other women would.”

”Sister Yan, you’re too kind.”

Ye Luo, his face beaming with excitement, hugged Yan Ling’s head again and kissed her.

”You’re taking advantage of me again,” Yan Ling playfully glared at Ye Luo.

”You’re my woman, it’s normal to take advantage of my own woman,” Ye Luo said with a chuckling smile.

”You... you’re something else,” Yan Ling said, shaking her head helplessly.

After breakfast, Ye Luo went straight to Ling Corporation and began his new day of work.

But to say he was working, it was more like staying in the office and playing games, since as the deputy head of security, aside from checking on the other security guards’ standing posts, he didn’t have much to do.

However, today, while Ye Luo was doing his rounds, he saw a figure - Ling Qingya’s father, the chairman of Ling Corporation, Ling Huatao.

Having been at Ling Corporation for quite some time, it was the first time Ye Luo had seen him within the company. However, Ye Luo wasn’t too fond of this Ling Huatao, always feeling that the guy was too cunning.

”Ye Luo, how’s it been staying in this company?”

Ling Huatao looked at Ye Luo and seemed very enthusiastic.

”It’s been good, the job is great,” Ye Luo said with a grin.

”That’s good to hear, I was worried you, being coddled from a young age, might not adjust well to working here. But it seems that you’ve adapted to your position quite nicely, which is great. I heard you’re now the deputy head of the security department, right? This job suits you well for the time being.”

Ling Huatao said with a smile, but his words carried a hint of sarcasm.

Damn sneaky old man, you’re insulting me in so many ways, aren’t you, Ye Luo muttered inwardly, feeling increasingly averse to this man who would soon be his father-in-law. Every word from this old man was laced with hidden taunts, subtly belittling him.

But Ye Luo wasn’t angry at all and he chuckled, ”You’re right, the job really is quite good. After all, being Qing Ya’s fiancé, if I had too high a position, it would cause dissatisfaction among others, wouldn’t it? Qing Ya and I are a perfect match - one of us takes care of the company’s upper echelons and the other takes care of the lower levels. This works out pretty well.”

Hearing Ye Luo’s words, a flicker of surprise passed through Ling Huatao’s narrowed eyes before he said something and headed for the elevator.

Entering the elevator, Ling Huatao’s expression turned cold, and he let out a sneer.

”Old geezer, looking down on me, huh? Just you wait.” Ye Luo snorted coldly, turned, and went back to his office to play LOL.

Meanwhile, on the twenty-fifth floor, in Qing Ya’s office, she looked somewhat surprised at Ling Huatao sitting in front of her.

”Dad, you’re going to Capital City too?”

”Yes, I’ll be going with you to Capital City this time, and I’ve heard you’re bringing that Ye Luo fellow. I think it’s better if he doesn’t go.”

Ling Huatao spoke indifferently.

”Why?” Qing Ya looked puzzled.

”This time I’m going to Capital City to introduce you to a marriage prospect. It wouldn’t be good to bring him along,” Ling Huatao said outright.

”What? Engaged?” Ling Qingya’s complexion changed, showing great surprise.

Ling Huatao nodded and said, ”Indeed, this engagement has been carefully arranged by me, it’s absolutely more suitable for you than Ye Luo.”

Ling Qingya furrowed her brows, retorting, ”Father, there’s no need. No matter what, Ye Luo and I are still engaged, and grandfather won’t agree to it either.”

”If it were before, I wouldn’t oppose this engagement, but now the Ye Family is gone. All that’s left is that boy Ye Luo all by himself. Even he has to work at Ling Corporation to support himself. How could he bring you happiness? He doesn’t deserve to be my, Ling Huatao’s, son-in-law.”

Ling Huatao spoke disdainfully, ”Moreover, as long as neither you nor Ye Luo wish to be together, grandfather’s insistence will be pointless.”

”How is that possible? How could that guy not agree?” Ling Qingya expressed her doubt.

”I will take care of that boy. No matter what, you must attend this arranged meeting. It’s a tremendous opportunity for both you and the Ling Family, not to be missed.”

”Dad...”

Before Ling Qingya could finish, Ling Huatao interrupted her, waving his hand, ”Enough, no more. This matter is settled. We’ll take the plane the day after tomorrow, and we’ll head to the Capital City together. If this engagement works out, it will be of great help to your upcoming cooperation in the Capital City as well.”

After finishing, Ling Huatao turned and left the office, leaving Ling Qingya alone with her brows tightly knit, deep in thought.

”Ye Luo, can we go out and chat?”

Just as Ye Luo was engrossed in playing LOL, the figure of Ling Huatao suddenly appeared in the office and said.

”What’s the matter? Uncle Ling, if it’s okay, let’s just talk here.” Ye Luo’s eyes fixed on Ling Huatao, unsure of what the latter was plotting.

”Let’s find a place to sit down outside and talk,” Ling Huatao said and then Ye Luo followed Ling Huatao out of the company to a nearby teahouse, reserving a private room.

”Uncle Ling, if you have something to say, just say it.”

Ye Luo looked on, somewhat bored, as Ling Huatao sat there making tea.

Ling Huatao poured a cup of tea for both Ye Luo and himself, took a sip, and said, ”This tea’s aroma is rich and fragrant. Not bad.”

Setting down the teacup, Ling Huatao finally started to talk about the main issue, his gaze fixed on Ye Luo.

”Ye Luo, I know that originally my father and the Ye patriarch decided on the marriage between you and Qing Ya. I was not opposed to this marriage, it’s just that some things have happened, and we need to confront them. Now that the Ye Family has fallen, you are the only one left, and you are barely able to support yourself, let alone take care of Qing Ya.”

At this point, Ling Huatao leisurely took another sip from his teacup, glancing at Ye Luo whose expression remained unchanged.

”What are you getting at, Uncle Ling?”

Ye Luo watched Ling Huatao expressionlessly.

”This engagement is no longer fair to Qing Ya, and besides, you two are from two different worlds now. So I believe it would be best for both your sake and Qing Ya’s to dissolve the engagement.”

”Is this Qing Ya’s wish, or the old Mr. Ling’s?”

Ye Luo picked up the teacup in front of him, tasted it, and spoke indifferently.

”This is my idea, as well as Qing Ya’s wish. You know she’s been against this engagement from the start. If it weren’t for my father, she wouldn’t have allowed you to work at Ling Corporation. So, I hope you’ll agree to dissolve this engagement. Of course, I’ll provide you with a fair compensation.”
