NTR: Barbarian Harem Conquest

Morning light came in softly through the high windows of the guest hall.

Kane woke to the system window already open at the edge of his vision, clinical and unsympathetic.

[Recovery Status]

[Rib integrity: 68 % – heavy activity restricted for 36–48 hours]

[Left forearm/shoulder complex: 61 % – brace remains mandatory]

[Residual Full Rage backlash: neurological fatigue, elevated tissue stress]

[Shared Bed Recovery bonus: active]

[Projected full clearance: 2 days at current rate]

[Recommendation: remain horizontal, avoid sudden torque, do not accept challenges from striped or orange-haired partners]

He dismissed it with a slow blink and immediately regretted moving.

The ribs made their opinion known. The braced arm was a dead weight. Everything else was simply sore on a deep, structural level.

Thora was already awake on his right, propped on one elbow, watching him with the flat expression she used when she was deciding whether someone needed food, water, or a controlled beating.

”You’re awake. Good. You’re not getting up.”

Kane’s voice came out rough.

”I need to piss, and I need to know what day it is.”

”It’s the day you stay in that bed until everyone stops looking at you like a damaged cart horse.”

Thora reached over, pressed two fingers lightly against the bandaged section of his ribs, and watched his face when the pressure landed.

”Still tender. You’re not cleared. Don’t test me.”

From the other side of the bed, Misha made a sleepy, irritated sound and then sat up properly, white hair still half in its bun from the night before.

Eyes took in the afterglow that always lingered around him when he checked status too hard.

”Your ribs look good,” she said.

”You’re not walking the walls today. You’re not training the elves. You’re not doing anything that involves twisting.”

Sira’s orange head popped up from somewhere near his knees, hair a disaster, grin already in place.

”He’s going to try anyway. Look at his face. That’s the ’I missed you, but I’m about to be an idiot’ face.”

Kane looked at the three of them, Thora’s scarred solidity, Misha’s precise stare, Sira’s unrepentant brightness, and the thing that had sat under the exhaustion and the pain since he walked back into Sylvander rose without permission.

”I did miss you,” he said, quieter.

”More than the reports. More than the clock. Lying in that resting chamber in Berakamon, listing everything that was broken, the only clear thought I kept getting was that I wanted this bed and the noise in it.”

Sira’s grin softened at the edges.

Thora’s expression didn’t change much, but her hand settled more carefully on his good shoulder.

Misha’s fingers found his and laced in without comment.

Kessa chose that moment to push the door open with her hip, carrying a tray that smelled of broth and fresh bread.

Striped ears were forward; she looked entirely too satisfied with life.

Griselda followed, already dressed, yellow eyes sweeping the bed and the brace with professional assessment.

Kessa set the tray down on the side table with a small flourish.

”He lives. And he still looks like someone used him as a practice post. I brought food so the original three don’t start chewing the furniture out of worry.”

Thora’s eyes narrowed.

”The original three are managing. The tiger can put the tray down and stop looking smug before noon.”

Kessa’s tail flicked once, pure insolence.

”I’m not smug. I’m recovered. There’s a difference. Some of us made sure the Chief’s recovery started on schedule.”

Sira sat up fully, pointing at her with a crust of bread she had already stolen from the tray.

”You are exactly smug. You had a private recovery festival while we were here rationing wine and teaching elves which end of the spear is which. You don’t get to be smug and feed him. Those are the rules.”

Griselda’s voice cut in, mild and precise.

”The food is useful. The smugness is optional. His left arm is still braced, and the ribs will not tolerate a wrestling match between the five of you on this mattress. Eat first. Territorial displays second.”

Kane accepted the bowl Misha passed him and ate because arguing would cost more energy than the broth was worth.

The simple heat of it settled something in his chest that had nothing to do with injury.

He watched them bicker around him, Thora and Kessa trading low barbs, Sira escalating for entertainment, Misha mediating with the same tone she used on hostile nobles, Griselda occasionally offering unhelpful factual corrections, and the missing-them feeling sharpened instead of easing.

He had walked through measures and mutations and a Supreme Devil’s remote sneer, and still the thing that landed hardest was this noisy, complicated, living room.

A knock at the outer door interrupted the next round of threats.

An elven runner in formal sash waited with a sealed letter bearing the iron-and-bone mark Marisa had claimed.

Misha took it, broke the seal, and scanned the contents with rapid golden eyes. Her expression shifted by degrees, first relief, then calculation, then the quieter weight of new information.

She looked up at Kane.

”Berakamon formal report. Breeding grounds are being emptied and the captives processed for release or return. Essence laboratories sealed and scheduled for burning. First southern and river contingents have begun staging toward the agreed points. Marisa’s exact words: ’The center holds. The debt is acknowledged. Do not die before the clock runs out.’”

Kane nodded once, filing the military reality.

Thora noticed the change in his face.

”There’s more. You’re doing the look.”

He glanced at Sira, Kessa, and Griselda, then back to Thora and Misha.

”Later. Private.”

Sira immediately looked offended.

”We just got you back, and you’re already doing private briefings?”

”It’s not politics,” Kane said.

”It’s the part that sat down in the arena after the head came off and spoke with yellow eyes. You three can hear it. I want Thora and Misha first.”

Griselda inclined her head, already understanding.

Kessa made an unhappy sound but steered Sira out with the promise of food and the threat of more training if she complained.

The door closed.

Kane set the empty bowl aside and let the system’s recovery numbers sit in the background while he chose the words.

”After Grathak’s head hit the stone, the body stood back up. Dark energy, colder than the mutation. Two yellow eyes. It called itself Beelzebub. It called Grathak a pawn, useful for refining essence and testing densification limits. It said they would come. I cut the projection apart before it finished the sentence, but the signature was clear. Supreme Devil. Remote, but real.”

Misha’s eyes widened.

”You encountered a devil?”
