NTR: Barbarian Harem Conquest

Kane walked the corridors in silence.

The pure-blood arguments still echoed behind the closed doors of the council hall, but no one stopped him.

Warriors stepped aside.

Attendants kept their eyes down.

The challenge had been accepted in the open; until sunset tomorrow, the outsider who had forced it carried a temporary, dangerous immunity.

He used it to reach the quarters without further conversation.

The door closed behind him.

Mjoldr settled against the wall.

Kane sat on the edge of the low table, rested his forearms on his knees, and called the full status window for the first time in days.

Blue light resolved in clean lines across his vision.

Kane read every line twice.

The numbers were higher than they had been when he first entered Berakamon, but the gap against an essence-fed, two-hundred-year densified emperor remained real.

Controlled Berserker Output at ninety percent could close distance and create the opening.

It could not erase the raw mass difference if the fight stretched past the first half-minute.

The plan stayed the same as the private-audience version: end it cleanly and early, or the densification and recovery would grind him down in front of every banner that mattered.

He closed the window.

The door opened without a knock.

Kessa stepped inside, striped tail already moving in short arcs, ears forward.

She closed it behind her and leaned against it, arms crossed.

”You’re sure about this?”

Kane looked up.

”About what?”

”Fighting him for her. I know you’re only doing this to keep the promise with Marisa.”

He held her stare without flinching.

”No. I don’t care about Marisa’s feelings, Kessa. But I do think she’d be a better leader than her brother. And I need someone within my grasp when this empire turns outward. That is the calculation. Not her bed.”

Kessa’s ears flattened a fraction, but the possessive heat in her posture eased into something sharper and more practical.

”But Grathak—”

”I heard enough praise about him.” Kane stood, rolled the still-aching forearm, and tested the range of motion.

”Tomorrow it’s either his talks come true, or a random barbarian takes his head off. Those are the only two endings the packs will accept after the challenge was spoken in open council.”

The door opened again before Kessa could answer.

Marisa stepped in, dark wrap neat, eyes already assessing the tension in the room.

”How are you sure he would fight fair?”

Kane turned slightly so he could see both women.

Marisa continued.

”Grathak might be a warrior, but if the result were to lose his face, he would rather kill you with him than let you stand on top. A public loss under the rules he accepted would end more than the essence of the work. It would end the version of the throne he has spent two hundred years building. Don’t expect the denunciation to be the only advantage he brings into the arena.”

”I had to face him more or less.” Kane’s tone stayed flat.

”A private knife after the southern meeting would have fractured the banners I need. A public refusal would have given the pure-bloods the story they wanted. The rematch under open rules was the only path that kept the southern corridors in play and forced the packs to watch the result instead of being told it. Fair or not, the fight happens at sunset tomorrow.”

Kessa pushed off the door and crossed to him, striped fingers briefly gripping his wrist hard enough to feel the residual cuts.

”Then you finish it early. No measuring. No letting him recover. You put him down before the essence, and the mass turns it into a grinding match. Clear?”

”Clear.”

Marisa’s gaze flicked between them, then settled on Kane.

”I will have the succession pieces ready the moment the arena floor decides the outcome. If he cheats, if handlers or pure-blood retainers move the instant you gain the upper hand, I will still move. The southern warriors already staging will hold the junctions either way. But the cleanest path remains the one where you are the one still standing when the light fails.”

Kane nodded once.

”Then both of you leave me the rest of the day. I have angles left to burn into the body. After that I sleep. Tomorrow we end the uncertainty.”

Kessa held his wrist a moment longer, then released him and left without further argument.

Marisa lingered only long enough to meet his eyes once more, calculation and something thinner, more personal, moving behind the amber, before she followed.

The chamber fell quiet.

Kane didn’t sit again.

He spent the remaining daylight on the secondary grounds, running the unarmed versions of the sequences he had drilled with Mjoldr.

Throat lines adapted for bare hands and knees.

Spine drops that used an opponent’s densified mass against itself.

Short, vicious bursts of Controlled Rage at ninety percent timed to a single decisive window, no more than five or six seconds, because anything longer favored the essence-fed recovery.

The system fed micro-adjustments between repetitions.

He reopened the forearm cut once more on purpose and catalogued exactly how far the pain partitioning would carry him while still throwing a killing strike.

When full dark settled, he returned to the chamber, washed the sweat and blood, and lay down between Kessa and Griselda without speaking.

Shared Bed Recovery took hold.

The system’s numbers climbed in the quiet.

He slept.

Tomorrow, the beast empire’s hierarchy would change forever.
