Chapter 186: MSOC: Chapter 186

As they stepped forward, the surrounding white mist suddenly intensified, becoming thick and viscous, like ink, reducing visibility to near zero.

What unnerved Pakura most was the mist’s immobility.

Normal mist shifts with air currents and wind, but this mist was stagnant, completely still.

Only Kirigakure’s silent killing technique could achieve this effect.

Whoosh! Whoosh!

Two sharp sounds cut through the air. Two points of cold light appeared in the mist. Before Pakura could react, two specially crafted large blades slashed towards her throat.

Pakura’s expression changed drastically. Without hesitation, she formed hand seals.

”Scorch Release: Great Steaming Explosive Blast!”

A wave of intense heat erupted, instantly deflecting the blades and sending the two attackers flying with pained cries.

Scorch Release, a rare kekkei genkai, unleashed a blast of scorching heat, easily burning or even dehydrating opponents to the point of mummification.

Seeing the attackers repelled, Pakura’s expression darkened. ”Hozuki Mangetsu, what’s going on?! Remember, we’re here for a truce! Hesha, Chunin (Kai) where are you?!”

As the mist thickened, Pakura recalled Kai’s words: Careful you don’t get sold and still count the money! She couldn’t figure out who was betraying her.

”Pakura-sama, are you alright?” Hesha burst through the mist, appearing beside her.

Pakura breathed a sigh of relief. ”I’m fine, but Kirigakure has likely double-crossed us. We need to inform the Kazekage immediately, or Kirigakure will seize the advantage.”

”I’ll use Wind Release to try and clear this mist. You escape; if possible, find Chunin and bring him with you.”

Pakura, a renowned Sunagakure hero and near-Kage level shinobi, issued these commands calmly and efficiently, demonstrating her superior battlefield adaptability.

”Go!” Pakura exhaled deeply, rapidly forming hand seals to unleash her strongest Wind Release jutsu.

But before she could, a shuriken whistled past her ear.

”Pakura-sama, you can’t be left unharmed. Die!” Hesha’s face contorted in a cruel grin as he lunged at her back with a kunai.

The close proximity and the time it took to perform the jutsu made defense impossible. Pakura could only watch in disbelief.

”But don’t worry, your death will pave the way for a truce between Sunagakure and Kirigakure. You’ll be hailed as a hero even in death,” Hesha roared maniacally, relishing the prospect of killing a hero.

Pakura was stunned, never imagining she would die not on the battlefield, but by the hand of a comrade. She remembered Kai’s strange words, a bitter taste in her mouth.

Psh!

A sound like cloth tearing echoed. Hesha’s eyes widened in disbelief as a crimson stream appeared on his throat; his neck was constricted, severed, and his head flew through the air, landing heavily on the ground.

Pakura was shocked, watching the kunai fall to the ground. She’d glimpsed a silver thread.

In the mist, Mangetsu frowned, addressing a sensory ninja. ”What’s the situation?”

Before he finished, a ghostly figure emerged, a needle-like blade swiftly severing the sensory ninja’s throat. Blood sprayed, alarming Mangetsu and his team.

”That’s the silent killing technique!” a sharp-eyed Kirigakure ninja exclaimed. They were elite assassins, but compared to Zabuza Momochi, they were vastly inferior. Their own technique had been used against them.

”Don’t panic! I don’t believe anyone surpasses us in the silent killing technique. Remember, we are the hunters!” Mangetsu said, his face grim.

This mission was vital for the Hozuki clan’s revival; failure would doom even his brother, Suigetsu.

”Attack!” Mangetsu roared, his team surging forward. In the mist, they were in their element. They believed that superior numbers would overcome any opponent.

But as they advanced, they seemed to hit an invisible wall. Their faces contorted in disbelief as they saw the hidden danger in the mist.

”My apologies. I’m the hunter,” a playful voice echoed.

The sound of cloth tearing filled the mist.

”Ninjutsu: Long Needle Ground Spider!”

Gleaming wires, sharp as blades, tightened, instantly bisecting the Kirigakure ninjas. Blood sprayed like fountains. Mangetsu’s face hardened.
