Chapter 479: Merging with the world system

Deep inside the forest, the gray mist drifted quietly between broken trees and torn earth. New monsters were already beginning to emerge from the deeper regions, drawn by instinct and corruption.

Yet Ethan had stopped walking.

Thousands of radiant clones still stood scattered across the battlefield, but none of them moved. They remained like silent statues of golden light.

Ethan stood among them with his eyes half closed.

Inside his mind, Yumiko spoke calmly.

[Master, the conditions are now optimal. The world system of Elysium can be contacted.]

Ethan replied without opening his eyes.

”Then begin the process.”

For a moment, Yumiko was silent.

Then she spoke again, her tone slightly more serious.

”Master, once the binding begins, your law strand will be used as the bridge to connect with the world system.”

Ethan already understood what that meant.

”How much will be consumed?”

”Almost all of it.”

Ethan slowly opened his eyes.

The gray mist continued to drift around him.

His law strand had just reached one hundred kilometers. The power flowing through his body had multiplied several times. If he continued absorbing energy from the corrupted beasts, it would only keep growing.

But Ethan had already made his decision.

”Do it,” he said calmly.

[Yes, Master.]

The moment Yumiko began the process, something inside Ethan’s body started to change.

The enormous law strand within him trembled slightly.

Then it began to collapse.

The vast thread of divine law that stretched for one hundred kilometers started compressing inward like a collapsing star.

Ninety kilometers.

Eighty.

Seventy.

The divine energy inside Ethan’s body rapidly faded.

Outside, nothing unusual could be seen.

The adventurers on the city wall could still see thousands of glowing clones moving deeper into the forest. To them, it simply looked like Ethan had continued hunting the remaining monsters.

Even the level seven envoy from the Ragnarok Clan noticed nothing strange.

The entire process was happening internally.

Inside Ethan’s body, the massive strand of law was disappearing.

Fifty kilometers.

Thirty.

Twenty.

Ethan felt the strength leaving his body, but his expression remained calm.

Ten kilometers.

Five.

One.

The collapse finally slowed when only a tiny fragment remained.

Not meters.

Not even a full meter.

Only a few centimeters of law strand remained floating within him like a thin thread of light.

Everything else was gone.

Consumed as the price of contacting the world system.

For the first time since arriving in Elysium, Ethan felt truly weak.

His overwhelming divine power had vanished.

At that moment, a new voice appeared inside his mind.

It was not Yumiko.

The voice carried no emotion.

It sounded calm and vast, like the voice of the world itself.

[Welcome to the world of Elysium, Ethan Hunt. You are now being merged with the world system.]

Ethan stood completely still.

A moment later, the voice continued.

[The merge is successful. You can now see your status panel.]

A faint transparent panel appeared before his eyes.

Words slowly formed on its surface.

[Name: Ethan Hunt

Level: 1

Evolution Points: 0/100

Title: None]

Ethan quietly observed the panel.

His level had dropped to one.

But he was not surprised.

The source of his strength had always been his law strand. Now that almost all of it was gone, the system naturally evaluated him as a beginner.

After a moment, Ethan spoke.

”Yumiko, what about you?”

Her voice answered immediately.

[Master, I have also merged. Now you will have to kill one monster at every level, and I will be able to double the points every day. You can also manually earn points.]

Ethan nodded slightly.

”Great. But I think I should leave now since my strength has taken a huge blow.”

At that moment, a loud roar echoed through the forest.

Ethan turned his head.

A massive boar burst out from the trees, charging directly toward him.

The creature’s body was huge, covered in thick black hide, and its tusks were sharp like spears.

Ethan immediately judged its strength.

It was a level three monster.

Ethan raised his hand.

The Sword of Infinity appeared in his grip.

However, he quickly made a calculation.

With his current condition, even with the sword, he could only fight at the strength of a level two.

In this world, millions of level two fighters could not defeat a single level three monster.

The gap between the levels was absolute.

Ethan did not hesitate.

He immediately turned around and started running.

But the boar was on a completely different level.

Its massive body crashed through trees and rocks as it charged forward.

The distance between them was closing very quickly.

The massive boar tore through the forest like a living avalanche.

Tree trunks shattered as its enormous body forced a path through the dense woodland. Its hooves struck the ground with explosive force, sending soil and broken roots flying in every direction.

Ethan moved as fast as he could.

Branches whipped past his face while his boots barely touched the ground. His breathing remained controlled, but the pressure behind him was impossible to ignore.

The creature was gaining.

Every second the distance shrank further.

Ethan quickly analyzed the situation while running.

His current strength was roughly equivalent to a level two fighter. That alone was not the problem. The real issue was the difference between levels in this world.

A level three monster was not simply stronger than level two.

It was overwhelmingly stronger.

The difference was so extreme that even millions of level two fighters would struggle to defeat a single level three beast. The gap between each level was almost like the difference between species.

The boar roared again.

The sound shook the forest canopy.

Ethan glanced behind him briefly.

The monster was only twenty meters away now.

Its enormous tusks glowed faintly with corrupted energy as it accelerated again.

”So persistent,” Ethan muttered quietly.

He suddenly changed direction, sliding sideways between two massive trees. The boar crashed directly through the trunks without slowing down, splintering them like dry sticks.

The ground trembled violently.

Ethan knew he could not outrun the beast for long. The creature’s raw physical power gave it far greater speed and endurance.

He needed something else.

His eyes focused.

Space around his body twisted slightly.

A faint ripple appeared.

Then Ethan vanished.

He reappeared nearly twenty meters ahead.

Teleportation.

The ability was not as powerful as before, but the remnant of his law strand still allowed limited spatial movement.

Ethan continued running immediately after appearing.

Behind him the boar skidded to a halt in confusion before roaring in fury again. It resumed the chase with even greater aggression.

Ethan repeated the process.

A ripple in space.

Another short teleport.

Then running again.

The distance between them fluctuated, but the monster continued closing the gap slowly.

Ethan frowned slightly.

His teleportation range was limited. Each jump only covered a small distance, and he could not use it continuously without exhausting himself.

However, one thing worked in his favor.

Low level monsters in this world could not use techniques.

They relied purely on physical ability.

Which meant the boar could not predict or counter spatial movement.

Ethan teleported again.

Then again.

Each time the monster had to adjust its charge.

Even so, the gap continued shrinking.

The forest opened slightly ahead.

Ethan landed after another teleport and suddenly noticed movement in front of him.

A small creature crawled out from behind a fallen log.

It looked like a twisted reptilian beast barely the size of a large dog. Its scales were cracked and gray, and its eyes glowed faintly with corrupted energy.

Ethan sensed its aura instantly.

Level one.

His eyes sharpened.

Without slowing down, he raised the Sword of Infinity.

The blade flashed once.

A clean, precise slash cut through the creature’s body.

The monster split apart before it could even react. Its remains dissolved into faint gray particles that quickly vanished into the air.

Ethan did not stop moving.

A soft chime sounded in his mind.

[Ding! You have gained 1 evolution point.]

A small smile appeared on his face.

Behind him the level three boar burst into the clearing again, its furious roar echoing across the forest.

Ethan teleported once more.

Then again.

Each jump carried him deeper into the forest while the monster continued its relentless pursuit.

From the distant city wall, several observers were watching this entire scene.

Among them stood the envoy of the Ragnarok Clan.

His sharp eyes followed Ethan’s movements carefully.

He had originally intended to observe the young man after witnessing the massive destruction earlier. But what he saw now puzzled him.

The boy who had wiped out thousands of corrupted beasts moments ago was now fleeing from a single level three monster.

The envoy’s eyes narrowed slightly.

Something about the situation felt strange.

Yet one detail caught his attention.

The spatial distortion.

”That is teleportation,” he murmured quietly.

One of his subordinates looked confused. ”Sir?”

The envoy did not answer.

His figure suddenly disappeared from the city wall.

A fraction of a second later he appeared high above the forest canopy.

Below him Ethan ran between the trees while the gigantic boar closed in rapidly.

The envoy observed the scene calmly for a moment.

Then he lifted his hand.

His fingers snapped once.

The sound was soft.

Almost insignificant.

But the effect was immediate.

The charging boar suddenly froze mid step.

Its massive body disintegrated instantly.

Not blood.

Not flesh.

Its entire existence collapsed into countless shimmering particles that scattered into the air like cosmic dust.

The forest became silent again.

Ethan felt the pressure behind him vanish.

He slowed down and stopped running.

The sudden disappearance of the monster was impossible to miss.

He turned around cautiously.

A figure floated several meters above the ground nearby.

Tall.

Sharp features.

Cold eyes.

The silver and blue armor of the Ragnarok Clan reflected faint sunlight through the trees.

Level seven.

Ethan immediately recognized the man.

The envoy slowly descended until his boots touched the ground.

His gaze examined Ethan calmly, as if studying something rare.

For a moment neither of them spoke.

Ethan finally sheathed the Sword of Infinity.

Then he stepped forward and gave a small respectful bow.

”Thank you, sir.”

His tone was calm and sincere.

Without the envoy’s intervention, the battle would have ended very differently.
