Chapter 462: The ingredients for the pills arrived

In the absolute void, where space and time didn’t exist, two entities existed. They had no physical forms, just pure consciousness tangled together like strands of some cosmic web. Their presence was massive, and their awareness touched the very fabric of reality.

”That anomaly is still growing too fast,” one of them said. Its voice was calm, a kind of rippling hum that seemed to come from everywhere and nowhere at the same time.

”I tried to probe his existence and untangle the threads of what he is, but I can’t see through whatever veil is hiding him. His core is a complete mystery. That’s the fundamental problem with anomalies. They break the very laws that make us what we are.”

A long, thoughtful silence stretched between them.

”Do you think his power might be connected to that world? The one our master came from?” the second entity asked.

”I don’t have a definite answer,” the first admitted. Its vast consciousness flickered with uncertainty. ”But it’s possible. The fact that even we can’t perceive his true nature suggests a connection to something equally deep and incomprehensible. Our master’s world was exactly that. It was impossible to understand.”

The second entity pulsed with quiet amusement. ”Are you suggesting we reach out to him? Maybe we could send him to that world and to see if he can become stronger there too?”

”No. We shouldn’t rush,” the first declared, firm but patient. ”Being impulsive is the enemy of understanding. We should keep watching. We’ll expose him to stronger and stronger worlds, each one a test designed to push his limits. If he survives, if he grows and meets our expectations, then and only then will we approach him.”

The second entity seemed to smile, a subtle shift in cosmic frequencies. ”You’ve wanted to approach him from the very beginning. This was always your plan.”

”Yeah,” the first confirmed. Its voice carried something old and deep now, a kind of ancient longing. ”I need to understand the world our master came from. I want to see that unimaginable source of physical power, a force so strong that even we, beings who had law strands of primordial primordial scale , can’t compare to its power. It’s a mystery I have to solve.”

”Then it’s settled,” the second agreed, settling into patient watchfulness. ”For now, we just observe. We’ll watch and we’ll wait.”

”Sir, this is the complete list of corrupt officials in the country,” Drek said. His voice was tight, weighed down by what he saw as his own failure, as he held out the file toward Ethan.

”We put together detailed files on their activities, their networks, and the money they’ve stolen. But we couldn’t crack the main information web, the inner circle where the really powerful players operate. These ones here though, they’re still deeply and dangerously corrupt.”

Ethan took the file slowly and started looking into it. He flipped it open and scanned the pages at an insane speed, absorbing names, faces, and evidence like a machine processing data. He gave a tiny, almost invisible nod.

”You did well,” he said in a calm, even tone. No real praise, no criticism. He closed the file and fixed his sharp gaze on Drek. ”What did you find on the mayor’s background? Anything useful?”

Drek’s shoulders dropped further. He bowed in a low, apologetical manner. ”No, sir. I’m really sorry. His background information is sealed behind almost impenetrable security. It’s like a fortress of confidentiality. I couldn’t find a single weak point.”

Ethan waved a hand dismissively. His expression didn’t change. ”It doesn’t matter. Don’t dwell on it.” He paused, eyes narrowing slightly. ”What about the ingredients I asked for? Any progress on that list?”

Drek flinched, remembering his failure. ”I only found information on about ten percent of those ingredients, sir,” he confessed, his voice dropping lower. ”The rest are either classified way beyond my reach, or they’re so rare and obscure that they only exist in rumors and legends. Nobody seems to actually know anything about them.”

Ethan took it in. His brow furrowed briefly, thinking, then smoothed out again. ”I understand,” he said quietly. ”Don’t worry about it anymore.” He shifted focus. ”Have the leaders started training like I told them to?”

A flicker of real pride crossed Drek’s face. He straightened up slightly. ”Yes, sir. They’re training with an intensity I’ve never seen before. They’re pushing themselves like their lives depend on every repetition, every brutal hour. I’ve joined them too, sir. I’m pushing just as hard.”

”Good,” Ethan replied. Just that one word, but it carried clear approval.

Without another word, he turned and kept walking down the corridor, leaving Drek standing there.

”I need to make the medicine myself soon”,Ethan thought silently, his mind already working through the next steps.

”To do that, I have to find the ingredients myself. That’s going to take a lot of capital, a massive continuous flow of money. But that can wait. First, I’ll see what James can get. His family’s resources should work way better than Drek’s street-level network.

”Sir, please wait!”

Drek’s urgent shout echoed down the corridor. Ethan stopped mid-step and turned precisely to face his subordinate.

”What’s wrong?” he asked evenly.

Drek hurried forward, his face etched with worry. ”Sir, an emissary from the Harold family is scheduled to visit us tonight. What are your orders? How should we handle this?”

Ethan’s lips curved into a thin, restrained smile. ”They finally noticed that something, eh? They’ve sensed something’s wrong with their puppet organization.” He waved a hand dismissively. ”It’s not important. Let them come. I’ll meet with them personally.”

A visible wave of relief passed through Drek. His whole body relaxed. He knew exactly what the Harold family was capable of. They were the hidden power behind the Black Bull Gang, a hydra with countless heads formed by smaller gangs across different cities.

The family patriarch was a top-tier army officer, a man with serious national influence. The family was also a business empire, with a net worth easily in the hundreds of millions. By any normal standard, they weren’t an enemy you took lightly.

But Drek had seen what Ethan could do. In that moment, his fear of the Harold family was completely overshadowed by his absolute faith in the man who commanded him.

Ethan had already made a quiet, ruthless decision. If the Harold family turned out to be an obstacle, if they dared to challenge his authority, he wouldn’t just neutralize them. He would demolish their entire structure, take their vast wealth, and absorb their power into his growing domain. They would become nothing more than a stepping stone.

The evening sun was bleeding across the sky, painting the clouds in rich shades of orange and crimson as James was returning. He was carrying a specialized bag, its fabric was woven with metallic threads and was lined with a strange insulating material that was designed to preserve the volatile essence of its contents.

Ethan, who was standing by the window, was sensing James’s approach even before he had entered the building. A genuine smile was touching his lips, for he was already able to perceive, with his heightened senses, exactly what was lying within that bag.

James was striding into the room, and his expression was a mixture of curiosity and impatience. He did not waste any time on pleasantries. ”Ethan, I have acquired the ingredients you have requested, the ones that were written on your list. Now, let us see what you are truly capable of. Let us see whether your claims will hold any water.”
