My All Powerful System

The grand Void Arena was packed to the brim.

It wasn’t just full. It was swollen beyond its intended capacity, a colossal, breathing entity of stone, steel, and human noise.

The arena itself was a wonder of ancient construction, a perfect circle nearly half a kilometer in diameter, granite that had been soaked in defensive runes for centuries.

Around it rose tiered seating that climbed so high it seemed to scrape the pale sky, row after row after row of bodies.

Two hundred thousand spectators from across the four human empires had crammed themselves into those rows.

The air vibrated. Not metaphorically. Literally vibrated. Two hundred thousand throats roaring at once, two hundred thousand pairs of hands clapping, stomping, whistling.

Two hundred thousand conversations merging into a single, continuous, thundering ocean of noise that rolled down from the highest seats and crashed against the central stage.

Vendors shouted over the din. Children screamed. Banners from the four empires, the silver hawk of Aether, the black eclipse of Void, the burning thistle of Heather, the white beacon of Beacon, snapped and fluttered violently in the wind that was generated by the sheer movement of so many people.

Up in the highest spectator stands. In the lower VIP seats. Isabel, Amira, Emily, and Eira sat together on plush, velvet lined seats. From their vantage point, the entire arena looked like a bowl of ants.

The glass in front of them dimmed the roar to a low, distant rumble, like hearing the ocean through a wall.

A table beside them held untouched goblets of chilled wine and plates of sliced fruit that none of them had touched. Their eyes were not on the crowd. Their eyes were down, fixed on a single point in the lower enclosures.

Isabel leaned forward slightly, her fingers laced together tightly, her knuckles white. Her normally perfect posture was tense.

Amira sat beside her, her arms crossed, her leg bouncing with an anxious, rapid rhythm that she couldn’t control.

Emily had her hands pressed against the glass, her breath fogging a small circle on the pristine surface. Eira was the quietest, but her eyes never left the Aether section.

They were watching him.

Down near the stage, in the shaded enclosure reserved for Aether Blessed Academy, the atmosphere was altogether different from both the chaos of the common stands and the sterile silence of the VIP box. It was heavy. It was charged.

The Aether students and professors were gathered under the high stone awning that provided shade from the brutal afternoon sun.

The awning was carved from the same white stone as the academy itself, supported by thick pillars wrapped in dormant ivy.

Normally, this enclosure during tournament days was a place of frantic energy, students pacing, professors shouting last-minute tactical advice, healers running back and forth with potions, the air thick with nervous sweat and desperate whispers.

Not today.

After their private talk with the Headmistress the previous nights, a quiet calm had settled over the group.

She told them not to panic. She told them Void’s rings were temporary and would burn out. She told them Lynx had already been cleared to handle it however he wanted.

After that call, the panic that had gripped them during the opening days of the tournament was gone, replaced by a strange, collective reliance on one person.

It wasn’t a peaceful calm. It was the unnatural calm that settles over soldiers when they realize that the battle is no longer in their hands, that their survival depends entirely on the monster standing in front of them.

The panic that had gripped them during the previous Phase of the tournament, when they had seen Void’s ruthless, ring assisted brutality, was gone. It had been replaced by a strange, collective, almost religious reliance on one person.

Lynx Azarion sat on a padded bench near the front edge of the enclosure, leaning back with his arms spread casually over the rest.

The bench was low, close to the barrier that separated the fighters from the main stage. He looked entirely relaxed, his long legs stretched out in front of him, his ankles crossed.

He was wearing the standard Aether academy uniform, just his own customized one, black pants, black jacket and white sleeves with the silver hawk emblem open at the collar, but on him it looked less like a uniform and more like casual wear.

He was watching the empty stage below as if he were attending a casual exhibition rather than a blood soaked inter academy tournament that had already sent a dozen students to the infirmary with shattered bones.

There was no tension in his shoulders. No tightness in his jaw. His breathing was slow, even. If you didn’t know better, you would think he was about to take a nap.

Near him, the social divide within the academy was sharper than ever, a visible, physical gap in the seating arrangement that told the entire story of what had happened over the last two weeks.

Julian Frostborne sat on a stone bench a few paces away, his hands clamped between his knees, staring blankly at the floor.

The stone beneath his feet was cracked from where he had been grinding his heel into it for an hour.

His face, once the face of the undisputed prince of Aether, handsome, arrogant, always wearing that effortless smirk of a boy who had been told he was a genius since birth, was now pale, drawn, and hollow.

Dark circles hung under his eyes. His friends sat around him in similar states of silence. Mars, who used to laugh the loudest at Julian’s jokes, now sat with his arms wrapped around his own stomach.

Kol stared at the ceiling, his lips moving in a silent, anxious prayer.

Ever since Lynx had crushed Julian in the previous Phase, not just beaten him, but utterly, completely dismantled him in front of the everyone without even using a proper affinity technique, and ever since the Headmistress had completely ignored Julian to openly praise Lynx in front of the whole student and professors, the old order of Aether Blessed Academy was dead.

Everyone in the enclosure knew who the real power was. Everyone knew who they would be hiding behind if Void came for them.

Raven sat on the bench right beside Lynx, her shoulder almost touching his. She was not tense. She was not anxious.

She sat with one leg crossed over the other, her dark hair falling over one shoulder, her dark eyes fixed on the stage but her body angled entirely toward Lynx.

Her proximity was deliberate, possessive, and completely unbothered by the forty other pairs of eyes that kept flicking toward them.

Ava, Lira, Ophelia, and Kira were clustered around him as well, forming a tight, intimate semi circle.

Ava sat on the armrest of his bench, her hand resting lightly on the back of his seat, her fingers inches from his neck.

Lira sat on the ground at his feet, leaning back against his legs, her eyes closed as if she were basking in his shadow. Ophelia and Kira sat opposite, their posture relaxed, completely unbothered by the eyes watching them.

They looked like they belonged there, like they had always belonged there, in the orbit of something much larger than themselves.

A few feet away, Sol sat staring at Lynx’s side profile, his eyes burning with intense, ugly jealousy. It was not the clean jealousy of a rival who wants to be stronger.

It was the corrosive, sickly jealousy of a boy who wants what another boy has and knows he can never have it.

His jaw muscles clenched and unclenched, clenched and unclenched, every time Raven leaned in to whisper something to Lynx, or every time Lynx casually flashed a slow smile back at her.

His fingers dug into his own knees so hard his knuckles had gone white, then red. His nails were leaving crescent shaped marks in his skin through his pants.

But he said nothing. He knew better than to open his mouth.

Behind them, the professors stood in a small group near the pillar, trying to maintain some semblance of professional distance, and failing.

Professor Rose kept her eyes fixed on the back of Lynx’s neck, on the small patch of skin where his shirt collar had ridden up, revealing the line of his spine.

Her lips subtly twitched whenever Lynx glanced over his shoulder and tossed a quiet, deliberate wink directly at her, a wink that was too fast for the students to catch but impossible for her to miss.

She was wearing her formal professor robes, crimson with silver trim, but she had undone the top button, and her cheeks were flushed despite the shade. Her arms were crossed, but her fingers were tapping a nervous, anticipatory rhythm against her own elbow.

Beside her, Professor Selene stood with her arms crossed over her chest, her face an unreadable mask of ice, the perfect picture of a disciplined, cold, high ranking professor.

Her silver hair was tied back severely, her glasses glinting in the low light. But her eyes, her eyes lingered on Lynx longer than usual. They tracked the movement of his hands.

They dropped to his chest when he breathed. And when he looked her way, the ice in her expression cracked for a fraction of a second, a flash of something hot and complicated breaking through before she forced it back down.

Professor Mira offered a bright, easy smile whenever Lynx looked her way, completely unbothered by the tension in the room.

A short distance away, separated by a low stone divider but still within the same larger Aether block, Queen Eleanor Haleborn and her small circle of high ranking noble students sat on a raised bench.

They were close enough to hear Lynx, but maintained a respectful distance. Eleanor sat with perfect royal posture, her back straight, her golden hair arranged in a complex braid that signified her house.

Her white and gold uniform was immaculate. Her friends, Layla, Iris, Nadia, and Rhea, sat around her.

”You look far too comfortable, Lynx,” Eleanor said, her tone light but carrying a trace of genuine concern that she couldn’t fully mask. Her voice was soft, cultivated, but it carried clearly in the relative quiet of their enclosure.

”The matches today are going to be far more intense than last week.”

Lynx didn’t turn his head fully, merely tilting it sideways with a faint smirk, his eyes still on the empty granite platform where blood had been scrubbed away just hours before. His smirk was lazy, almost bored.

”Don’t stress yourself, Eleanor,” he said, his voice low and casual, as if they were discussing the weather. ”These guys aren’t strong enough to cause me any real trouble. The Headmistress already cleared it. She told me to handle it however I want.”

The mention of the Headmistress sent a visible ripple through the enclosure. Even Eleanor straightened slightly at the name.

Julian let out a sharp, bitter scoff from his corner. It was loud, ugly, and it broke the strange, reverent quiet that had settled over them. ”Pfft. Listen to you.”

The enclosure went quiet. Instantly. All the soft murmurs stopped. Forty five heads turned. Lynx didn’t move, but his eyes shifted toward Julian, slowly, deliberately. The casual relaxation remained in his body, but the air around him seemed to drop a degree.

Julian stood up slightly, his face red with frustration, with humiliation, with weeks of being ignored.

He needed to say something, anything, to reclaim a piece of the status he had lost. ”You talk like you’re invincible, Azarion. Like you’re a god sitting among insects. We haven’t even felt a very strong aura coming off you since forever. Not once. I know your raw affinity control is high, but compared to Kimberly Vane? Compared to her? Your presence is nothing. She radiates power just standing on the platform. You just sit there looking like a arrogant slacker who thinks he’s too good to even warm up.”
