Merging with Demon Spirits

Chapter 858: Chapter 656: The Apostle’s Debut

Lin Feng’s departure was sudden, but Yun Kai and his group had already been prepared for it mentally. After all, Lin Feng had been a candidate to become an Apostle for quite some time.

Initially, the assessment topic given by the Celestial King Hai was ”Kill Lin Feng.”

Whoever could kill Lin Feng would become the new Apostle.

Including Lin Feng, there were five Apostle candidates. Lin Feng killed three of them, and another had given up early on, making Lin Feng naturally the new Apostle.

Yun Kai and the others were also very clear that the only hope to resolve Lin Feng’s Nightmare aftereffects was to go to the Pure Land.

Although a year had passed, whenever they reminisced about the state of Lin Feng being possessed by a Nightmare, thinking of those high and aloof eyes, like an ancient divine spirit, without any emotional fluctuation, and the gray mist that could devour any attribute attacks, including spiritual attacks, everyone still felt a chill run through them.

The Demon Spirit with intelligence was too strange and too powerful. Even though Lin Feng had cultivated a Second Incarnation and joined the Pure Land, resolving the aftereffects wasn’t going to be easy.

Lin Feng’s departure was inevitable, but Yun Kai and the others never imagined that after him, Hong Yi would leave Shangjing on the same day and become an Apostle of the Pure Land.

Upon hearing this news, the members of the alliance gathered once again.

Inside the hotel room, the atmosphere was somewhat oppressive, and everyone’s expressions looked grim.

”How did Hong Yi become an Apostle? When did she get in touch with the Pure Land?”

Dong Yunan, unable to conceal her shock, said.

Among the four girls of the Avengers Alliance, she resembled Hong Yi the most in appearance and personality, and they were the closest, yet she hadn’t heard even a whisper about this.

After her initial shock, she began to worry.

The people of the Pure Land, those Apostles and Celestial Kings, were all some powerful, lawless psychos. In her view, Hong Yi becoming an Apostle was not a good thing.

Although Hong Yi had a Celestial Chart Demon Beast sealed within her, granting her power comparable to an Emperor, she couldn’t control it freely. Moreover, that Sha Mi was not very obedient and even wanted to kill its Host.

Hong Yi was not yet a King, far from being as powerful as Lin Feng, nor did she have Lin Feng’s mysterious and unpredictable Soul Skills.

”She was forced to leave.” Yun Kai said with a touch of anger.

It must have been some perceived threat that made Hong Yi, after Lin Feng’s departure, join the Pure Land without informing them.

”What do we do now?” He Jun asked, Hong Yi’s departure also filled her with a sense of crisis.

Her abilities were too unique, and even though the conditions for usage were harsh, people would still covet them.

”Hmm, maybe Hong Tao took action.”

Ye Xing said, looking a bit uncomfortable.

Lin Feng had just left, and Hong Yi was forced to join the Pure Land. This made him feel very guilty and ashamed.

They were still too weak.

With Lin Feng gone, much of the alliance’s deterrent power seemed to have vanished.

”I’ll ask Wang Jian what this means. Didn’t he promise to protect Hong Yi? Didn’t he say the higher-ups highly regarded the Avengers Alliance? Is this what he damn well called high regard!”

Yun Tianqi cursed and then took out his phone. Soon, the angry questioning filled the room.

Everyone’s expressions were furious, but they were all suppressing their anger.

With Lin Feng gone, they didn’t have the courage to confront an Emperor.

...

Inside the Guardian Divine Artifact, Wang Jian stepped on the silver-white floor, his expression solemn as he walked toward an office situated in the far corner.

Seeing his displeased look, a colleague who was about to greet him immediately stopped.

Pausing and looking up at the door labeled ”Minister of Shangjing’s Security Department,” Wang Jian knocked on the door.

”Come in.” A deep voice sounded from inside.

Wang Jian took a deep breath on the spot, suppressed his emotions, adjusted his expression slightly, and then entered the office.

Ten minutes later, he walked out with a sullen face.

Wang Jian took out his phone but hesitated to dial.

The matter had been thoroughly investigated.

Based on the Guardian Divine Artifact’s surveillance video, Hong Tao only sent someone to monitor Hong Yi, saying he was concerned the Spirit Medium might act up, a reasonable explanation.

After all, that Sha Mi was his seal. As an Emperor, he also needed to be responsible for Shangjing’s safety.

Hong Tao did not take action against Hong Yi.

Based on the situation, Hong Yi joining the Pure Land and becoming an Apostle was her decision, and she had been in contact with the Pure Land beforehand, so this matter could only end inconclusively.

But this explanation clearly couldn’t satisfy the Avengers Alliance and quell their anger.

He was only a Martial King, a Guardian, and didn’t dare to question Hong Tao, who was an Emperor, nor did he have the authority. Hong Tao could crush him with just a slap.

But as Yun Kai and the others became Kings, the Avengers Alliance was no longer something he could afford to offend or dismiss lightly.

In his view, the Avengers Alliance was far more important than Hong Tao.

The strength and potential of the Avengers Alliance were beyond doubt. If this matter wasn’t handled properly, it might estrange the Avengers Alliance from the Hua Country.

In the previous call with Yun Tianqi, Dong Yunan had already interrupted, loudly refusing to become Shangjing’s Guardian.

The more Guardians there are, the safer a Base City becomes.

For any Base City, Guardians were immensely important. Especially for one so young and with limitless potential as a King.

Emperors rarely acted; the safety of a Base City depended mainly on its Guardians.

And while Yun Tianqi, who originally intended to join the Combat Department, didn’t shout loudly like Dong Yunan, he was clearly wavering, as were Yun Kai and the others, most likely.

Wang Jian also reported this, and the higher-ups were also troubled and helpless, only instructing him to properly appease the Avengers Alliance.

”Appease, my ass.”

Wang Jian cursed under his breath and then turned to leave.

He couldn’t bother with these trifles anymore; he couldn’t offend either side, so he didn’t care who it would affect.

.....

Suspended City.

This is a city located in a remote area, suspended in mid-air, with a population of less than a hundred thousand. It is also a city created by Pure Land.

In the eyes of the world, Pure Land is famous for its Twelve Celestial Kings and Twenty-four Apostles.

But in fact, the power of Pure Land is immense.

Among them, the most numerous are the hundreds and thousands of scientific researchers, which is one of the main reasons countries go to great lengths to join Pure Land and secure a Celestial King seat.

Besides scientific researchers, there are also many martial artists and demon spirit masters who have pledged allegiance to Pure Land.

Some of these individuals possess strength not inferior to the Twenty-four Apostles.

They have long coveted the position of Apostle, but unfortunately, their talent fell short and they weren’t favored by the Celestial Kings.

Those who pledge allegiance to Pure Land can also have their families reside in Suspended City.

Suspended City is twelve meters from the ground, shaped like a cone, with the city enveloped in a dark yellow barrier.

Pure Land also has a Guardian Divine Artifact.

Though this Guardian Divine Artifact is far inferior to the Guardian Divine Artifacts of Hua Country’s Twelve Base Cities, its defensive capabilities are far more formidable because it protects fewer than a hundred thousand residents, compared to those of the Base Cities.

Furthermore, beneath and around the Suspended City, dense thorn forests abound, which occasionally move as if they possess life.

Living in Suspended City is very safe, much safer than in the Twelve Base Cities, with no worry about demon beasts attacking the city and no worry about terrorist attacks.

Because Pure Land is recognized worldwide as the number one terrorist organization, who would dare to set foot here lightly?

Suspended City is very safe, but living here is somewhat dull, lacking many entertainment activities.

However, recently, Suspended City has become somewhat lively.

Because a new Apostle is coming.

Each new Apostle becomes a topic of casual conversation for residents of Suspended City, and this time the Apostle is Lin Feng.

A twenty-three-year-old King, a Double King powerhouse with glorious achievements and renowned worldwide as a super demon fiend.

When Lin Feng became a candidate for Apostle, the residents of Suspended City were very excited, and now that Lin Feng has officially become Celestial King Hai’s Apostle, the anticipation is even stronger.

”Why hasn’t Lin Feng come yet?”

”Yeah, we’ve been waiting for two months already, why hasn’t he come?”

”Is he scared, got discouraged? You should know that Celestial King Hai’s assessment questions aren’t friendly to him.”

”It’s possible. Wind Celestial King’s two Apostles were killed by him; there’s still no one recruited yet.”

”Not just Wind Celestial King’s two Apostles, there should be three.”

”He should arrive soon; this debut is sure to be spectacular.”

”I wonder how many trials Lin Feng can pass?”

”At least three trials.”

”That’s Lin Feng, at least five trials.”

”I heard that Spirit Medium Hong Yi is coming too; I wonder if it’s true.”

The crowd was abuzz with discussion, extremely eager for Lin Feng’s debut.

Every Apostle newly joining Pure Land has a debut.

This is customary and one of Suspended City’s rare events.

The whole city can watch this debut.

Of course, whether to participate is entirely up to the Apostle.

The number of trials participated in, and which trials to choose, is also free.

For Pure Land’s Twelve Celestial Kings, aside from the Celestial King of the Apostles’ debut not setting evaluation questions, the rest of the Celestial Kings each provide an assessment question and a prize.

So there are a total of eleven assessments.

Passing the assessment earns a prize.

Failing the assessment requires compensating with something equivalent to the prize.

Of course, it’s not Lin Feng who compensates but Celestial King Hai.

This debut is both a test and a reward for the Apostle.

The prizes given by the Celestial Kings are certainly extraordinary items, especially since even failing the Apostle assessments yields corresponding compensation.

This is also a wager on the Apostle overcoming trials.

Since it’s a wager and Apostles are allowed to freely choose, the assessment questions set by the Celestial Kings wouldn’t be too difficult or outrageous, leaving the possibility of success.

Otherwise, it wouldn’t be a test and would lose significance.

After all, makes one feel that there’s hope of winning, to step onto the ”gambling table.”

For Lin Feng, there is risk in the assessment.

Not only is there a risk of encountering life-threatening danger during the assessment, but failing the assessment with Celestial King Hai compensating too much would certainly lead to future grievances.

In Pure Land’s history, a total of 97 Apostles participated in the debut, of whom 41 passed only one trial, eleven could pass three trials, and only three could pass five trials, with only one passing six trials.

Everyone anticipates this debut, waiting to see how many trials Lin Feng can pass.

Pure Land has another custom: an Apostle who can pass ten trials can become a new Celestial King.

Become the thirteenth Celestial King.
