Longevity through Upgrading Buildings

Chapter 900: Chapter 355: My Fellow Dies So I Live

Along with it, all the Purple Sky Divine Thunder on the Flying Sword’s surface was drawn into the sword body by him.

For a moment, the commotion on this Gobi desert died down quite a bit.

Having escaped his predicament, Ji Yuan sent his Divine Sense outward.

He saw Su Yuan, who was closest to him, staring at him in a daze, and Ling Juexiao’s gaze was almost exactly the same, even somewhat complicated.

Only Xing Shuang had the corners of her mouth slightly raised, a hint of joy visible on her face.

But the silence lasted for less than a single breath before those death-defying Yin Beasts pounced up again.

Ji Yuan casually swept aside a Early-Tier Three Yin Beast with two sword strokes, then continued darting toward the depths of the Secret Realm, while also pulling open the distance between himself and Su Yuan.

At the same time he also noticed that Su Yuan, the weakest one present, was already injured; a deep, bone-revealing wound had been clawed into her back by a Yin Beast, and one could vaguely see Yin Energy still corroding her body.

As for her Lifebound Magical Treasure, it was a dark green Pill Furnace, which she kept by her side to shield her body, using it to block the attacks of two Mid-Tier Three Yin Beasts.

When it came to offense, she relied on two Early-stage Core Formation Silk Puppets.

The two Human-shaped Puppets each had ten green threads extending from their hands, interlinked with each other to form venomous nets, trying to ensnare those two Mid-Tier Three Yin Beasts.

“Dao… Daoist Changgeng, save me!”

Seeing yet another Mid-Tier Three Yin Beast pounce at her, Su Yuan finally couldn’t help but call out to Ji Yuan.

But just as her voice fell, a Mid-Tier Three Yin Beast leapt in front of Ji Yuan, about to swallow him whole in one bite.

Ji Yuan’s eyes and hands were quick; as the Canglan Sword whirled around his body, it formed a sword shield that barely blocked the beast’s huge maw.

But it was only a block; when that strike failed, the Yin Beast simply rammed its head toward Ji Yuan.

Already looking like he’d reached the end of his rope, Ji Yuan was directly knocked flying, his whole body crashing into the ground as he shouted:

“I can hardly protect myself either, Daoist Su, be careful.”

After Ji Yuan hit the ground, several Early-Tier Three Yin Beasts nearby pounced on him as well, instantly burying his figure.

From the distance, an arrow shot over and exploded with a boom, but only managed to scare those few Yin Beasts away for a brief moment before they lunged back again.

A cloud of mist billowed up from the ground, and Ji Yuan struck once and retreated.

His figure quickly appeared far off, blood constantly spilling from his mouth.

But at least he had widened the distance between himself and the others; as for saving people, Ji Yuan was now like a clay Bodhisattva wading through a river.

Let alone that he had just helped Su Yuan pass the second level of the Illusion Realm, only for her to change her face again here on this Gobi desert.

Moreover, Ji Yuan’s Divine Sense had also noticed that Ling Juexiao clearly had the ability to rescue her and had even been ready to make a move, yet in the end he still held back.

Judging from that performance… one could only say: better a dead fellow Daoist than a dead me!

Since even Ling Juexiao was unwilling to help, why should he save her?

So from then on, Ji Yuan merely relied on the Canglan Sword, plus the Thousand-Needle Basket he had brought from the Cangluo Continent; with these two Magical Treasures he fought and paused, barely managing to keep moving forward.

Xing Shuang and Ling Juexiao had it somewhat easier; especially Ling Juexiao, whose killing power was indeed extraordinary. It was one thing for him to wield a long-sword Magical Treasure, but he also relied on that Lifebound Flying Sword to slaughter the Yin Beasts until their Yin Energy billowed.

Only Su Yuan, let alone advancing, was already in mortal danger as she was besieged by several Mid-Tier Three Yin Beasts.

“Ling Juexiao, do you really refuse to save me!”

Su Yuan’s miserable scream rang out from within the pile of Yin Beasts.

“Save you! I’m coming right now!”

Ling Juexiao answered readily enough, but his body showed no sign of retreating.

“Good, good, good.”

Seeing yet more Yin Beasts charging in, Su Yuan seemed to make some sort of decision.

The green light around her grew denser and denser.

Ji Yuan’s Divine Sense swept past, just in time to see Su Yuan’s Lifebound Magical Treasure—the Pill Furnace in front of her—explode with a thunderous boom, while her body was lifted up by the two Silk Puppets, one in front and one behind, flying out from the mass of Yin Beasts and retreating straight in the direction they had come from.

“Don’t panic, Daoist friend, Ling will come save you at once!”

Ling Juexiao shouted loudly, several bloody sword rays stabbing out from him and forcing back the nearby Yin Beasts, while his figure turned into a blood-colored Escape Light and shot after her.

In the distance, Ji Yuan subconsciously glanced at Xing Shuang.

By chance, he happened to meet her eyes.

“Let’s go!”

Xing Shuang’s voice rang out above Ji Yuan’s sea of consciousness, and the many Yin Beasts present had all been scared back by Su Yuan’s self-detonation, opening up a brief gap.

Ji Yuan and Xing Shuang seized this opening, each turning into Escape Light as they flew straight toward the depths of the Secret Realm.

Behind them.

Su Yuan’s screams echoed over; although Ji Yuan had already flown a great distance, he still used his Divine Sense to see the scene.

Just as Ling Juexiao reached Su Yuan’s side, he immediately summoned his Lifebound Flying Sword.

That Flying Sword, like flowing blood, cut down one of the Silk Puppets with a single stroke, then with another stroke, directly split Su Yuan’s head in two.

The ferocity of it all even left Ji Yuan slightly dumbfounded.

‘Compared to someone like Ling Juexiao, I really count as the righteous path.’

Ji Yuan couldn’t help but think so in his heart.

After killing Su Yuan, the first thing Ling Juexiao did was snatch up her bulging Storage Bag.

Next was her corpse, the so-called “Immortal Material” in common parlance, and then those Silk Puppets.

Ling Juexiao didn’t waste a single thing.

But while he was taking his time killing for treasure, another five or six Mid-Tier Three Yin Beasts stepped into the air, pouncing toward him.

Seeing that there was no room left to dodge or maneuver, Ji Yuan knew he was about to use his trump card.

Sure enough, Ling Juexiao glanced around, his hands forming seals without pause.

At the instant he recalled his Flying Sword, he left a blood-shadow in place to draw all the Yin Beasts’ attention, while he himself flickered repeatedly through the air and very quickly caught up.

His speed was so fast that even Ji Yuan felt a twinge of temptation upon seeing it.

But that temptation quickly faded, because when he caught up, Ji Yuan noticed that Ling Juexiao’s body was now covered in dense, numerous wounds.

He looked like fragile porcelain, crisscrossed with cracks.

“Don’t panic, fellow Daoists. That person and I had an old grudge, otherwise I wouldn’t have acted like this. As for the sordid details, allow me to explain later.”

At the moment Ling Juexiao’s voice rang out in Ji Yuan’s sea of consciousness, they finally escaped from the Gobi desert.

And just as they emerged, Ji Yuan looked up.

One Treasure Pearl after another appeared again.

But with just one glance, Ji Yuan realized that the Treasure Pearls that appeared this time… were somewhat different.
