Chapter 576: Chapter 576: Shen Ming Side Story (31)

“Hey, what are you holding there?”

Xie Yuepei’s car stopped in front of Shen Ming, who placed the item in his hand into the back seat before getting into the passenger side.

Xie Yuepei chuckled, “Is that woman of yours buying random stuff again?”

“Yeah.”

“Aren’t you afraid she’s going to spend all your money?” Xie Yuepei teased, “Everyone’s guessing how long it will take for her to spend you dry.”

“If that were the case, I’d be happy.” What she spent was not her own money, which was incredibly frustrating.

“…”

Xie Yuepei gave his brother an odd look, wondering if he had lost his mind.

“By the way, I want to have my wedding with you.”

Shen Ming looked at him, “You’ve sorted it out?”

“Of course!” Xie Yuepei laughed with a cheeky air, “Who do you think I am?”

“It took you three years just to propose successfully,” Shen Ming dispassionately pointed out.

“…” Could they really still be brothers!

When Xie Yuepei met Yu Niannian, he met his nemesis.

The playboy was tamed to the point where he now dared not even glance at another beauty.

What would happen if he took another look?

Nothing would happen.

But she would notice the look!

“Have you really let go?”

Xie Yuepei straightened his expression.

Shen Ming hung his head low, fingers resting on his knees, and after a long while, he uttered an affirmation.

Outside, everyone said Father Shen was very fond of him, that he was the future of Shen Corporation.

But only Shen Ming knew the truth.

It wasn’t like that.

Since he could remember, he had been in the Shen Family, where Father Shen was extremely strict with him, insisting that everything, from his grades to everything else, had to be the best.

Mrs. Shen was initially quite nice to him, but that was about it.

At home, he could hardly ever see a smile on Father Shen’s face.

Only outside, Father Shen would be very kind to him, and even hug him when he received awards.

To be perfect in public and to get a word of praise from Father Shen, he had to give two hundred percent effort.

Back then, he believed that as long as he worked hard and excelled, he would earn his father’s affection.

So he always did as Father Shen instructed.

…When he was eight years old…

He got a sister.

The arrival of this sister showed him a different side of Father Shen.

Even at home, he was very patient, radiating kindness.

That was something he had never experienced at home before.

It was then that he realized, the way Father Shen treated him was purely because of him and not because that was his true nature.

After his sister was born, the family’s attention towards him diminished greatly.

Of course, Father Shen also didn’t really allow him to get close to his sister.

After a whole month without inquiring about his studies, sometimes he would sneak peeks at the doughy white little person.

She was always turning her big, glistening eyes around.

That was the image that stuck with him the most.

But before long, his sister disappeared.

The atmosphere at home was extremely oppressive at the time, and this lasted for nearly a year.

During that year, Shen Ming’s academic performance sharply declined, which enraged Father Shen.

Although Father Shen was very strict with him, he had never hit him. Whenever he made a mistake, Father Shen would just scold him with a cold face.

Sometimes, Shen Ming wished his father would just hit him.

Like other fathers would.

Young and unable to understand, Shen Ming couldn’t grasp why his father’s attitude towards him was so contradictory.

Back then, his only friend was Xie Yuepei.

Unlike him.

Xie Yuepei was coddled by his parents; if he asked for the stars, they wouldn’t give him The Moon. They’d drop whatever they were doing and fly back to him at just a casual remark from him.

To Xie Yuepei, Shen Ming was the child of another family.

Every time he saw his parents, they would compare him with Shen Ming.

Therefore, Shen Ming felt that if Xie Yuepei didn’t break off their friendship, they were truly brothers.

Two people from utterly different circumstances had become brothers just like that.

Xie Yuepei understood much more and naturally also noticed Father Shen’s attitude towards Shen Ming.

At eighteen, Shen Ming entered the company according to Father Shen’s request.

Father Shen demanded that he achieve results within a year.

Shen Ming didn’t know if he could do it, but he had no other choice, he had to face it head-on.

The first time he entered the company, he didn’t know if it was Father Shen’s orders or if these people simply disliked him, but everything was extremely difficult.

He was locked in the company late at night, documents had errors, meeting agendas were changed without anyone notifying him.

But for Shen Ming, these were not the hardest things.

He overcame numerous obstacles and met Father Shen’s demands within the allotted time.

Afterward, he was transferred to a higher department.

His youth was arranged clearly, unlike Xie Yuepei, who only needed to play and have fun.

However, as time passed, the more significant his accomplishments became, the less Father Shen seemed to favor him.

Of course, this was in private.

On the surface, he was still Father Shen’s most outstanding son, the image of filial piety, envied by others.

But it was all fake.

Everything was fake.

Shen Ming could never understand why.

Why Xie Yuepei’s parents could indulge him so much.

Why Father Shen’s attitude towards him was so strange.

Until one day, after conducting a business deal and coming home in the early morning, he passed by Father Shen and Mrs. Shen’s room and overheard them talking about him.

At that moment, a voice deep inside Shen Ming told him to leave immediately.

But he didn’t.

He listened to their entire conversation.

He wasn’t Father Shen’s biological son.

When he first heard this news, Shen Ming felt the world go dark, as if the sky had fallen.

All his hard work had led to such an unacceptable situation.

But that was the reality.

He wasn’t Father Shen’s son.

Shen Ming didn’t disturb anyone and walked back to his room.

It took him almost half a month to adjust his mindset; Father Shen was busy with other things and didn’t notice his unusual behavior.

Only because of Shen Ming’s negligence at work, Father Shen scolded him several times.

Not long after he knew this fact, Father Shen became aware that he knew, but nobody confronted the issue.

The relationship between him and Father Shen began to become strange in public.

Once, taking advantage of being drunk, Shen Ming confronted Father Shen.

He asked why, after all these years of obeying him, Father Shen had to treat him this way, what had he done wrong?

Father Shen only gave him a cold laugh and said he brought it upon himself and had to repay his father’s debts.

That was the moment Shen Ming saw more complex emotions in Father Shen’s eyes.

Like hatred.

And like guilt.

Perhaps because his influence in the corporation was growing, or maybe for some other reason, when others schemed against him, Father Shen took the opportunity to cast him out in the name of righteousness, expelling him from the Shen family.

Father Shen just threw him a plane ticket and a passport.

At that time, he didn’t have a single penny.

If it weren’t for Xie Yuepei giving him some money, he probably would have faced the danger of starving to death after getting off the plane.

So he left. Did Shen Ming hate Father Shen?

He must have hated him.

No matter whether he was Father Shen’s biological child, all these years, there had been no affection for him.

His past efforts seemed like a joke.

While he worked hard, Father Shen was ruthlessly mocking him.

How could he not hate him?

Carrying this hatred and the stigma, Shen Ming made an awkward exit.

The first time he noticed something was wrong with himself was in the third month abroad.

Overseas, being from Hua Country, he faced much exclusion.

Those big companies didn’t even give him a chance for an interview, and even with his talents, he had no platform to showcase them.

He could only find a job at a nightclub to temporarily stabilize his life.

But that job also came with various forms of harassment.

He was good-looking, which only increased the amount of harassment.

Some even offered to keep him as a kept man.
