Immortal-Exterminating Divine Venerable

”The Profound Sun Emperor?”

Yang Xiao was taken aback.

A wave of emotion washed over him.

’I can’t believe it. Not only did my cousin achieve the Dao and become a Great Emperor, but that little bald head also became a Great Emperor... No, wait. A Secret Realm... Could it be...?’

Yang Xiao’s expression suddenly changed.

A Secret Realm only appears when a Great Emperor Level Powerhouse has fallen.

A living Great Emperor only has a personal domain.

’Could it be...?’

”Who is the Profound Sun Emperor? And what is a Secret Realm?”

Although he was anxious, Yang Xiao maintained a placid expression, feigning ignorance as he asked.

’This guy really doesn’t know anything.’

Seeing his reaction, Yue Lingxi breathed a strange sigh of relief.

She and Yang Xiao had already undergone Spiritual Qi Fusion, an act reserved for Dao companions.

If Yang Xiao had known and still refused to take responsibility,

Yue Lingxi would have been deeply disappointed and hurt.

But now that it was confirmed he was unaware, Yue Lingxi’s heart instantly lightened. In fact, if Yang Xiao had come right out and asked her to be his Dao companion,

Yue Lingxi couldn’t have accepted it, either.

Just as Yang Xiao had thought, they had only known each other for a short while, had met only twice, and knew next to nothing about each other.

And becoming Dao companions...

...was not such a simple matter.

Take the fusion of their Heart Spirits, for instance.

This alone meant entrusting one’s entire being to the other person.

When Heart Spirits fuse, you perceive everything about the other person, including their memories.

There are no secrets.

This is something only the most intimate of Dao companions would attempt.

Because it represents handing over your entire self, laying it bare for the other to see.

Whether it’s the ugly parts,

or the beautiful.

The good, or the bad.

The malicious, or the benevolent.

Nothing at all is hidden.

It’s not so easily done.

Just now, although their Heart Spirits had fused, the time was too short.

Yang Xiao had only learned Yue Lingxi’s name and some peripheral, unimportant memories, while Yue Lingxi, similarly, only learned Yang Xiao’s name.

And a few minor details.

Most of these minor details were memories from Yang Xiao’s previous incarnation.

All trivial matters.

If the connection were to deepen, then everything, no matter what, would be exposed.

Of course, such a Heart Spirit fusion also brought immense benefits to both parties.

For instance, Yang Xiao could now feel that the True Greater Yang Fire within him had grown stronger. Although it hadn’t advanced to the Upper Eighth Grade, it had solidified at the Eighth Grade stage.

At the same time, his Spiritual Level had also risen.

He had almost reached the limit of the Observing Micro Realm.

The Void Observation Realm was just a paper-thin barrier away.

Ready to be pierced at any moment.

Previously, he would have had to reach the Early-stage Peak of the Yellow Flame Realm and use Essence Qi generated by a Heaven and Earth Origin Flame to break through. Now, however, he could likely break through after just a period of secluded cultivation.

This was no small improvement.

But right now, Yang Xiao wasn’t focused on any of this.

He was concerned about Profound Sun, his junior brother from a past life. What had happened to him? Was he dead or alive?

”The Profound Sun Emperor was one of the five most famous Great Emperors of the Middle Ages. He was the successor of the Nine Yang Supreme and the last Palace Lord of the Nine Yang Celestial Palace. He fell when the Nine Yang Celestial Palace was destroyed...”

Yue Lingxi explained patiently.

She figured that if Yang Xiao didn’t even know that the fusion of their auras was something only Dao companions do, he certainly wouldn’t know who the Profound Sun Emperor was.

So, she recounted the entire history of the Profound Sun Emperor.

From his ascension to Great Emperor,

to his leadership of the Nine Yang Celestial Palace after the disappearance of the Nine Yang Supreme,

and finally, to his fall.

Listening to her, Yang Xiao’s Heart Spirit surged with emotion.

If not for his iron will, he would have likely betrayed his turmoil.

But even so, while he remained calm on the surface, his heart was in utter chaos.

Yue Lingxi’s words were too shocking.

’My invincible master disappeared...’

’That little bald head, Profound Sun, has fallen...’

’Then what about Chang Xi? She and I were known as the Ancient Twin Pride. Her talent and foundation were far superior to Profound Sun’s. Something couldn’t have happened to her!’

At this moment, Yang Xiao desperately wanted to run to the Divine Land Continent, to the Celestial Heaven, and see for himself.

To see if the people from his past were still there.

But he knew he couldn’t.

His current strength was far too weak, for one.

He couldn’t even reach the Divine Land Continent.

Even if he could, even if he had the chance to go there,

the mastermind who had plotted against him in his past life had yet to be found.

Rashly contacting old acquaintances

would create a high probability of exposing himself.

When that time came,

what would he do?

His current strength was simply too weak in comparison.

Compared to his past life, it was less than one in a hundred million—utterly insignificant.

Yang Xiao didn’t dare to gamble.

He couldn’t afford to.

”Alright. When you open the Profound Sun Secret Realm, I will definitely go. But not right now. I have something else I need to do.”

After learning that his Junior Brother Xuan Yang might truly have perished,

Yang Xiao pondered for a long time before saying this.

Ever since Yang Xiao learned that the Profound Sun Order could open the Profound Sun Secret Realm, he had actually suspected that his Junior Brother Xuan Yang had fallen.

Because only a dead Great Emperor’s Small World would transform into a Secret Realm.

And only such a Secret Realm could be explored by outsiders.

Otherwise, how could the Small World of a mighty Great Emperor be spied upon by others?

The reason he wasn’t certain was that some powerhouses could slay other Great Emperors and seize their Small Worlds, but such beings were rare.

Once one reached the level of a Great Emperor, they were already an immortal and indestructible existence.

Even a Saint Emperor could only defeat them; killing them was extremely difficult.

Unless several Saint Emperors joined forces,

it was nearly impossible.

Therefore, the possibility of his Junior Brother Xuan Yang obtaining a Great Emperor’s Small World and creating the Profound Sun Secret Realm from it was extremely small.

The only reason Yang Xiao clung to this hope

was because he couldn’t accept the alternative.

Emotionally, while Profound Sun wasn’t the most important person to him, he was still the little guy who had once called him ’Senior Brother,’ whom he had teased and taught.

Yang Xiao couldn’t accept the fact that he was dead.

’Once I get to the Profound Sun Secret Realm, perhaps I can learn more of the truth. Maybe I’ll have a chance to obtain Junior Brother Xuan Yang’s True Spirit, and he’ll have a chance to be resurrected in the future.’

With such thoughts in mind, Yang Xiao naturally agreed

to explore the Profound Sun Secret Realm with Yue Lingxi.

And when Yue Lingxi heard this,

she couldn’t help but feel a little happy.

Although she had already decided to stay by Yang Xiao’s side and make him understand how important what they had done was to her,

as a girl—and the Holy Palace Saintess at that—

someone with a chance to become the one and only Saintess,

how could she resort to pestering him relentlessly?

Even if she was going to stay by Yang Xiao’s side, she wanted a proper reason.

Exploring the Profound Sun Secret Realm together was that reason.

In the time that followed, Yang Xiao inquired more about the Profound Sun Emperor.

Unfortunately, Yue Lingxi didn’t know much either.

After all, this had happened in the Middle Ages, specifically the early Middle Ages. Over nine hundred thousand years had passed since then.

As someone from a later era, what little Yue Lingxi knew came from historical records.

And she only knew that much because she had specifically researched it for her mission.

Otherwise, she would have known even less.

Thus, Yang Xiao didn’t get much useful information.

Yang Xiao didn’t dwell on it.

Instead, his current predicament began to worry him.

The Evil Tiger wouldn’t retreat. Even Yue Lingxi probably couldn’t kill it; she could only defeat it at best.

And with the Nine Sects Grand Competition less than three months away, was he really going to be trapped here the whole time?
