Chapter 164: Chapter 163: Taking Turns Getting Struck by Lightning!

Feng Yu watched the Credit-seller next to him, who was busy wiping his face and brushing his teeth, and his own face was a mask of sheer frustration.

’Why is there such a huge difference in our treatment?’

’Why does he get to be the lord, while I have to be the lackey!’

’Just because I called you an idiot earlier?’

’Was that really reason enough to make me eat so many chili peppers first thing in the morning?!’

The Fat Daoist chuckled devilishly, grabbed a large handful of chili peppers, and held them up to Feng Yu’s mouth.

Feng Yu was screaming ’no’ on the inside, but unfortunately, he lacked the Credit-seller’s talent for craning his neck out of the way. He could only stare helplessly as the chilies drew ever closer.

”Daoning, kid, hurry up and call 037. Tell them to come collect the body.” He Xiaotian had entered at some point, and he addressed the fat Daoist.

”Uh, I’m on it, Scholar X.” Daoning’s movements stiffened. Although He Xiaotian wasn’t a member of the temple, his performance yesterday had marked him as an absolute powerhouse. He had thrashed the Deceitful Person that had scared them witless, leaving it utterly defenseless. Who would dare to disobey him?

”Consider yourself lucky.” Daoning threw the handful of chili peppers back into the bucket, waved his junior disciples over to deal with things, and pulled out his phone to make the call.

And Feng Yu, at last, got to eat the fragrant temple food.

The Fat Daoist hadn’t meant any real harm; he just wanted to give him a little scare.

After all, this Feng Yu had beheaded an unidentified man with a single slash just the day before.

A short while later, their old acquaintance Captain Su arrived at the Divine Void Temple.

When he led his team into the courtyard of the meditation chambers, he was dumbstruck.

’What is this whole setup?’

Two men, their bodies completely buried underground with only their heads exposed, were being fed temple food by young Daoists.

”What’s the situation here?”

Captain Su asked, pointing at the pair to the Fat Daoist, Daoning.

”Hehe, they’re the ones who broke into the temple last night. Scholar X gave each of them a single palm strike, and this is how they ended up.”

”And the body?” Hearing this, Captain Su decided it was best not to meddle in anything involving He Xiaotian.

”We cleaned it up. After all, it was a bit damaging to the temple’s image,” Daoning explained with a guileless smile.

”...”

Captain Su felt like he was listening to a load of crap. A headless corpse was bad for their image?

’So two heads growing out of the ground isn’t frightening at all, then?’

”This guy?” As the headless corpse was carried out, Captain Su squinted at the head lying nearby. ”The fugitive from the ritualistic murder case. Who killed him? They’ve done a great service. I remember there was a bounty... how much was it again?”

Zhou Yun, standing behind him, immediately answered, ”Because of the heinous nature of the ritualistic murder case, and the fact that Cleaners all over have been hunting him for a long time, the bounty was changed from a monetary reward to Spiritual Energy Crystals.”

”And because one of the victims was the descendant of a rather powerful expert, that expert has progressively raised the bounty from an initial one Spiritual Energy Crystal to the current forty.”

Upon hearing ”forty Spiritual Energy Crystals,” Feng Yu’s eyes instantly lit up.

’Once I collect the bounty and pay back Shouyangzi, I’ll still have twenty left. After subtracting what I spent on information, I’ll still have quite a few remaining.’

The Credit-seller, however, was staring wide-eyed, his expression one of a man who had just seen a ghost.

The delicious temple food in his mouth instantly turned bland, as if he were chewing wax.

He could already imagine how Feng Yu would treat him once he was free.

And look!

The man’s eyes were constantly darting toward the wooden bucket filled with chili peppers.

’He’s planning to give me the whole ”family bucket”!’

The previously expressionless Feng Yu flashed a bright, sunny smile at the wary Credit-seller.

’So why,’ he wondered, ’did it suddenly feel a little chilly?’

”How about I just say I don’t want the knife anymore?”

The Credit-seller probed. A wise man doesn’t fight a losing battle. For now, feigning compliance to pacify Feng Yu was the top priority.

’So you have your day of reckoning too!’

”Brother Feng, I was in the wrong last night. With those forty Spiritual Energy Crystals, how about you get your little bro out of this mess too? I’ll be your loyal servant from now on, I swear I’ll repay you,” the Credit-seller said with a shamelessness that completely ignored their previous dispute over the knife.

”Just you wait...” Feng Yu gave the Credit-seller a long, meaningful look that made the man’s skin crawl.

However, he didn’t get to enjoy his moment of triumph for long before Zhou Yun’s next sentence shattered his illusions.

”It will take some time to claim the bounty. The Shanghai Cleaners have long since been cleaned out by X. Forty crystals is too small an amount to warrant a special delivery.”

”Pfft!”

The Credit-seller burst out laughing, his gloating expression making Feng Yu grit his teeth in frustration.

”Sorry, I... I couldn’t hold it in... Hahaha...”

This pair of unfortunate brothers were truly more bizarre than any of the Daoists in the temple.

Captain Su left with the corpse, but not before issuing a voucher worth forty Spiritual Energy Crystals.

With this voucher, they could go to the Shanghai Cleaner headquarters at any time to collect.

The Credit-seller, on the other hand, was now in a bind.

Just when all hope seems lost, a light appears at the end of the tunnel.

Too bad he himself had just blocked his own path forward.

In fact, he’d built a concrete wall and topped it with broken glass.

He’d even thrown in some barbed wire and hooked it up to a high-voltage current.

”Go on, laugh! Why’d you stop? Now it’s my turn to laugh!”

But before Feng Yu could laugh at the Credit-seller, Shouyangzi approached.

”Scholars, although the compensation has been arranged, I’m afraid you’ll have to remain here for a while longer. The matter of the Netherworld Fissure is of grave importance. For that, this old Daoist apologizes to you both.”

Feng Yu: ”...”

”Hahaha! This is killing me! You paid up, but you still can’t leave.” The Credit-seller was laughing so hard that tears streamed from his eyes. ’So what if you settled your debt? You still have to stay buried in the dirt with me, don’t you?’

”What the hell are you laughing at! At least I’ll be able to leave in a few days. What about you? No money, so you can just stay buried here forever!” Feng Yu’s retort struck like a lightning bolt from a clear sky, leaving the Credit-seller charred on the outside and tender on the inside, completely stunned.

’I... I actually hadn’t considered that.’

”Dad!!” the Credit-seller wailed, casting aside all semblance of pride.

Feng Yu: ”?!”

’You’d stoop to such a shameful level? Calling your enemy ’Dad’?’

The utterly shameless Credit-seller continued to wail his heart out.

It was such a sight that even Feng Yu started to feel a twinge of pity.

Before he could open his mouth to speak, the old Daoist spoke up again.

”Scholar Credit-seller, your compensation fee has already been deducted from Scholar Feng’s voucher. So you needn’t worry; once this matter is resolved, we will release you as well.”

The crying came to an abrupt halt. The Credit-seller’s face was a picture of pleasant surprise.

”Hahaha, the heavens have not forsaken me! Feng Yu... pfft!”

This attitude of ’whoever provides is my mother’ left the somewhat naive Feng Yu completely dumbfounded.

Of course, he was more upset about his lost Spiritual Energy Crystals.

But then, the old Daoist opened his mouth again.

The Credit-seller’s smug laughter froze on his face, while a glimmer of hope appeared in Feng Yu’s eyes.

Every time Shouyangzi spoke, it was guaranteed to send them reeling.

’Following the pattern, it should be the Credit-seller’s turn to get struck down, right?’

”Scholar X has decreed that when you two are released, Scholar Credit-seller is to write an IOU to Scholar Feng, to be repaid within one year. The guarantors are myself, this old Daoist, and Scholar X. Therefore, Scholar Credit-seller, from this day forward, Scholar Feng is your creditor.”

”I... I... I... What the fuck?!” The Credit-seller was utterly dumbfounded. ’You can do that?!’
