I Can See Experience Points

Chapter 156: Chapter 155: Who’s There? Mommy

He Xiaotian concentrated and gently tapped the plus sign.

His Experience Points instantly dropped by one hundred thousand, leaving a balance of 62,800.

’Right, last time I’d given the Food King a brutal thrashing.’

The system had judged it as a successful defeat, awarding him thirty thousand Experience Points.

100,000/100,000. A strange power surged from He Xiaotian’s brain, pouring into his eyes.

Unlike the pain of upgrading his martial arts, this was incredibly comfortable. He almost hummed in pleasure.

He could feel his brain working at incredible speed.

Things like mental math were more than twice as fast as usual.

Moreover, when he closed his eyes, he could surprisingly perceive everything within a thirty-meter radius.

When he focused on a specific object within that range, his eyes were like a camera, able to zoom in at will.

It was effortless to count the number of hairs on a fly’s leg.

A moment later, the strange power receded.

He Xiaotian turned his gaze to the Experience Points system in the upper-left corner of his vision and opened the attributes for the ”Secret Dream Observation Achievement Method - Dharma Eye Chapter”.

[”Secret Dream Observation Achievement Method - Dharma Eye Chapter”- 0/250,000 (Godly Skill: Spirit +30, Illusion Technique Resistance +30, Perception +30, Insight +30, Special Attributes - Wisdom Eye +2, Delusion-Breaking +1)]

His Spirit and other attributes had all increased by ten points.

The special attribute, Wisdom Eye, gained one point, and a new attribute, Delusion-Breaking, was added.

’Breaking through illusions?’

It was just that the next level required two hundred fifty thousand Experience Points.

That astronomical figure was truly a bit beyond his imagination.

During the day, everyone in the Divine Void Temple seemed listless.

Daoxuan, who was normally full of energy and prone to flights of fancy, was no exception.

He even seemed distracted while sweeping the floor.

The other disciples were even more cautious.

Even at high noon, they had to go to the restroom in groups.

Going alone was just too terrifying!

Shouyangzi took out his small wooden box, gave each person a high-grade Protective Talisman, and instructed them never to take it off, no matter the time or place.

These Protective Talismans were from his personal supply; the ones that were official Daoist Alliance merchandise remained untouched.

He Xiaotian eyed the old Daoist’s box with envy.

Of course, being a law-abiding citizen, he didn’t try anything.

「At midnight.」

He Xiaotian and Shouyangzi were crouched in the bushes along the only path to the restroom.

The two of them had devised a plan that afternoon.

At twelve o’clock sharp, Daoxuan would appear on the path.

If the thing lurking in the shadows was still hiding within the Divine Void Temple, it would surely appear and attack him.

When that happened, the two of them would pull off a classic ”mantis stalking the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind” gambit.

As for whether Daoxuan was willing?

That wasn’t something He Xiaotian and Shouyangzi needed to consider.

Besides, to ensure his disciple’s safety, the old Daoist had spared no expense.

He had plastered a dozen Vajra Talismans all over Daoxuan. According to Shouyangzi, he could withstand a continuous bombardment from a dozen rocket launchers for at least three minutes.

In the dead of night, Daoxuan’s figure appeared under the moonlight.

He glanced back every three steps, the very picture of extreme caution.

His master had told him not to be afraid; with the Vajra Talismans and Scholar X watching over him, all ghouls and demons were nothing to fear.

But no matter how he heard it, the young Daoist felt that Shouyangzi was just trying to fool him.

THUMP... THUMP...

The sound of his footsteps echoed across the mountaintop. If he didn’t know that X and his master were hiding somewhere nearby, Daoxuan would have already bolted back to his room to hide trembling under his covers.

Meanwhile, near the dormitories, a small figure just over a meter tall appeared in the moonlight.

The creature’s shadow was bizarre; its head was not only large but also exceptionally round.

RUSTLE... RUSTLE... RUSTLE...

The diminutive figure in the darkness made a sound like a terrestrial arthropod skittering along.

The Daoists in the dormitory, not yet asleep, all shivered.

The Divine Void Temple had very few resident Daoists, only a dozen or so.

Because someone had died during the day, all the younger men, aside from the senior Daoists, had squeezed into a single room.

TAP! TAP! TAP!

A light knocking sound echoed, and everyone inside the room froze as if they’d been hit by a paralyzing spell.

They even slowed their breathing.

It was as if they feared that making the slightest sound would bring disaster upon them.

KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!

When no one in the room answered, the thing outside seemed to grow impatient and began to knock rapidly.

GULP!

It was unclear who, but someone couldn’t help but swallow hard.

His mouth was immediately covered by the disciples next to him.

”Mmph! Mmph!”

Just as the men, paralyzed with terror, were at a loss for what to do...

a voice spoke up from within the room.

”Who’s there?”

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Who would have thought that as soon as the question was asked, the knocking would grow even more frantic.

This wasn’t knocking anymore; it was pounding.

Just as the men were on the verge of screaming for help...

a large-headed silhouette suddenly appeared on the window.

?!

The Daoists were like choked roosters, every last one of them frozen in place.

’That thing is definitely not f*cking human!’

’What kind of person has a head that round?’

”Who’s there!”

As this strangled-sounding voice spoke up again, the men glared at each other furiously.

But after a few glances, they saw the exact same look in everyone’s eyes.

”Gulp... Wh-wh... who asked that?”

One of the senior disciples whispered to the younger ones huddled together.

They all shook their heads, indicating it wasn’t them.

”C-co... could it be... we’re... s-s-seeing... a gho...”

Before he could finish, the stuttering disciple had his mouth covered again.

Before anyone could say a word, the voice spoke again.

”How’d you know?”

”AHHHH—!”

At that moment, they all wet their pants.

The group scrambled against the wall for their lives, yanking the blanket back and forth. Each man tried to wrap more of it around himself, desperate for the slightest feeling of safety.

”Who are you? Where are you? Our Temple Master is really strong! I have a Protective Talisman! Stay away from me!”

At this moment, they were truly caught between a rock and a hard place.

”I’m under your bed!”

The voice answered the nearly hysterical Daoists.

”...”

After a brief silence, the room erupted into chaos.

”Holy crap! Run for it!”

The men scrambled off the wooden bed like a gust of wind, rushing for the door.

CREAK!

After flinging the door open, the group saw the thing in the doorway and fell utterly silent.

”Help me!!”

After screaming, they scrambled back into the room.

BOOM!

The wooden bed was suddenly flung into the air, where it ripped apart and shattered into splinters.

Through the wide-open doorway, illuminated by the moonlight...

the Daoists could clearly see a small, skinny figure dressed in ragged clothes.

When the figure lifted its head, a pair of eyes gleaming with red light met their gaze.

And then, they wet themselves again.
