I Can See Experience Points

Chapter 15: Chapter 14: [I’m Not Listening, I’m Not Listening, It’s a Bastard Chanting]

He Xiaotian stretched his limbs, and a series of CRACKLING sounds echoed from his body.

In the past, he would never have even dreamed of being like this.

He got into a track-and-field sprinter’s stance right where he stood. This was the result of a three-day crash course he’d taken for a campus sports meet at Shanghai Medical University.

WHOOSH!

Two craters exploded in the dirt where he’d stood, and his body shot forward like a black bolt of lightning toward the slaughterhouse’s surrounding wall.

As he reached the wall, he bent his knees and shot up over three meters into the air as if he had springs for legs, then flipped over it.

THUD!

The sound of a heavy object landing startled a group of police officers standing guard on the perimeter.

They immediately raised their guns and aimed at the source of the sound, but they didn’t shout.

It seemed they were well-trained.

”Junming, did you hear that?”

”I heard it. It came from inside the slaughterhouse. Report it to the chief first. Don’t make any rash moves; wait for his orders.”

Inside the wall, He Xiaotian looked down at the dense web of cracks beneath his feet and grinned.

’Am I really that heavy?’

’I shattered the concrete!’

”Who’s there?”

He Xiaotian cursed inwardly. He pushed off with his legs, and his figure flashed, disappearing from the spot and hiding behind the nearest building.

PATTER!

The sound of footsteps grew clearer. He Xiaotian’s hearing was excellent now, and he could tell it was two people.

If he wasn’t mistaken, it had to be the man and woman from the special investigation team.

”Senior Zhao, we’ve found something over here.”

”...”

He Xiaotian rolled his eyes. ’I really hope the cracks I made by landing too hard don’t mislead our comrades from the special investigation team.’

’If they screw up because of this, who’s going to take the blame?’

”Got it.”

The man squatted down to inspect the ground.

”This must be from that loud thud just now. The concrete is shattered, but there’s a pair of footprints. Are we not the only ones investigating the slaughterhouse? Is someone else here?” The man frowned and added, ”Whoever it is, they’re powerful. Possibly one of the ’unusual individuals.’ But it’s hard to say if they’re a ’prodigy’ who awakened their own power, or an ’adept’ who relies on external objects. I hope they’re not an enemy, or we’re in for a tough fight tonight.”

”Unusual individuals?” The woman’s eyes lit up when she heard that. ”If they’re not an enemy, we could recommend them to the academy. These are eventful times, and they’re short-handed all over the country.”

”Don’t worry about that for now. The national inspection is coming up soon. All these unusual individuals hiding in the shadows will be found one by one. It’s all the fault of modern novels for portraying the state’s attitude toward mutated humans so darkly.

They don’t use their heads. If it were just one or two people, they might get special treatment. But how many unusual individuals are there in the country now? If something like that happened, would the state really force them to flee and strengthen other countries?

Besides, special cases are breaking out everywhere. Hua Country is in a hurry to recruit them! The Capital City and Shanghai have both opened academies for unusual individuals, specifically to help them develop their abilities.

Just for enrolling, you’re automatically granted the rank of a third-level police superintendent and a monthly stipend of ten thousand. Anything you get from a mission is yours to keep, and the academy gives you an additional reward. Alright, enough of that. Investigating this slaughterhouse is what’s important.

We can only pray this unusual individual is a friend, not a foe! Even if we fail, someone stronger will come to investigate. The safety of the people is our top priority.”

As he finished speaking, the two of them left, their footsteps gradually fading into the distance.

He Xiaotian stepped out from behind the building and flipped his middle finger at the two figures disappearing into the night.

He wasn’t an idiot.

That speech from the man—Zhao—was clearly meant for him.

He knew I was nearby but couldn’t find me right away, plus he was on official business. That’s why he kept hinting that the state has a friendly attitude toward ’you unusual individuals.’

Not only that, but they’d even opened a special academy to help people like him improve their strength.

The benefits were so good they were off the charts. You get a superintendent’s rank and ten thousand a month just for enrolling.

And before leaving, he’d also given a warning.

’Even if we’re enemies, if you dare make a rash move that gets us killed in this slaughterhouse...’

’...the country won’t give up and will hunt you down to the ends of the earth.’

To be honest, those benefits were truly second to none.

It was just a pity he was a Martial Artist who had brute-forced his way up using a massive amount of Experience Points from his system.

Yes, He Xiaotian called himself a Martial Artist.

As for the reason?

It sounded cool!

Setting aside whether the state could detect that he was a ’fake’ unusual individual, joining the academy would definitely land him in a whole mess of trouble.

’They wouldn’t just give you all those benefits for free, right?’

’Even if I managed to get in, is someone going to teach me how to practice martial arts?’

’But the most fundamental thing for me is Experience Points!’

Lying low and developing his strength in secret was the only way to go.

If his old man hadn’t fallen victim to this mess, he never would have risked coming to this bizarre slaughterhouse.

The two who had just left would never have guessed.

That the so-called ’unusual individual’ they were talking about was just a martial arts practitioner with a special opportunity.

Otherwise, their jaws would have dropped in shock.

So all those flirtatious glances they just threw were wasted on a blind bear!

After thinking it over, He Xiaotian followed them.

First, before he got his lucky break, he was just a university student.

As the saying goes, every trade has its master. He definitely couldn’t compare to talent cultivated by a professional academy.

Second, the police must have far more leads than he did.

The only reason he didn’t trust them was that he now possessed power.

’When faced with danger, will the special investigation team really risk their lives?’

Judging others by his own standards, He Xiaotian didn’t think he himself possessed that high a level of dedication.

But the person lying in that hospital bed right now was his own father.

Even if a Demon King from hell was hiding in the slaughterhouse, he would risk his life and charge head-on.

The man and woman stopped in front of the door to the slaughtering floor.

”This is it. According to the readings on this device, the resentful energy inside is very high,” the woman said, holding a device about twice the size of a cell phone.

”Okay, Zhou Yun, take a step back.” Zhao Lei gestured, clearly afraid he might accidentally hit his colleague while breaking down the door.

SQUEAK!

As he spoke, Zhou Yun, one hand holding the device and the other still in a pushing motion, had already opened the door. An atmosphere of awkwardness filled the air.

”Ahem, let’s go in.”

If the situation weren’t so serious, He Xiaotian would have been roaring with laughter.

’The guy hadn’t even had a chance to act cool before the woman ruined it.’

’Seriously, are you two sure you’re here to investigate the case and find the source of the man-biting incident?’

’And not to be a comedy duo performing crosstalk?’

SLAM!

The moment the two of them had filed inside, the great door to the slaughtering floor slammed shut behind them.

And wisps of grayish-white energy began to coil around the entire building.

”OINK, OINK!!” ”OINK, OINK!!”

The sound of pigs oinking rose and fell, echoing endlessly.
