I Can Devour Spirits

They rode back onto the official road, and Liu Shushan couldn’t wait to open the secret letter. As he glanced over it, he saw that he had indeed advanced to the rank of Inner Sect Disciple.

Although the result was expected, Liu Shushan was still overjoyed.

Shen Mizi, on horseback, glanced at Liu Shushan and said in a dull tone, ”Congratulations, Brother Liu!”

Liu Shushan responded joyfully, ”It appears I’ve passed.”

Just as Liu Shushan finished speaking, he immediately noticed Shen Mizi’s dim expression and thus restrained his joy. He saw that Shen Mizi’s secret letter remained unopened.

Liu Shushan wanted to comfort Shen Mizi, but he truly didn’t know how to start once the words reached his mouth. In the end, the two could only continue silently on their journey.

Upon reaching the city gate, Shen Mizi turned her horse around, ready to head back to Yuanyang Prefecture. Even as they bid farewell, Liu Shushan was still stuttering, not knowing what to say, and simply wished her safety!

Shen Mizi rode off resolutely.

Along the way, she hadn’t opened that secret letter.

Regarding this matter, she had already consulted her father, Shen Yanliu. Shen Yanliu used to be an Outer Disciple, and after being released from the sect, he became an official to the rank of Inspector General, so he knew something about the ways of these matters.

She still remembered that at the time, Shen Yanliu told her directly, ”Don’t have hopes for this matter. The sect values a spotless background most of all, especially for an Inner Sect Disciple.”

She realized her father’s direct words were actually to protect her, preventing her from unrealistic hopes and deeper hurt later.

Therefore, as Shen Mizi rode home, she had essentially come to terms with not being able to advance to Inner Sect Disciple.

Some things are fate! You must accept them!

Duan Rong returned Ni Yunlin’s Fisherman’s Village in Autumn to Shen Yanliu, after which they moved out of West Gate Mansion and bought a secluded residence outside, ending their days of relying on others.

Shen Mizi arrived home, tossed the secret letter onto the table, and lay on the bed in a daze.

Shen Yanliu walked over, tore open the secret letter, and looked. His eyes instantly widened as he exclaimed, ”Mizi, come here! You’ve advanced to Inner Sect Disciple!”

”What?! Advanced?!”

Shen Mizi jumped off the bed, rushed over, snatched the secret letter from her father’s hand, glanced over, and was instantly delighted.

Shen Yanliu sat there, with a strange look on his face, saying, ”Your father committed a massacre case, yet you entered the Inner Sect! There’s something fishy about this!”

Shen Mizi calmed down and said, ”Could there be a problem with the secret letter?”

Shen Yanliu responded, ”There’s no problem with the letter. It’s stamped with the Ministry of Justice and Internal History Department seals!”

”The Ministry of Justice?” Suddenly, Shen Mizi’s eyes sparkled.

These secret letters were typically stamped with seals of the Ministry of Justice, the Minister of the Secretariat, and the Internal History Department. But this year, the position of Minister of the Secretariat was vacant, and Mansion Master Wang Maochun took on the review role but didn’t stamp. So, the secret letters only have the Ministry of Justice and Internal History Department seals.

Shen Yanliu noticed Shen Mizi’s expression and asked, ”What’s wrong with the Ministry of Justice?”

Shen Mizi replied, ”Duan Rong went to Divine Cloud Prefecture recently to assist at the Ministry of Justice in investigating the case of Secretariat Minister Zhu Shizhong. And...”

”And what?”

”Moreover, he told me back then that I should have no issue entering the Inner Sect. But at the time, I thought he was just comforting me, so I didn’t pay attention.”

Shen Yanliu, upon hearing this, his eyes shifted deeply. ”It must be him. As long as he found the right person at the Ministry of Justice, it’s just a matter of names. Even if something happens later, it would at most be a question of negligence.”

Shen Mizi said, ”Father, are you saying that Duan Rong found someone to help me enter the Inner Sect?”

Shen Yanliu said, ”That’s the only explanation.”

Shen Mizi looked again at the secret letter in her hand, with a peculiar gleam flashing in her eyes.

Watching Shen Mizi, Shen Yanliu felt a pang in his heart.

Duan Rong’s kindness was truly overwhelming!

He had initially thought that when faced with life and death, he must persuade Shen Mizi not to act recklessly! But given the current situation, Mizi was a stubborn kid; he felt he couldn’t persuade her anymore!

Looking at Mizi’s current expression, Duan Rong’s numerous acts of goodwill probably had thoroughly, deeply captured her heart.

If this girl was set on something, he couldn’t dissuade her!
