I Can Devour Spirits

At this time, it was already five quarters past the hour of Wei, and in three more quarters, it would be the hour of Shen. But overhead, the sun was still high in the sky, unusually scorching, and there wasn’t a breath of wind; even the leaves in the wild were drooping from the heat. Let alone the crowd, who were already soaked from head to toe.

Wang Maochun, Chen Shanmeng, and Ge Hengtai were under a tree’s shade, with servants fanning them with palm fans, but the wind was also hot, and they were drenched in sweat.

Ge Hengtai glanced at the bright sun above and asked, ”Did the old Taoist say it would rain at the hour of Shen?”

Wang Maochun said, ”Yes, he said at the hour of Shen. Don’t worry, there are still three quarters left.”

Duan Rong was not far away. He found a shady place, sat on the ground, and kept wiping the sweat from his forehead.

This kind of weather can make a person lose their temper from the heat.

Many had apparently underestimated the power of this heat tiger; those who originally wanted to watch the excitement were starting to retreat, but the majority still held their ground.

After a while, Ge Hengtai suddenly stared at the secretary with the sun dial not far away and asked, ”What time is it?”

The secretary replied, ”Reporting to you, sir, it just turned the hour of Shen!”

Ge Hengtai jumped up from his chair and said, ”It’s already the hour of Shen, yet it’s still this blazing sun. That old Taoist...”

Before Ge Hengtai could finish his sentence, a sudden wind rose! He could only swallow his words.

As the wind passed, a refreshing coolness permeated!

As the wind rose, dark clouds could be seen surging across the sky!

Zhu Cheng immediately shouted, ”Duan Rong, it’s coming!”

Duan Rong had already stood up. He turned, smiled at Zhu Cheng, and then swiftly leaped out!

In the strong wind, Duan Rong’s figure was as fast as a ghost!

Everyone present felt a jolt in their hearts!

The dark crowd was blocked by soldiers about ten Zhang away from the Wild Lake, but when Duan Rong’s figure flashed into the lake, many sharp-eyed people saw it, and suddenly a burst of noisy clamor erupted among the crowd.

Duan Rong dashed to the center of the lake, with True Qi surging, standing on the lake! Because of the agitation of True Qi, the water around his feet roiled as if it were boiling.

Duan Rong flipped his hand, and a new wooden contraption appeared in his grasp.

He had already tested it several times in the past couple of days to ensure that an electric arc indeed flashed at the needle tip, and nothing would go wrong on the spot.

The contraption clutched in his hand, the wind blew a small wooden windmill attached to it, spinning rapidly.

The windmill drove the wooden handle, rubbing back and forth on the fur inside the hidden compartment.

Duan Rong suddenly leaned over and untied the thread tied to a lotus flower at his feet’s step on the lake surface.

He had already sunk a large rock at the lake bottom to hold the contraption in place.

Duan Rong tied the thread tightly to the contraption.

The contraption was already fixed at the edge of the lake. Although it still moved back and forth, the amplitude was small.

Duan Rong accepted it, flashed his figure, and retreated to two Zhang away from the lake edge.

At the instant he stood still, his Divine Sense suddenly expanded, covering the entire lake surface.

He needed to pay attention to the contraption’s condition at any time.

He had two backups of this thing. If anything happened to the one in the lake, he would immediately replace it.

At this moment, the dark clouds had taken a position over him, the sky suddenly darkened, and the strong wind made the lake surface densely wrinkled; the nearby large tree and his sleeves were clattering loudly in the wind.

Sporadic rain drops as large as beans then began to pound down! Crackling loudly!

The heavy scent of rain started to rise!

Almost without transition, the rain poured down in torrents!

Then, a bolt of lightning, like a white dragon, tore through the oppressive sky!

In just a couple or three breaths, Duan Rong’s hair suddenly stood on end!

In that instant, his body suddenly shot up; only a dark shadow could be seen, like a leaf boat on a river, flying backward in the rain.

He knew it was coming!

”Boom!”

The sound was indescribable, completely different from the rumbling of thunder.

Only a white flash could be seen, like a white dragon, rushing down from the Celestial Mansion, and in that instant, it connected heaven and earth!

The rain seemed nonexistent! Because the light was too bright!

The whole Wild Lake, a dazzling white, like a giant mirror reflecting a blinding light!

In just a fleeting moment, it flashed by!

Silence fell over heaven and earth! The crowd was silent! It was as if nothing had happened!

The sound of pouring rain and the howling wind, as if they hadn’t heard it!

The moment just now, although very brief, seemed to strike their souls, leaving everyone stunned, momentarily petrified...

”The heavenly thunder! It was really brought down!”
