I Can Devour Spirits

Duan Rong’s tone was calm and amiable, but the threat and the deep, sharp gaze still made Yin Cong’s face change slightly.

Yin Cong hesitated for a moment, then smiled and said, ”Don’t worry, junior brother. You see, your senior brother might be a chatterbox, but I know what should be said and what shouldn’t.”

Duan Rong replied, ”I knew you’d understand my difficulties. After all, we need to get along for a long time...”

”Indeed, indeed.” Yin Cong’s gaze towards Duan Rong had changed.

As they crossed the Iron Chain and returned to Shang Xiangyu, the sky had already turned dark.

They arrived at Pan Yong’s cave entrance and handed him the two bags of medicine and Shang Xiangyu’s Star Disc.

Pan Yong stood at the cave entrance, with candles lit inside. The dim candlelight cast a mottled shadow at the mouth of the cave.

Pan Yong took the two medicine bags, weighed them in his hand before putting them at his feet. Then he took out the Star Disc and looked at it under the candlelight. His face instantly changed as he glared at Yin Cong, coldly saying, ”Why did you swipe ten extra points?!”

Yin Cong’s face shifted slightly, stubbornly saying, ”What extra swipe?”

”How not?” Pan Yong’s face was quite unpleasant, saying, ”I made a list last night and calculated it. I told you this morning it was 911 points. Why did you swipe 921 points?”

Pan Yong said this while shaking the Star Disc in his hand.

When Yin Cong heard Pan Yong speak like this, he knew something must have gone wrong between him and Duan Rong. ”I said, I can’t handle this task. Why don’t you arrange Chen Hu and Duan Rong to do it? Why force it on me?”

As Yin Cong spoke, he glanced at Duan Rong beside him. Today at the Medicine Pavilion, although he seemed to be pretending to sleep, his eyes almost never left Duan Rong. He was almost certain that Duan Rong hadn’t secretly kept any medicine during the entire process.

At the Medicine Pavilion counter, the woman reported 921 points. He jolted at that moment, feeling something was wrong, but he wasn’t sure.

Previously, this task was always between Pan Yong and Chen Hu, whether lists or numbers, Chen Hu kept track. It was his first time leading, and the two numbers were quite similar, so he got distracted. Unexpectedly, something really went wrong.

Pan Yong said, ”Chen Hu has his tasks, and you have yours. Junior brother Yin Cong, are you complaining about me saying this?”

Yin Cong said, ”How dare I complain about you, senior brother? If my senior brother doesn’t blame me, I’ll offer incense and pray.”

Pan Yong sighed and said, ”Since there’s a ten-point discrepancy, and you’re responsible for this matter, deduct ten points from you to make it up. Is that all right?”

”As you wish, senior brother!” Yin Cong said this and swept his sleeve as he left.

Duan Rong immediately chased after Yin Cong, following him.

As Duan Rong walked, he asked, ”What are we going to do about the ten-point discrepancy? Senior brother, maybe I took the wrong medicine.”

Yin Cong paused and said, ”It’s okay.”

Duan Rong said, ”Why don’t I take the list to the Medicine Pavilion tomorrow, check the account, and see where it went wrong.”

Yin Cong snorted coldly and said, ”You think you can check just because you want to? You think the people at the Medicine Pavilion are so easy to talk to? Only people from the Judgement and Rectification Department can check accounts at the Medicine Pavilion; others are off-limits.”

”Really?” Duan Rong stood behind Yin Cong, his eyes flickering.

Actually, this ten-point discrepancy was intentionally created by Duan Rong. He deliberately took three extra coins of Silver Star Grass.

The list had three coins of Silver Star Grass, but he took six coins.

He created this discrepancy to seize the opportunity to probe Yin Cong.

Only the Judgement and Rectification Department could check the accounts at the Medicine Pavilion. This was obviously a crucial piece of information.

This meant when Duan Rong secretly exchanged Green Pupil using Shang Xiangyu’s Star Disc, the risk was actually very low.

Unless someone from the Judgement and Rectification Department locked onto Shang Xiangyu or him and checked the accounts they handled at the Medicine Pavilion, otherwise there was no way to discover he had exchanged Green Pupil.
