I Can Devour Spirits

As soon as Duan Rong landed, he heard the faint sound of iron being forged, clanging and clattering from afar...

Duan Rong followed the mountain path towards the source of the sound and soon arrived at a row of caves surrounded by a wooden fence.

At the entrance to the fence, an old man with gray hair was sitting, pretending to be asleep.

Duan Rong gave the old man a shove and handed over his Sect Cloud Scroll, saying he was here to find the new registered disciple Ximen Kankan.

The old man glanced at Duan Rong’s Sect Cloud Scroll and chuckled, saying, ”Oh, that little chubby guy, go ahead.”

Duan Rong stepped inside the fence, sensing from the old man’s demeanor that Ximen Kankan had already made quite a name for himself here.

It’s only been two days.

Duan Rong looked at the row of caves before him, momentarily dazed.

The old man called out from behind him, ”The new one is in the third cave on the east side.”

Duan Rong turned his head to thank the old man and quickly made his way to the third cave on the east side.

At the entrance to the cave, Duan Rong could see deep inside, illuminated bright with the chaotic clanging of iron forging.

Duan Rong walked in and, as he reached the area lit by the fire, saw several figures surrounding the furnace, wielding heavy hammers to pound the blazing red iron blocks.

Among them, a chubby figure bent over, hammering most vigorously...

Duan Rong chuckled and walked over, delivering a kick to that rear.

Duan Rong hadn’t used much force, and Ximen Kankan merely shuddered and steadied himself.

”Who dares to sneak attack me?”

Ximen Kankan turned his head and saw Duan Rong’s face, reddened by firelight, smiling at him.

”Duan Rong!”

”Kankan!”

Duan Rong saw the sweat-soaked, soot-covered Ximen Kankan and suddenly his eyes reddened.

This once fair and chubby fellow had been roasted to a reddish hue in just two days.

Ximen Kankan tossed aside the heavy hammer and, clutching Duan Rong’s arm, led him outside. ”Let’s go out and talk.”

Ximen Kankan led Duan Rong out of the cave, and the two sat on a rock not far from the entrance. Ximen Kankan washed his face with clean water.

Duan Rong looked at Ximen Kankan and said, ”Kankan, how have you been these past two days?”

Ximen Kankan smiled, ”Not bad. Iron forging is quite fun. If Tao Rong were here, maybe he could give me some pointers. His family runs a weapon shop.”

Though Ximen Kankan spoke lightly, Duan Rong still caught a hint of grievance in his eyes.

Duan Rong patted Ximen Kankan’s shoulder and said, ”It’s okay, Kankan. We’ll get through these three years and become advanced Outer Disciples.”

Ximen Kankan gave a bitter smile, ”You’re good at selling dreams.”

Realizing Duan Rong saw through him, Ximen Kankan no longer hid his emotions, drooping his head in dejection, ”I’m not skilled yet. Once I get better in a month or two, I’ll be able to work like the seasoned ones, working one day and resting three days, then it will be easy.”

From Ximen Kankan’s words, Duan Rong knew temporarily taking on tasks with him was out of the question. Ximen Kankan was barely managing to complete even the jobs in the weapon shop.

If Ximen Kankan was in this state, would Xiao Yu manage to endure?

Duan Rong’s expression suddenly changed, and he looked at Ximen Kankan, asking, ”Kankan, do you have a place to recycle old weapons here?”

”Yes,” Ximen Kankan replied, ”There’s a pile of discarded old weapons in the cave over there. Rejects can be reforged...”

”Let’s go, show me,” Duan Rong’s interest piqued, and he stood up.

If there were enough old weapons, then his Devouring Artifact Spirit ability could be put to use.
